If you are a longtime resident of Seattle and you've never heard of this place, I totally don't blame you. Even if you spent four or more years at UW and you never set foot in the East Asia Library, that's completely understandable. The East Asia Library is one of the University's obscure little secrets. Located on the third floor of Gowen Hall in the Quad, this library will more than likely aid in your studies considerably if you study anything pertaining to East Asia.
I was a Chinese minor at UW, and one of my classes sent me on a little trip to this library to read passages from two different books that apparently could only be found here. The library isn't very big, and I was able to locate those two books with ease. The library is pretty empty and quiet for the most part. It consists of a help desk, some computers, some tables, and shelves of books obviously.
The East Asia Library occupies only a single floor of a building, so it's no Odegaard or Suzzallo. It would be better to take your work there if you have more general study to do, but this is definitely a place to check out if you're working on anything related to East Asian culture. They have a ton of books and resources here to guide you, and it's likely that some of these tools will be more difficult to find in other places. read more
