Where to begin? First, thanks to Yelp for allowing me to narrow my decision down! Yelpers have…read moreyet to let me down and THIS is why I automatically use Yelp all the time! To start, I reached out to Chef Bernard based on the Yelp reviews to see if he could prepare a romantic dinner for my husband and I on Sunday, Feb. 15, 2015. He was available and agreed to serve us. From the start, he was very professional and communicated well. He sent me sample menus with options galore. If there was something on the menu that I wanted mixed up a little, he had no objections. My husband is a very 'simple' eater so I wanted to know if the Chef could also prepare something 'simple' like Potato Au Gratin. Whew....he did and it was sooooooo good! He arrived at our home in what I call his mobile kitchen (because he had everything in it that one could imagine), introduced himself to us and got down to business. We had a few small plate items, entree and dessert. He talked to us while he prepared the meals and it simply felt like he was a friend. It did not feel weird or awkward having him in our kitchen at all. It was great! He gave us tips on cooking at he prepared meals and spoke to us more about who he was (in and out of the kitchen). Some of the items we enjoyed were: 1. Pork chimichangas 2. Cajun eggrolls 3. Peking duck rolls 4. Filet (cooked to order) 5. Potato au gratin 6. Broccoli w/cheese 7. Cheese blintzes wi/ a strawberry wine sauce 8. Crab cakes Everything was perfect! He served us well and we could not have asked for a better experience. We are looking forward to more dinner parties with him in our home. If you are looking for a chef to help you make a memorable event, Chef Bernard is your answer. He also prepares weekly meals for you or your family. My husband really enjoyed the food and he is still raving about it. We tried items we typically would never try in a restaurant. We loved it and we are true fans!

The food is farm to table and always arrive in neatly packaged containers every Sunday evening so we have dinners stocked to enjoy the following week. I have had meal services with others before and this is by far the most skilled cooking of farm to table meals. I think it's a good value. One recent review I read was really not fair about "scam". That's just not true but I understand the frustration that led to a misunderstanding. I know the owner/chef was busy and working to try improve their marketing, ordering app, and communications. It's a small business so you just have to contact her directly if there is an issue and she will take care of it. I did that every time and I was patient because I want this good cooking to last to feed my family. Seems like great people. I've spoken to her and met the staff who deliver food to my house. We look forward to ordering each week!

Usually we have Sardi's, which is perfectly fine, but tonight's choice was most def an upgrade. The salmon patties, rice pilaf, and dinner rolls were all DELISH. I wasn't a fan of the kale but that's not a deal breaker ... I still declare #TwoThumbsUp and would absolutely order the rice, salmon patties and dinner rolls for a future event of my own. The flavor of the rice and salmon; the garlic butter spread on the rolls; the unified shape of the salmon patties; the fluffiness of the rice ... all noteworthy. The salmon may have need a bit more binder because they were a little soggy and broke apart too easily during serving buttt that could have just been a hazard of sitting in the serving pan too long. Again, not a deal breaker, just an observation. Unfortunately, my camera didn't eat first this time but please trust me when I say even her presentation was on point. Not sure how many people my school ordered for but there was enough to serve huge portions to all who were there (and, of course, there was a significant amount of attendees who didn't even RSVP). Will definitely personally promote her for a couple of upcoming events. If YOU book Chef April/Reign's Kitchen please tell her you saw it on Yelp and come back to update us!

Knowing that she's a local Washingtonian instantly made me want to support her even more. Chef April is incredibly kind and genuinely passionate about her craft, and rightfully so. Now, let's dive into her food. We hosted a brunch where Chef April prepared shrimp and grits, potatoes, eggs, and waffles. The waffles were like funnel cake; it was absolutely delicious and savory. We didn't even need syrup; they were perfect on their own. But the shrimp and grits... they were incredible! I can't stress enough how amazing they were. I will definitely be booking her again. Don't just walk, run and book her. I'll gladly recommend her to anyone who asks because I believe in quality and taste, and she delivers on both.

What kind of professional chef scopes out your refrigerator to see if you have any orange juice on hand to serve you--orange juice you've already paid HIM to purchase? Let me back up. I hired Chef Giovanni to prepare a birthday brunch for 3 people. Chef Giovanni quoted a price of $75-$100 per head for brunch--depending on menu selections. However, after I selected my items, the price suddenly catapulted to $500! For that price, you'd think the menu selections would include caviar, or truffles, or something other than the chicken w/couscous, crepes, omelets, potatoes, salad, apple tart, banana flambe, orange juice, and coffee we agreed on. When I responded that $500 was entirely over budget for three people, he lowered it to $330--the highest I could go. Should've heeded the red flag when he called the morning of the brunch to ask the time of the brunch. Later, he was professional enough to text to say he'd be late. I didn't see it, but my sister noticed that while preparing our meal, Chef Giovanni used spices from our cabinet and was about to pour our own orange juice into our glasses and serve it to us! However, there wasn't enough juice to go around so he put it back in the fridge. On top of that, we were served buckwheat crepes (instead of regular) and several of the menu items were omitted. Even coffee! With the exception of the delicious banana flambe, the food was overloaded with ginger (not a fan of ginger) and otherwise quite plain and uninspiring. I'd prefer less than average diner food. Chef Giovanni was unwilling to compensate by way of a free dessert or even a single dollar returned. A nice personality does not make up for bad character. Thank goodness another chef (Chef PK of PK's kitchen) saved the weekend celebration with a tasty, well-presented dinner only two days later.

The food was absolutely delicious, with a wide variety of flavorful options that truly pleased the crowd. The presentation and overall setup were beautiful and added an elegant touch to the event. The pricing was very reasonable, and he even offered a wonderful tasting prior to signing the contract, which gave us great confidence in our decision. Dinner was for 25 + people and there was barely enough food for 12. Not that this mattered, as EVERYTHING was inedible and there were no plates, cutlery or napkins provided. I take that back, the store brought $2.00 (price still on) cornbread and $16.00 cake were the ONLY items edible. The Mac and Cheese was dry and bland. I will give them credit for it being both overcooked and undercooked all in the same batch. I'm still trying to make sense of that! The only adjective that even remotely describes this Mac and Cheese is "disrespectful". Like, seriously, the disrespect was 10/10. The chicken was undercooked and bland. How do you make jerk chicken bland and soggy? I'm actually curious. The "blackened" salmon was overcooked yet not blackened, creating another "make it make sense" moment. I immediately spat out the greens. They were undercooked, not under-seasoned but literally "not seasoned". Wait, I take that back too, if you count the dirt and grit as seasoning. They should be ashamed of themselves for ripping people off. Pictures don't lie. The fact that they were sent pictures and still stood behind their product tells you all you need to know. Please, please, PLEASE do not let these people ruin your event and more importantly your special moments and memories. There are so many other respectable and legitimate Black-owned catering companies i.e. Ohhs and Ahhs, Henry's, Hitching Post.

I'll start at the start--from the first email we sent to B. Lin Catering--they were responsive, helpful, and really thoughtful about our questions. That is no small thing, because we threw a lot of questions at them in that first email, and throughout the process, I mean a lot! But every time, Rena worked through our list in a timely way and responded to every single one of our questions with answers that were direct, and helpful. She was not just ready with answers to every question, but happy to provide additional suggestions and information from her experience, and proactive about raising and resolving issues in the plans we suggested we had not considered yet. B. Lin was one of our favorite vendors we worked with--and one of the most essential when it came to actually making the event we dreamed about a reality. From reviewing rental tablecloths and dishware, to suggesting tweaks to our floorplan and timeline, to setting everything out on the big day--and more. They also were crucial to the final clean up, and helping us ensure we got our venue security deposit back! The venue manager actually told us the place " was left in exceptional condition." OH and did I mention we were able to plan with them so effectively we flipped the room ahead of schedule? All night the B. Lin team was like clockwork. (but clockwork that knew how to adjust to the other ups and downs of the day around them!) And that's just about how helpful, detailed, and responsive they were to work with. I know what you're thinking--BUT WHAT ABOUT THE FOOD? The food was delicious. I can't really do it justice so you will just have to try it yourself. My only regret is we couldn't serve everything we sampled, because it was all so delicious! Star players include the buffalo chicken wonton, moneybag dumpling, and pork bao buns which were all HUGE hits during the cocktail hour. For dinner we landed on a stir-fry buffet, because it was not only delicious but gave us a lot of flexibility to for guests with dietary restrictions. I will admit now, my mother was initial skeptical of that we weren't going with the "steak or chicken" plate that was standard. But we knew we wanted something different, and tasty. In the end, she was completely converted by the end of the night. She may have told me how great the dinner was more than anyone else! But seriously, everyone loved the food, everyone! By the end of the night, me and my wife received a LOT of compliments--that really should be directed to B. Lin catering, Rena, and the rest of the team the helped us. So this is my attempt to pass along those many praises, as well as a few of my own. If you need great catering--looking no further!

I had to skip the burrito and fajita bars but the portions were massive and everything looked good.
