This particular Wellcome is conveniently placed down the street from the Causeway Bay MTR, a little further down the street from a ton of buses, and a taxi queue is right outside. Easy to find and open 24 hours a day! 2) Supermarkets have a lot of stuff - Check. This is a very big Wellcome and it indeed, has a lot of stuff. Great one stop shop for all your reasonably priced grocery and prepped food needs, like sushi that goes on discount after 6ish. They've also got a household items section near the back in case the sole falls off your cheap ass shoe at 2AM and you need super glue stat. 3) Supermarkets are efficient - NO. NOT CHECK. How is it that at 6pm on a weekday, when the amount of shoppers is at an all time high, half the counters are closed? And how is it that the cashiers can see lines stretching almost all the way to the back, and they're still scanning items at the most leisurely pace possible? HOW IS IT THAT I CAN SPEND 2 MINS PICKING OUT MY DISCOUNT SUSHI AND 40 MINS IN LINE TO PAY FOR IT. I have never NOT had to wait at least 20 mins in line at this location. Word of advice, never buy anything that can melt for it will melt while you're in line. Warning: social rant ahead. Hong Kong, being the country with the worst income gap in the developed world, pays workers like cashiers absolute shit. It is highly unfortunate. I do not blame the old ladies working the register for their chill attitude in such a shitty job that pays shitty wages. I might do the same. I BLAME CAPITALISM. The salad bar is still the best option here and is one of the few places in the area where you can get a salad. The supermarket overall is quite good. Pricing is on the high side but it has a good selection of produce, meat, seafood and international products. The alcohol, chocolate, and snacks section has really expanded since the remodel.

Their logo is hunter green & white and I can rely on finding a good variety of food labels I am seeking. I would say the brand is consistent. Maybe because I am American, this store and this Market Place by Jason's brand appeals to me. I think Market Place by Jason's and Wellcome might be in the same corporate family believe it or not (as most grocery chains are really globed together under the same umbrella in the world like this), but clearly Market Place by Jason's is there upscale brand in the family compared to Wellcome. Their layout and their marketing are completely different. Anyway, Wellcome's are not my favorite, but Market Place by Jason's are good by me. Located at the base of a large apartment complex, this might be the best international grocery option available in that are with brands like Nestle, Coke and organics.
