Mix stuffed paratha which had stuffed potatoes, paneer and cauliflower with spices

Nice place to stop by on the freeway from LA to Bay Area. Food is super fresh. Has authentic Indian taste from the north. Not too spicy. Has veg options too. Place doesn't smell of strong Indian food. Service is quick and good. We ordered the mix parathas to be on a safe side and it was super tasty. Comes with a side of butter and pickle. We also got their plain yogurt and chilled mango lassi to beat the LA heat. Very refreshing. Would strongly recommend this place to anyone on the move.. it's priced good too

This Indian Restaurant, Taste of India at 20687 Tracy Ave, Buttonwillow, CA 93206, has been around for years. I use to stop here and enjoy really great meals here. A little disclaimer-you either like Indian food or you don't. I love this type of good quality, properly prepared food. It's been years, but I decided to enjoy dinner here. The restaurant was recently remolded with wood dividers at the tables (see picture). Everything, including the ceiling, had a fresh coat of paint. Really nice looking! My server, a man of my age with white hair, could not have any nicer. He told me about the history of this place and it was family run. I had the Onion Kulchar (thin and delicious), special rice, and Butter Chicken. Honestly, one of the best meals I've had. The portions were generous and fairly priced. There was also an area that sold various items such as bells, drum, food items, laundry detergent, ice cream to portable stoves. These were items a person traveling may want, or for cultural needs. I was really impressed with this business model of this restaurant. When in Buttonwillow, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Taste of India.

Must try spot if you are passing by. Try out the mango lassi a cool mango yogurt drink.

First time here while staying overnight to visit the racetrack. Majority of the customers here were Indian, which a a good sign. There's not many other choices in Buttonwillow other than American or Mexican food anyways. So I'm not sure if the folks that stop by are locals or just passerbys looking for Indian food. Ordered: - Butter Chicken - Egg Bhurji (Indian spiced scrambled eggs) - Naan (Indian flatbread) All of the dishes, I recommend, especially the egg dish. The butter chicken was highly food colored and extra buttery, but that's typical since you are at a street food style spot. The naan was stretchy and doughy. All this came to be $37 which seems slightly steep for Central Valley but it is what it is. Be prepared to wait a long time for your order to be taken as well as for your food to arrive. I'd come here if you've got some time to spare. I ordered to go and it still took 45 minutes - 1 hour after ordering for the food to be ready. We were also grabbing food for a friend that ordered ahead... That too took the same amount of time and they ordered 30 minutes before us. Granted, it was a Friday night at 9pm on Memorial Day weekend, so I'm not sure how it is on other Friday nights. They take cash or card. Overall, I'd come back but would order much earlier in advance. Follow for more food recs on social @thefoodhigh "High on Food. High on Life." -thefoodhigh

When traveling from the Bay Area to So Cal, I always stop in Buttonwillow for lunch. I love Indian food but it seemed so odd to see it in this Central Valley location. Finally today, I decided to stop as Yelpers seem to like the place. It's very casual, interior nothing special but VERY CLEAN. Service was fast. Food decent! Chicken Biryani and garlic naan both good. Huge portions so I took half with me. Luckily I travel with an ice chest!

Scooby after his (happy) meal at Taste of India

We stopped here on the way from Joshua Tree back to the Bay Area. A large building and parking lot beckon you to give it a try. As you enter the serene space, once your eyes adjust to the low lighting, it's surprisingly large and well taken care of inside, with mostly booth tables and an informal service-counter, souvenirs from India, and deli case (with desserts and ice creams) across the dining room from the front door. We had good hearty Indian food served by warm-hearted older gentlemen taking care of us AND our grateful dog, Scooby. He was treated to plain "tiki" cuts of fire-grilled chicken. They said they always reserve a tucked away corner booth for those traveling with dogs to use, because it's simply too hot outside for our furry compan. The overall vibe is more upscale cafeteria than fine dining, but quality and pride of service abounds. Thank you Madu.

Butter Chicken, Malai Kofta and Roti, Naan

We stopped here on our way to the Bay area. This was our second time here. The food was good, it wasn't great but I also didn't hate it. I had Malai Kofta, which was good. My husband had Butter Chicken. Garlic Naan was good however Tandoori Roti was very dry. They also have khaats for Punjabi Dhaba style seating. The place is unnecessarily dark, very few lights in the evening. And definitely needs to be cleaned up more. The plates weren't very clean. A couple of tables were just full of used plates that hadn't been cleaned after customers. They don't serve water, you have to buy bottles from them.

Today it was my second visit to this restaurant. The service was excellent as they were very fast and as I was with my 4 year old they calmly listened to my instructions for my kids food. The ambience was nice and quiet as there were very little crowd, as this restaurant is located on i5 at Buttonwillow, CA. On my first visit my experience on my food was not that excellent as I ordered biryani and they were biy oily and very spicy with tons of spices in it. As me being an Indian can tell this was not actually a biryani. Today I came here again and ordered chicken tikka masala and it was truly delicious. The flavor was mild and really enjoyed and my 4 year old also liked it. Roti with chicken tikka masala goes well with each other and the onion salad was not in the menu we requested to serve us as without onion salad it will look and taste incomplete. The restaurant was very clean even the restroom was nice and clean. They also have a small counter near the billing area where you can find many essential things like a blanket, toothpaste soap some India munchies etc. The restaurant was very spacious from inside more than 60 people can dine together. They also have free WiFi and few parking spaces.

A perfect stop for lunch!! The food was so delicious and the older gentleman who helped us was delightful! My husband and I ordered the veggie samosas, garlic naan, butter chicken, and bhaigan bharta. All were wonderful. We ended with unsweetened chai. Will definitely stop again if we can!

How do I get owner contact?

I would just call or visit the restaurant.

What language do the staff speak? We think Punjabi, but we don't wish to offend by choosing the wrong language if we need to translate something on our phone.

Given that the restaurant is located in central CA, the servers and owner do speak English and the menu is written in English. They do also speak Hindi and Punjabi if you know those languages, though.

Does this place serve halal meat?

    Yes

We ordered chole bhature, shahi paneer, butter naan, pani poori, and samosa chaat. The bhature were incredibly soft, almost like a pillow. The butter naan was amazing, dripping with rich butter that tasted almost homemade. The shahi paneer was flavorful and paired perfectly with the naan. The drinks were just as good. The mango lassi tasted fresh and natural, without that artificial pulp flavor you sometimes get. The chaas was also refreshing and balanced. The staff were very friendly and helpful. If you are not familiar with the menu, they are happy to guide you and suggest dishes. Overall, we loved the place and will definitely be back for more. Highly recommend.

The chef needs to give the butter on the side or open the butter out of its pack otherwise it's super unhygienic!

I read some of the reviews and they weren't glowing. However I couldn't see the name of the food truck and we pulled up. There were 2 guys from the UK and they said it is outstanding so we decided to stop. Oh man it was worth it. We ordered the vegetable samosas, 2 orders of garlic naan and the chicken tikka masala. The vegetable samosas was delicious. Light and crispy dough and the garbanzo beans and peas were perfectly seasoned on the inside. The mint chutney was delicious and not very minty. The tamarind sauce was ok, on the watery side. The garlic naan was soft and warm with a hint of garlic it went perfectly with the chicken tikka masala which was a medium spicy level. The heat sneaks up on you, it was so yummy we will stop again on our way back to San Diego. The cook was super nice and told me the Chicken tikka was dry (which i didn't realize and I'm glad he told me, otherwise I wouldn't have had the sauce to be soaked up the garlic naan which was so good. I think i could have just eaten the sauce and the naan; it was that delicious.)

My family doesn't like to try foods that aren't typical American foods. But I do. I was actually on my way to the Poké spot but decided on Indian instead because I hardly ever eat it and I love a good curry. With it being the day after Christmas, I wasn't sure what the crowds would be like. But I was one of 4 tables that were seated at the 12:30 lunch time. The space is open, so voices kind of travel but it isn't bad with so few customers. They play upbeat Indian music but it's nice, maybe you could compare it to jazz. The volume could be lowered just a little. The lighting is dim, and the room is cool. You could dress up a little and have a date here or come casual. They have a section of the seating area blocked off by curtains, maybe an area to reserve for bigger parties or to open up when its a busy evening. I ordered the Aloo Tikki Chat (Spiced potato patties fried and served with chickpeas) and the Chicken Makhani (Clay oven-baked boneless chicken cooked in rich tomato butter cream sauce) both with medium spice level. The Aloo Tikki Chat was so good! The chickpeas were nice and soft. Great flavors all around. It's like a party in my mouth! It is an appetizer and its a good size. Definitely can be shared with several people. The spice level is just right for me. The Chicken Makhani is a lot more mild with the flavor palate. A nice smooth tomato based sauce. I don't pick up the spicy heat with it at all, which is fine. The chicken. Is nicely cooked as well. This would be a good starter meal for someone new to Indian food. For the entrees, I got a medium spice Lamb Tikka Masala and Mild spice Chicken Makhani with garlic naan. It came with a bowl of rice and wow!
