I stopped to get gas and found an Indian restaurant inside the Chevron station. I normally would steer clear, but hey, you never know. The women running and cooking the joint seemed nice, once you can get through the heavy accent. After seeing and smelling what they were cooking over the stove, I rolled the dice on the cauliflower Paratha and a vegetable samosa. There's no seating inside, but there are tables outside to the left. The Paratha came with a white yogurt dip and the combination left my tastebuds bewildered. I wasn't sure what to make of it. The samosa on the other hand, tasted like what a samosa should taste like. In general, it was good, but wasn't great when you consider the price. So, it turns out to be a 3 star ok kinda lunch moment.

It feels like a family run food stall. The lady was nice and explained the menu. It's very random and surprising that it's in a gas station. Great prices too. I wish they had a meat Somosa but the one I got was still delicious

Lamb biryani. Use the yogurt sauce too

From a periodic indian food eater, this was a surprising hidden gem we stumbled on. 4.5 stars. The strong attractive smells are hard to miss when pulling up to get gas. So we had to try the food. The lamb biryani was packed with flavors!! Very satisfying at each bite. How authentic, I didn't care, but just seeing the cooks ethnicity I figured it was pretty solid (and it was). I almost didn't take the yogurt sauce on the side, but the guy convinced me to "just try a bite, and decide to add some" which ended up being right. Even though the spice level was medium, the yogurt sauce adds more, so try it out One minor critique: watch out for pieces of whole spices mixed in. Guess they missed some. You might get a small crunch and bomb of pure herb/spice.

Was driving up from SoCal to the Bay Area. I missed my regular rest/break exit and took the next one. To my pleasant surprise, found this Indian (Punjabi) gas station store. They have a section inside the store where the sell freshly cooked food. The specials for the day included "Rajmah Chawal" (Kidney bean curry and Rice). So we had to order that :) Also got some freshly fried samosas. The Rajmah Chawal was very delicious and had a nice flavor of "ghee" (clarified butter). The samosas were nice and crunchy on the outside and the stuffing was tasty. I gobbled one without even dipping it in the chutney. This store looked like a family run business and all the people were very friendly. Now I have a new spot to stop for gas and food between SoCal and the Bay! P.S: They saw my 3 year old with me and gave a complimentary sweet (gulab jamun) :)

We were on the way home from San Diego when my 7 year old needed to go to the restroom. We took an exit... there were two gas stations... one on he right and one on the left.. we decided to turn left. We saw the sign for Indian food. We usually avoid Indian restaurants in US because none of them are the authentic kind. But we were hungry and didn't want to do fast-food. So we decided to give it a try. The lady behind the counter was making the rotis right there! I asked for somethings off the menu, they were really nice and said they can make it but we didn't want to wait so we got dal makhni, mixed veggie, and 2 of the freshly made rotis. The lassis were freshly made, too. There were two picnic tables outside where we sat to eat... and omg! THE BEST AUTHENTIC HOME COOKED INDIAN FOOD we've had in US. We had to get two more rotis! The universe conspired to introduce us to this place. Had our kid not needed to use the restroom at that exact time...had we made the right turn instead of left... had we found some other restaurant, we would have never known of this little hidden gem!

New favorite vegetarian-friendly spot to eat on the 5, especially since we try to avoid fast food and would rather support family-run establishments. It's just north of the Grapevine in a gas station. Very homemade style - you can watch them make the rotis fresh to order behind the counter. We've tried their dal, saag paneer, rice, rotis, samosas, and mango lassi. The quality & flavor compared to many sit down Indian restaurants in the Bay Area. The outdoor seating area is not great but it's fine to eat quick and there's a shady grassy spot nearby that's nice for our dog. Also I wish they would post their prices on their menu board. But in general the food is delicious!

Enjoyed home cooked chole, samosa, roti, and chai tea. The food was warmed hot and it really did taste like home. I would come here again.

Older gentleman and he was great. Very attentive and nice. The decor and atmosphere were authentic Indian and it felt nice being there. Now the food. I had salad, Garlic Naan, Rice and Cheese Masala. The salad, rice and Naan were really good. However, the Cheese Masala was friggin superb. So much flavor packed in that little bowl. Was worth every penny I paid. I very highly recommend this place.

The parking lot out front was packed, which briefly gave the illusion that this place was popular. Turns out it's just an employee parking lot cleverly disguised as a restaurant. Inside? Completely empty. We were seated and immediately put under pressure by an older gentleman who handed us menus and then stood there staring, apparently afraid we might run off with them. Asking for a few minutes to decide was met with silent judgment and continued hovering. When we ordered, we clearly said we didn't want rice -- which, of course, was added to our order anyway. Apparently "no" is just a suggestion here. For drinks, we asked for tap water and were told there was none, as if plumbing hasn't been invented yet. Bottled water was the only option, which we later learned came with a surprise charge. Transparency is clearly not on the menu. The food was... fine. Not bad, not memorable, and definitely not worth the price. I've had better Indian food at Bay Area buffets where you pay a fraction of the cost and don't get bullied into ordering extras. The real shock came with the bill: nearly $100 for three dishes and water. Yes, water. Between the empty dining room, pushy service, unwanted add-ons, and wildly inflated prices, this place manages to turn a simple lunch stop into an overpriced lesson in disappointment. We won't be back -- but at least now we know where all the staff park.

We ordered chole bhature, shahi paneer, butter naan, pani poori, and samosa chaat. The bhature were incredibly soft, almost like a pillow. The butter naan was amazing, dripping with rich butter that tasted almost homemade. The shahi paneer was flavorful and paired perfectly with the naan. The drinks were just as good. The mango lassi tasted fresh and natural, without that artificial pulp flavor you sometimes get. The chaas was also refreshing and balanced. The staff were very friendly and helpful. If you are not familiar with the menu, they are happy to guide you and suggest dishes. Overall, we loved the place and will definitely be back for more. Highly recommend.

The chef needs to give the butter on the side or open the butter out of its pack otherwise it's super unhygienic!

Greeted with a warm welcome as we walked in, you could tell this family run restaurant wants you to enjoy their cuisine. They were very accommodating towards my mom and sister in regard to spice levels and patiently explained the dishes they weren't familiar with. We started off with complimentary spiced papadums and a trio of chutneys. My mom loves lamb so she selected the curry and enjoyed the flavor and tenderness. I like paneer so I got it as tikka masala. It was a tad too sweet for my preference but I still enjoyed it. My sister never tried chicken jalfrezi and was told it's actually a spicy dish. They modified it for her capsaicin averse tastebuds and she was very happy with her pick. Yellow lentils, veggie samosas, basmati rice and garlic naan rounded off our dinner. Bakersfield has a lot of Indian restaurants to choose from, so I hope they have longevity and success. When we drive through Bakersfield, we will make sure to patronize Samosa Junction again!

My family doesn't like to try foods that aren't typical American foods. But I do. I was actually on my way to the Poké spot but decided on Indian instead because I hardly ever eat it and I love a good curry. With it being the day after Christmas, I wasn't sure what the crowds would be like. But I was one of 4 tables that were seated at the 12:30 lunch time. The space is open, so voices kind of travel but it isn't bad with so few customers. They play upbeat Indian music but it's nice, maybe you could compare it to jazz. The volume could be lowered just a little. The lighting is dim, and the room is cool. You could dress up a little and have a date here or come casual. They have a section of the seating area blocked off by curtains, maybe an area to reserve for bigger parties or to open up when its a busy evening. I ordered the Aloo Tikki Chat (Spiced potato patties fried and served with chickpeas) and the Chicken Makhani (Clay oven-baked boneless chicken cooked in rich tomato butter cream sauce) both with medium spice level. The Aloo Tikki Chat was so good! The chickpeas were nice and soft. Great flavors all around. It's like a party in my mouth! It is an appetizer and its a good size. Definitely can be shared with several people. The spice level is just right for me. The Chicken Makhani is a lot more mild with the flavor palate. A nice smooth tomato based sauce. I don't pick up the spicy heat with it at all, which is fine. The chicken. Is nicely cooked as well. This would be a good starter meal for someone new to Indian food. Overall, I give Viceroy Indian Cuisine a thumbs up!

Like I said, we never had Indian food so our server helped us pick an appetizer which was the Chicken 65. It was amazing! It was flavorful and the chicken was so tender. For the entrees, I got a medium spice Lamb Tikka Masala and Mild spice Chicken Makhani with garlic naan. It came with a bowl of rice and wow! They both were so creamy and had their own unique flavors. I recommend those two , especially the chicken makhani. Medium spice does have a kick to it, so if you don't like spice I suggest mild. Overall, 10/10!

But be warned-- their drinks come in cans and if it's super hot, you may need to order more than one, lol. I impressed my company by not needing to drink much during my spicy meal, and yes this is a casual heat tolerance brag, I'm sorry! Anyway, the service is really wonderful even if the communication can be a little rusty because I'm a basic monolingual bish. They just want you to enjoy your food and your time with them, so don't be shy and ask questions if you're unsure about something you're ordering. They have vegan and vegetarian options. I've only gone with meat eaters and they have not been disappointed. This is one of the best restaurants in Bakersfield and I'm worried people are totally asleep at the wheel on this one. They deserve your support, they're family run and worthy of your time and money! Other awesome things to try: dal, any breads, egg rolls, any green curry.
