My friend and I did a private wine tour and both state it was the best we've ever been on. I have…read moredone wine tours in other areas of Italy, as well as in France, Croatia, Greece, and many areas of the US... none compare to the personable experience had with Stefano. He picked us up from the train station as predetermined and immediately started sharing information and points of interest on our drive to visit the town of Barolo. We toured the town, learned knowledge, he took our photos when wanted (hey we are women living in the age of Instagram), and bought us coffees and a bite to start the day. We visited 2 wineries in Barolo (as I requested when booking), with lunch in between at a restaurant with a stunning view and delicious food (cost not included in tour fee). The 2 wineries we visited were great, first a more modern family owned one and second a more homely own one. At both, Stefano and the winery owners gave us knowledge on the wines, the area, and food pairings. Stefano was very easy to speak with and it was fun asking his opinion on Italian and wine culture, etc.. as well as sharing ours. It was like spending the afternoon with a knowledgeable funny friend. I was insistent on not visiting a Babaresco winery as I am a HUGE Barolo fan but Stefano insisted we should try one if there is time (and luckily there was). We visited a winery owned by two sweet older men and tried over 10 wines there and sat chatting. I will forever remember this experience and 100% credit it to our wonderful guide. To know: The guide picked the wineries and restaurant based on the price point we wanted since that was an additional cost. Everything else was included in price (pickup/drop off, wine tasting at all wineries and snacks too). We visited: Pira, Cantina Stroppiana, and Grasso and also tasted (at additional fee) a tasting of Gaja wine at a shop while visiting the town of Barolo. In addition to the wineries we saw many sites and learned a lot of history not only about wine but the area. 100% recommend!

Sara picked us up from our hotel at 10am with a smile we'd quickly discover was contagious and a passion for the Piedmont region (her home) that only a local could bring. We took a short drive to her friend Frenanda's for the cooking portion of the tour. The quaint neighborhood in the hills, the cozy kitchen and the warmth of our host could best be described as stepping into "Nonna's kitchen". Using all fresh, local ingredients we made: - Hazelnut "Kiss cookies" - Veggie flan - prepped and slow cooked beef with veggies in wine - Chocolate stuffed peaches - ate a variety of seasonal cheeses and honey - and made pasta from scratch (meat stuffed raviolis). Everything was paired with delicious wines which we sipped while learning the local history, including the origins of Nutella, Fiat and Eataly, as well as the farming community that shaped the culture of the region. We at and drank to our hearts desire before saying our goodbye with full stomachs and a goodie bag for later. For our wine portion of the tour, Sara drove us to meet a young, local winemaker named Luca. Luca's enthusiasm for sustainable growing and using "smart techniques" to make his wine brought an unexpected but delightful new-age wine-making vibe to his whole operation. "We have a brain, we have science, we use it." And all the latest advancements in "cork technology"... who knew?... Luca did. Our personal wine tasting went through every variety of wine the Nebbiolo grapes of the region had to offer. The Barolo was our favorite! A very fun, stomach filling day with Sara came complete with great vibes, local stories, and memories we'll never forget!

My husband, two friends and I spend a long-weekend in Piedmont this fall and this tour was…read moredefinitely the highlight of our trip. We booked a private all-day wine and truffle tour and we were simply blown away. First, the Piedmont region is one of the most beautiful in all of Italy with its steep rolling hills and views of the snow-covered Alps in the distance. The tradition of the white-truffle festival in Alba is something that any gourmet simply must experience at least once in the their life and the Nebbiolo and Barbara wines of the regions are beyond compare. We met Robert in the small town of Neive around 9:30am and he drove us through Barbaresco to Barolo over the course of the day. We stopped for tastings, amazing view points, and a wonderful lunch that was prepared by Leslie. During lunch, Robert taught us the "Art of Sabrage" or the opening of a sparkling wine bottle with a sword. My friend Emily really enjoyed that and Robert got a great video of it. Speaking of video and photography, Robert is also a semi-professional photographer and he taught us a great deal about techniques for capturing the best shots with our SLRs. The afternoon included an actual truffle hunt complete with a truffle dog. The day ended with an amazing aperitivo with the locals from Neive including tastings of sparkling wines, barbaras and Barbarescos. We were also introduced to several producers of the wines we were drinking (including their families). This really was an experience beyond compare and when we return to Piedmont we will absolutely be giving Robert and Leslie a call

Bianco Luigi Gigi - Azienda Agricola Gigi Bianco rocks

"Passionated high quality winemaker in Barbaresco"…read more I am glad to provide travelers with a review about Azienda Agricola Gigi Bianco since I do believe it represents magnificently the spirit of Italian wine entrepreneurs as well as the identity of the local terroir. Besides being surrounded by fence-free wineyards, Barbaresco is plenty of expert winemakers who enthusiastically open their cellar to visitors. Among them, there is Azienda Agricola Gigi Bianco where I had a unique experience for the following reasons. Firstly, the high quality of the wine. The grapes are very ancient as well as organically treated. Moreover, to offer wine lovers the original flavour of Barbaresco, the wine is aged in big casks which enhance the feature of the terroir without altering it. Secondly, the family's welcoming approach. When inside, indeed, it won't take too long to realise how glorious your testing wine experience will be. Maria Vittoria, Susanna and Salvatore (respectively mother, daughter and boyfriend of the latter) have cruised me through the Barbaresco enology traditions, pouring wine and sharing their business roots. We tested 10 different bottles, from the classic Dolcetto D'Alba to the awarded Barbaresco, and all of them were remarkable (even if the former is not my favourite variety of grapes). Finally, the price which is competitive for the quality you get. Personally, I bought a magnum of Barbaresco Ocello 2012 for 58€. To sum up, visiting wine cellars in Piemonte, especially in Barbaresco, is definitely a "do" and stopping at Azienda Agricola Gigi Bianco would give you a proper bite of passionate Italian winemakers.

We were in the area with a guide tasting some wine and it's was time for lunch. They've got a beautiful Terrace overlooking the Vineyards with a great view. To start we enjoyed a plate of wonderful burrata with delightfully shaved Parma ham. We each chose a pasta for our main course-me the thin spaghetti with rich and flavorful meat sauce and my wife ordered the tiny hand-pinched pasta in butter with a generous shaving of black truffle. Both were delicious. The star of the meal was the setting on a beautiful Terrace overlooking the vineyards. It was very special. Recommended

We order a local wine which we had tasted only an hour earlier. We were a table of five and three of us ordered there three course menu and others order only two courses. The staff could not figure out that they should have kept the menue in the same order for everyone, first the appetisers, followed by thesecond course then main. What happened was they brought the appetiser for three and the second course for others which through off the schedule and appeared to have significantly delayed one main for one of us. In short the main course showed up so late two people had to leave the table because they were being eaten by mosquitoes while two of us had two wait for their main. If the poor serves was not bad enough when a second bottle of the local wine was requested they only then informed us they did not have another bottle. One would have thought that with a table of five guest they would have informed the table when they brought us the first bottle that they did not have any more in stock and that if we planned to have two bottle we may want to make another selection. When I raised my concern with the service, late service of the main for the final two guest with the manager she simply did not want to hear the issues and proceed my credit card with no remorse. We will never return to the restaurant and I will be more than happy to post about the poor attitude of the manager. The other issues would have been forgiven but the managers attitude and lack of apology simple cant be overlooked.
