We had the pleasure of staying at the Calissano September 6-10, 2018. We're so glad we stayed here as our base while touring the Piedmont region. It more than met our needs.
After looking at reviews and pictures of the rooms, we decided to spend the money and go for a suite. We're so glad we did. It was well worth the money.
Getting there-We drove from MXP. The drive took approximately 2 hours and thanks to our navigation on our phones, had no issues. Arrived around 1 pm, we were able to promptly check in. Free underground parking an added plus. The location is within walking distance to the city center.
Rosa Suite- Top floor (7th)- I recall there being only 3 suits on the floor. The real treat is the sprawling outdoor terrace. What a treat to come back from wine tasting each day and soak up the amazing views and sunset. The suite has a sitting room when you enter with a couch, coffee table and chairs, desk, and sliding doors to the patio. Decent size TV with several channels and English - however our new favorite Italian cooking channel is Alice! A mini bar is also available. Bathroom has a nice size soaker tub, separate shower (excellent shower pressure), vanity with double sinks, plenty of toiletries replenished daily, bath robes and slippers. Plenty of storage/closet space in the hallway.
Separate bedroom-king size bed, wall mounted TV and another sliding door that leads out to the terrace. The bed was firm and very comfortable. No issues with housekeeping.
Breakfast included in rate, located on the floor below the reception/lobby. Decent - Pastries, scrambled eggs, meat and cheese, cereal, juice, fruit. Not the best offerings, but something for everyone. You can also order espresso if you can locate a server. There is a restaurant for dinner. We did not go.
Bar-Nice quaint bar located adjacent to the lobby. Drink/wine prices are very reasonable. You can also purchase bottles of wine - Several to choose from. Complimentary snacks in the evening were very nice. We brought our drinks back to our room to enjoy on the terrace. They were kind enough to put our drinks on a tray for us to carry and even put together some snacks for us to take with us. Excellent service and greatly appreciated.
All the staff we encountered is very nice and professional. The front desk provided assistance securing a reservation for a winery.
Some feedback/opportunities:
-No in room tea or coffee making accommodations - This as a first, especially in a suite.
-Complimentary daily water - When we arrived and every day when we returned from our day trips, there was a silver platter of 2 bottles of water on the table with drinking glasses. No note saying that there was a charge. To us, we assumed they were complimentary as so many other properties do. When we checked out, we were charged for the water. Not a big deal, but it could have been more transparent.
Management - you have such a lovely lobby/bar area with tons of sitting areas. Would have loved to sit and relax, but the lighting is too bright, in fact it's sterile like a hospital. No ambiance whatsoever. Please dim your lights, at least in the evening.
We were very satisfied with our stay, and would return on a future visit to this beautiful region. read more
