Well since the last review the table count has crept to 9 or 10, with the guy cooking in front of you plus a young waiter. It's stil BYO, which is a plus.
Food was half good, half disappointing. Choices from a blackboard we selected included pork and veal meatballs, grilled eggplant with cheese, garlic mushrooms (all good). Then came the chilli potatoes with what seemed like cayenne pepper or chilli powder through the tomato sauce rather than fresh chilli, salt and pepper squid which seemed to be covered in an indian style spice, perhaps cumin, and the saffron prawns which were like tempura prawns on a rich aioli. The last three dishes were not tasty, and in some cases almost inedible.
Dessert redeemed the night somewhat, with three scoops of gelato for $9. They had wacky flavours including sangria, which really tasted like frozen sangria. Maybe it was.
Bill came to around $80, would have been a reasonable price for authentic spanish food but a little pricey with indian spices and the like. read more
