    Cookies!!!!

All week my friend had been craving a butter tart. As a Yelper and foodie it was my mission to find her a legitimate place to satisfy this craving. I found Tartistry on a list and I'm glad I took us there. This shop is a cute little place in Etobicoke; I can't believe how many times I've passed by it. Nonetheless, their specialty is tarts! The cherry on top was that everything is Gluten Free which was great for me, they also had vegan options and other delicious sweet and savoury treats too tall to list! My friend was satisfied and the woman, Ana was a pleasure to meet. Will be visiting here again for all my gluten free, cookie and tart needs!

    Walnut butter tart

Kept seeing butter tarts so finally bit the bullet here since I had heard that the ones here are especially good. At $4, this was a bit more than other places but I think it's probably justified given all the options to choose from and how well they're made. We got the walnut one and I thoroughly enjoyed that. It's also bigger than it looks!

Assorted Butter Tarts! (Distillery District Location)

We first had Tartistry butter tarts from their kiosk at the Distillery District. They were so delicious we decided to hit their HQ before heading back to the US. The main store is a cafe with a few tables available for patrons who want to enjoy their treat(s) onsite. I arrived about ten minutes before closing time and was surprised to find a three person band playing some live jazz music. The place is low key with a focus on the product. The staff members I've encountered at both locations are super friendly which makes the experience that much better. I'd like to open up their first U.S. location if they ever decided to branch out! For now make your way to their Etobicoke cafe or Distillery District locations. Highly recommended! Enjoy!

This place truly has the BEST tarts in all of Toronto. I have been blown away by this shop and the absolutely exquisite selection of tarts available. The gluten-free options are beyond magnificent. I am told that the bakery does use flour on some days, but that they never have issues with cross-contamination because they don't use flour on the same days that they bake anything gluten-free. It is not often that I am able to find gluten-free desserts that are filled with flavour, don't fall apart, and don't have strange consistencies. I can confidently say that these tarts did not taste "gluten-free" and that I was pleasantly surprised. I tried the butter tart and the raspberry tart. I simply can't pick a favourite. They were both delicious and filled with a flavourful filling. The filling manages to be both rich and light at the same time. I will have to go back and try the various other flavours available. I hear you can call ahead and have a chocolate peanut butter tart (which is calling my name)! The cafe is very quaint and charming. The service is phenomenal. I would highly recommend this shop for a nice tea and tart. I will be coming back soon.

    Lemon curd is beyond spectacular

These are excellent tarts! I bought a dozen. Some flavours I liked more than others! Example. I loved the coconut, peanut butter and chocolate, raspberry, regular. Lemon curd was the best I have ever eaten anywhere. Roasted almond and white chocolate good too. They were spectacular! I didn't love the blueberry as much, even though I loved the raspberry! I do realize that this makes no sense! Definitely check them out. Yes they're expensive at $3 each. But worth it.

This was a somewhat odd find. Looking to pick up a dessert for guests on the trip back from Costco this place's name popped up. Decided to give it a try. The place has a very kitschy setup right from the display window as once I walked in there was a LIVE jazz band playing. There was an odd placement of tables as it was difficult even to get to cashier (maybe a weekend thing). They have quite a few options with a gluten free option to boot as well. I also saw some whole crumble pies on offer if you are planning to entertain a crowd. Decided to go with a a variety of tart options to try a few flavors. The lemon tart was just being filled so had to have those. Picked up a couple of coconut, blueberry and maple pecan. The lemon tart was decent with a lot of buttery goodness. Blueberry was average IMO. The coconut version which I didn't try was quite a hit (especially for a guest who can have only lactose free dessert) The guests were wowed, I was OK. So if you are into this type of tarts I would recommend a visit. 3 Star for moi with a half star thrown in for being a crowd pleaser. I will revisit to try the pie crumble for a larger group.

A six pack of tarts to take home. This packaging design is well thought out. No tarts will get squished or slide around!

Having never tried Butter Tarts, my (Canadian! Gasp!) boyfriend and I stopped in to see what they were all about. The shop is cute, with a cozy tea room vibe. There was quite a selection! Numerous flavors of sweet Butter Tarts along with some savory options (quiche, steak and ale pie, chicken tourtiere, etc. - all in the same single serving size as the Butter Tarts), and a variety of baked goods like brownies, turtle bars, and muffins. I believe there was at least one soup on the menu as well. You get a price break for buying multiple tarts (sweet or savory) after 6 pieces, and again at 12 pieces (I believe). We went with a 6 pack to share. Their packaging is really great for take-out! It keeps the tarts separate, so nothing gets squished. We were advised to refrigerate the savory tarts if we weren't going to be eating them that evening, but to keep the sweet tarts out on the counter. (And that they would last approximately 1 week.) I tried... the plain, coconut, and lemon Butter Tarts, sampling them over 2 days. The plain was good. The texture inside was unlike anything I'd ever eaten before, but not overly sweet or cloying. The coconut was delicious! I liked it more than the plain, although now that I have had a regular Butter Tart I would not turn one down if someone offered me one. ;) The coconut flavor was not overpowering, nor was it that fake too-sweet coconut taste that you get in a lot of coconut sweets. It was perfect! The lemon was my personal favorite. I had it for breakfast with a cup of coffee. The filling was silky, and managed to be both delicately flavored and rich at the same time. A+!

I visited Tartistry Saturday afternoon. Oh boy, I'm not sure what I expected but I was extremely surprised upon entering. One way to sum up this cafe is quaint. They have a live jazz on Saturday afternoons. They have placemats!! How many cafes have you visited that have PLACEMATS! My boyfriend and I were the only 20-somethings there. Everyone was so old. I feel like I stepped into a time portal that transported me back to the 1950s. I ordered the bluberry tart and it was delicious. The boyfriend first ordered the lemon tart but the person in front of us took the last one. Instead he settled with the maple walnut tart. It was also delicious. The service was excellent and the staff are extremely friendly. I highly recommend this cafe. Just don't expect a conventional Starbucks/Tims/Second Cup cafe. It's nothing like that.

I have never been a big fan of tarts; they always seemed boring and nut-filled to me (I'm allergic). But their smores tart converted me; the fruit ones were also safe and yummy! The shop is a mixture of cafe and antique/knick-knack shop. It is as if your grandma put all of her cherished belongings on the wall - the kitsch and mismatching is a perfect setting! The owner is also a sweetheart. I think they are closed Sundays, which is unfortunate for a tea place.

So the bear itself in the affogato was a solid icy chunk of milk (coz we chose the milk flavour) that just frozen. We added the affogato on top of it and while it looked aesthetic, the dessert didn't make sense at all. We were unable to break the frozen chunk or be able to mix it with the coffee and the coffee mixed with that frozen chunk submerged tasted really bad. Paying $16 for that wasn't worth it at all. The bingsu was good though. We got the mango bingsu bowl and it came loaded with mangoes and a marshmallow and an oreo cookie to make it look pretty! I don't think I'd come back to try anything else here. Was a little disappointed.

When I saw the price was $9.90 per chocolate, I was honestly a little surprised, bc it's sold under 7 per chocolate in Korea. But they were running a promotion until the 15th -- 5 for $30 -- which made it much more reasonable. I've never had the original version sold in Korea, so I can't compare it directly, but from what I've seen and heard, it seems pretty similar to what's trending there. Korean reviews are overwhelmingly positive, and people say it tastes just like the viral version. The texture is definitely chewy, just like the name suggests, and it's very sweet. Personally, it was a bit too sweet for my taste, but that's just my preference. That being said, I gave some as gifts and they absolutely loved it. So if you enjoy rich, sweet desserts -- or you're looking for something trendy and fun to share -- this would be a great choice. The shop itself is small and cozy, but very welcoming. The staff were friendly and made the experience pleasant. Overall, even though it's not exactly my personal favorite flavor-wise, I can understand the hype. It's a fun treat to try at least once, especially if you've been curious about the viral Korean Dubai chocolate trend. I'd recommend stopping by and taking advantage of the promo while it lasts!
