All week my friend had been craving a butter tart. As a Yelper and foodie it was my mission to find her a legitimate place to satisfy this craving. I found Tartistry on a list and I'm glad I took us there. This shop is a cute little place in Etobicoke; I can't believe how many times I've passed by it. Nonetheless, their specialty is tarts! The cherry on top was that everything is Gluten Free which was great for me, they also had vegan options and other delicious sweet and savoury treats too tall to list! My friend was satisfied and the woman, Ana was a pleasure to meet. Will be visiting here again for all my gluten free, cookie and tart needs!

    Walnut butter tart

Kept seeing butter tarts so finally bit the bullet here since I had heard that the ones here are especially good. At $4, this was a bit more than other places but I think it's probably justified given all the options to choose from and how well they're made. We got the walnut one and I thoroughly enjoyed that. It's also bigger than it looks!

Assorted Butter Tarts! (Distillery District Location)

We first had Tartistry butter tarts from their kiosk at the Distillery District. They were so delicious we decided to hit their HQ before heading back to the US. The main store is a cafe with a few tables available for patrons who want to enjoy their treat(s) onsite. I arrived about ten minutes before closing time and was surprised to find a three person band playing some live jazz music. The place is low key with a focus on the product. The staff members I've encountered at both locations are super friendly which makes the experience that much better. I'd like to open up their first U.S. location if they ever decided to branch out! For now make your way to their Etobicoke cafe or Distillery District locations. Highly recommended! Enjoy!

This place truly has the BEST tarts in all of Toronto. I have been blown away by this shop and the absolutely exquisite selection of tarts available. The gluten-free options are beyond magnificent. I am told that the bakery does use flour on some days, but that they never have issues with cross-contamination because they don't use flour on the same days that they bake anything gluten-free. It is not often that I am able to find gluten-free desserts that are filled with flavour, don't fall apart, and don't have strange consistencies. I can confidently say that these tarts did not taste "gluten-free" and that I was pleasantly surprised. I tried the butter tart and the raspberry tart. I simply can't pick a favourite. They were both delicious and filled with a flavourful filling. The filling manages to be both rich and light at the same time. I will have to go back and try the various other flavours available. I hear you can call ahead and have a chocolate peanut butter tart (which is calling my name)! The cafe is very quaint and charming. The service is phenomenal. I would highly recommend this shop for a nice tea and tart. I will be coming back soon.

    Lemon curd is beyond spectacular

These are excellent tarts! I bought a dozen. Some flavours I liked more than others! Example. I loved the coconut, peanut butter and chocolate, raspberry, regular. Lemon curd was the best I have ever eaten anywhere. Roasted almond and white chocolate good too. They were spectacular! I didn't love the blueberry as much, even though I loved the raspberry! I do realize that this makes no sense! Definitely check them out. Yes they're expensive at $3 each. But worth it.

This was a somewhat odd find. Looking to pick up a dessert for guests on the trip back from Costco this place's name popped up. Decided to give it a try. The place has a very kitschy setup right from the display window as once I walked in there was a LIVE jazz band playing. There was an odd placement of tables as it was difficult even to get to cashier (maybe a weekend thing). They have quite a few options with a gluten free option to boot as well. I also saw some whole crumble pies on offer if you are planning to entertain a crowd. Decided to go with a a variety of tart options to try a few flavors. The lemon tart was just being filled so had to have those. Picked up a couple of coconut, blueberry and maple pecan. The lemon tart was decent with a lot of buttery goodness. Blueberry was average IMO. The coconut version which I didn't try was quite a hit (especially for a guest who can have only lactose free dessert) The guests were wowed, I was OK. So if you are into this type of tarts I would recommend a visit. 3 Star for moi with a half star thrown in for being a crowd pleaser. I will revisit to try the pie crumble for a larger group.

A six pack of tarts to take home. This packaging design is well thought out. No tarts will get squished or slide around!

Having never tried Butter Tarts, my (Canadian! Gasp!) boyfriend and I stopped in to see what they were all about. The shop is cute, with a cozy tea room vibe. There was quite a selection! Numerous flavors of sweet Butter Tarts along with some savory options (quiche, steak and ale pie, chicken tourtiere, etc. - all in the same single serving size as the Butter Tarts), and a variety of baked goods like brownies, turtle bars, and muffins. I believe there was at least one soup on the menu as well. You get a price break for buying multiple tarts (sweet or savory) after 6 pieces, and again at 12 pieces (I believe). We went with a 6 pack to share. Their packaging is really great for take-out! It keeps the tarts separate, so nothing gets squished. We were advised to refrigerate the savory tarts if we weren't going to be eating them that evening, but to keep the sweet tarts out on the counter. (And that they would last approximately 1 week.) I tried... the plain, coconut, and lemon Butter Tarts, sampling them over 2 days. The plain was good. The texture inside was unlike anything I'd ever eaten before, but not overly sweet or cloying. The coconut was delicious! I liked it more than the plain, although now that I have had a regular Butter Tart I would not turn one down if someone offered me one. ;) The coconut flavor was not overpowering, nor was it that fake too-sweet coconut taste that you get in a lot of coconut sweets. It was perfect! The lemon was my personal favorite. I had it for breakfast with a cup of coffee. The filling was silky, and managed to be both delicately flavored and rich at the same time. A+!

If you like your sweets very rich and...sweet, the tarts definitely embody that. Each one is about $3 and you can choose from a variety. I got blueberry, raspberry and pecan. The first two tasted like it, and wasn't as heavy. The pecan was very buttery.. So if you're into that, you'll love it. The place sells odds and ends and does high tea. But not many tables. Pretty pricey, but if you have a sweet tooth I'd say give it a try. They take all forms of payment.

I visited Tartistry Saturday afternoon. Oh boy, I'm not sure what I expected but I was extremely surprised upon entering. One way to sum up this cafe is quaint. They have a live jazz on Saturday afternoons. They have placemats!! How many cafes have you visited that have PLACEMATS! My boyfriend and I were the only 20-somethings there. Everyone was so old. I feel like I stepped into a time portal that transported me back to the 1950s. I ordered the bluberry tart and it was delicious. The boyfriend first ordered the lemon tart but the person in front of us took the last one. Instead he settled with the maple walnut tart. It was also delicious. The service was excellent and the staff are extremely friendly. I highly recommend this cafe. Just don't expect a conventional Starbucks/Tims/Second Cup cafe. It's nothing like that.

Parking is pretty limited, but if you arrive early enough, you can usually find street parking in the surrounding neighbourhood. Despite how busy it was, the service was incredibly quick. There seemed to be plenty of staff working together to keep orders moving efficiently. One bonus that I absolutely loved is that they carry Nutella and Orzo imported from Italy. It's nice knowing I don't have to fly to Italy every time I want to pick some up! Can't wait to come back and work my way through the rest of the menu.

The ham croquettes were delicious and paired with an amazing garlic aioli. The grilled chorizo was also great but the garlic aioli muted the chorizo taste unfortunately. For our main course, we ordered the seafood paella which was amazing and everything was cooked perfectly. We also enjoyed the mango cheesecake and lemon sorbet for dessert. The restaurant is tightly packed, intimate, and has a great atmosphere for a date night dinner or dinner with friends. The waiters were attentive and very helpful when ordered. However, I got pulled into the planning details as a consultant, especially when it came down to finding a place to eat. I'm glad that they consulted me. I really should charge a fee... haha! My manager originally said that we should go to The Keg. I immediately shot that suggestion down because our vegetarians on our team would be miserable eating salad and bread. We needed a more inclusive eatery for lunch. We were doing pottery painting at Crock a Doodle. While one of my peers was setting things up with this store, the staffer suggested dining at 850 Degrees Pizzeria, which was across the street. I looked at the menu. The wood-fired pizzas looked incredible. It also had gluten-free and vegetarian options. Perfect! My friend and I had parked on a side street. Our manager parked behind us. We walked over to this eatery together. It's free parking on a side street. You can park on Lake Shore Boulevard, but it's paid parking until 6 pm. We were the first folks to arrive at noon. We had a reservation and got a long table for the ten of us. I had looked at the menu before coming here. I knew what pizza I'd be ordering. I also ordered an appetizer to share with others. I got the following items: - Shiny peach cider - Meatballs with garlic bread - Oh, Canada pizza My Shiny peach cider came out. I got a glass with ice. I poured my drink into the glass. The peach flavour was subtle. It tasted watered down. My friend to my right got the Shiny apple cider. She let me have a sip. It was yummy. I should have got that flavour instead. My meatballs with garlic bread came out next. OMG! This appetizer was incredible. The meatballs were beef. They were juicy. It was effortless cutting through them. You can also get vegan meatballs that are a mixture of chickpeas and mushrooms. The sauce was bright and fresh. The garlic bread was really pizza bread with garlic and butter on it. It was excellent dipping it into the sauce and eating it with the meatballs. I shared them with my manager and friend across from me. They loved them, too. Whenever I see a cracked egg on a pizza, I have to order it. So, I got the Oh, Canada. I love that each pizza has a Canadian-related backstory to its name. As a hockey fan, it was nice seeing Lord Stanley as a pizza. Oh, Canada had maple bacon, egg, fior di latte cheese, and tomato sauce. This pizza was excellent. The maple bacon was wonderful. It has a smokiness with the maple flavour. My egg was runny when I sliced through it. It was excellent with the tomato sauce. I highly recommend getting it if you love maple bacon and a runny egg. It felt like breakfast on a pizza. The crust had pillowy, chewy edges and was crispy underneath. Depending on the type of pizza, the base can be soggy because it's thin. I had a slice of my friend's Group of Seven pizza, which was a bit soggy. My Oh, Canada was fine. The Group of Seven pizza had goat cheese, tomatoes, spinach, roasted red peppers, olives, parmesan cheese, and fior di latte cheese. Maybe it got soggy because it had more cheese and toppings than my pizza. My manager got the Grand River pizza. It's essentially a wild, fancy version of a meat lover's pizza. It had spicy Calabrese salami, local ham, wild boar sausage, Niagara prosciutto, fior di latte cheese, and tomato sauce. I got to enjoy a slice. It had a spicy kick to it from the salami that was delightful. I loved the sausage that didn't taste gamey. The prosciutto looked like pretty ribbons on the pizza that were delicious, with a smokey subtle taste to them. Yum! You can get dairy-free cheese on request. Some of my colleagues opted for pasta. The beef ravioli and pappadelle di funghi looked fantastic. I need to return to get one or both of these dishes. They loved their food. I used the washroom before we left this eatery to do pottery painting. The women's washroom was clean. The downside was that the mirror was mounted rather low. I saw my midsection only through the mirror. If you're shorter, you'll be fine seeing your reflection without doing a squat. I thanked the man making all these pizzas in the kitchen. The pizzas were delicious. He appreciated the kind words. He worked so hard to get our pizzas to us in a timely manner and did it seamlessly. I had an excellent experience. You can order online and do takeout. I will need to remember to do that next time I'm in the office. I'll swing by and grab dinner here. (348)

I was specifically searching for gluten-free desserts and came across Holy Cannoli Shells and Cream. The last time I had a gluten-free cannoli was in Rome, and unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment. So, when I placed my order, I was praying this experience would be different. Since I wasn't sure which flavors were gluten-free (or which ones tasted best), I went with the assorted box. When the order arrived, I took my first bite--and wow. Absolutely delicious! I tried the vanilla and chocolate flavors, and before I knew it, my cousin had devoured most of them. The next day, only three were left: vanilla, chocolate, and pistachio. My uncle took the pistachio, my mom claimed the chocolate, and I enjoyed the last vanilla one. Of course, I had to order more--why not, right? But when I tried again on DoorDash, it showed they were closed. So, I waited and placed another order the next night. This time, I made sure to grab the pistachio one first--and wow, I was missing out! It was incredible. Later, I found out that all their fillings are gluten-free and made with real ricotta cheese, which explains why they taste so authentic and fresh. When the second box arrived, I noticed a card on top. To my surprise, it was a sweet, handwritten note addressed to me. That personal touch meant so much! Now, I have to visit in person before I head back to the States on Sunday--to say thank you and grab two more boxes to take home! I didn't have very high expectations because sometimes desserts don't travel well, but I was actually so surprised. I made a mistake while ordering, so I called the store and the girls who answered were super helpful and really nice about it. They fixed everything for me with no problem and made it so easy.

The restuarant also serves, burgers, hot dogs, pizza, poutine, and sandwiches if you're looking for something more savoury.  I ordered the Karak Chai, and MyTreat (croffle, topped with cheesecke bites, graham crumbs, strawberry coulis, and white chocolate sauce, with a side of vanilla ice cream).  The chai latte was a nice compliment to the dessert.  The croffle was enjoyable, but the ice cream wasn't to my liking. It tasted low quality and a bit artificial in my opinion.  The portions were huge, and one order can be shared between two people. My partner and I ordered one dessert each and couldn't finish our shares, but we were still a bit full from dinner. The Etobicoke location has a bright airy feel, with plenty of seating, great for both large and small groups. The staff here were also welcoming, and efficient.
