TARPACKERS is a fun place to eat. My wife is from Red Springs, NC (just a couple towns over from St. Paul), and for years I had been hearing about this wonderful restaurant owned by a husband and wife who both love their college sports. As the name suggests, the husband is a NCSU fan, and the wife is a UNC fan. I don't like either, but it's still a fun little place. When we walked in, we were greeted by the owner (the State fan), and we immediately asked where the ECU section was. The locals who filled the restaurant really get into the spirit of things as well. We saw an awful lot of Wolfpack Red and Carolina Blue (and even one patron with an ECU sweater on...aaarrggghhhhh!). They have a really great menu, filled with traditional southern fare, as well as pastas, steaks and fish. I had the Salmon with Mango Salsa and my wife had the lasagna (which I have heard her go on and on about for years). The salmon was a little over-cooked, but it did have a great flavor. As for her lasagna, it was really good. They also have a nice selection of local wines from Stevens Vineyards in Lumberton, which they allowed us to sample. The real kicker for me was that the wait staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Our two (yes, two) waitresses spent a great deal of time at our table, and made sure that we had everything we needed. TARPACKERS will definitely be on my must-visit list the next time we are back in Red Springs visiting family.

Baby back ribs. Not worth it.

We went to this place on our way to Virginia from I-95. The place was cute and the services was excellent. Friendly people. The food wasn't bad, but it also wasn't excellent. It's good enough for a quick stop on the road.

Someone had sat in this earlier and broke it.

Tarpackers has great home cooked southern style meals. I love their porkchops and fried chicken is amazing and seasoned to perfection!!!

Just a few miles off I-95 in a funny little downtown. Great Southern hospitality and cooking.

Just a so-so stop on our way south. Burgers a bit dry. Staff very friendly. Bathroom could use an overhaul.

We were the only ones in the restaurant, but they were doing a pretty good take out business. If you eat inside, First you will be served an extremely watery salsa lacking in taste. Our server did not tell us about the salsa bar in the back, (but we knew about it thanks to the Yelp reviews). We tried to eat the tasteless watery salsa and I was ready to walk out the door. Then we hit the bar in the back and mixed it with the watery sauce and absolutely delicious. There are so many different flavors to combine and make your own. The food is good for the area. We visit every few months and I would definitely visit again.

You know the food is legit when the server keeps falling back into Spanish while speaking to you! It's an easy stop when driving I-95, like we were. It's in a cozy little town just off the interstate exit. CHIPS AND SALSA (SALSA BAR) Good chips/salsa is key to good Mexican restaurant. The chips were good and warm, but I found the standard salsa served table-side to be a bit bland. I then discovered they have a SALSA BAR!!! So many good options. I didn't get the name but they had a creamy version of the green verde salsa that had perfect heat for me (medium) with some garlic kick (at least that is what I think it was). Highly recommend!!! QUESO We ordered some queso for the chips and it was good. It didn't have any spice. In my opinion it could have been improved with just a little pepper seasoning. CHILIS POBLANO Best I have ever had! Traditional cheese-stuffed rellenos peppers topped with mole sauce!!! If you don't know, mole is a savory chocolate sauce (not sugary dessert sauce). This combination is so dang good!!! CHORIZO TACOS Chorizo sausage is a staple in Mexican food. These tacos showed it off very well! The dish came with a small roasted onion (super savory) as well as a roasted jalapeño which wasn't super spicy, and made for nice seasoning when cut up. I would come back in a heartbeat!

The Cary location vibe is elegant without being intimidating and less cramped than the Chicago restaurant. The service was impeccable. Our server, Reid provided helpful recommendations and gave us feedback on our choices. His knowledge of the menu was clearly thorough. We tried the "knuckle sandwich", the roadside smash, and the rigatoni and meatballs - all of which were outstanding. At Reid's suggestion we paired the burger and lobster sandwich with the crispy jalapeños side - so good. We rounded out the meal with a hazy ipa and a cider, both local and delicious. All in all, a fantastic dinner.

The staff is consistently friendly, the food is always great, and the space is clean, lively, and welcoming. It works just as well for families and date nights as it does for friend gatherings or corporate dinners, whether it's a large group or just a few of us out for an offsite meal. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The appetizers are all solid, and I'm fairly certain I've taken down an entire guacamole plate on my own before. The Caesar salad is a favorite, and I usually choose between one of their steaks, which has never disappointed. We've also dined with people who have dietary restrictions including gluten-free and vegetarian needs, and the kitchen has always been accommodating. The atmosphere is fun and energetic, and parking has always been easy and convenient, which is a big plus when you're coming in with a group. One small, constructive note from earlier visits is that a couple of servers were newer and less comfortable with wine recommendations. This is completely understandable and didn't detract from the experience, but having a quick backup or simple pairing guidance could make business dinners even smoother. On our most recent visit, I arrived late and the group had already ordered wine, and the selections were excellent. The food was outstanding, the service was seamless, and everything came together beautifully. Overall, Doc B's continues to be a reliable, enjoyable spot with great food, a welcoming vibe, and strong service. I always look forward to coming back when I'm in town, and if you're ever on the fence, don't hesitate. It's absolutely worth the visit.

They have a large parking lot with numbered spots, so you don't forget where you parked. The decor is casual and unassuming. It is a large place, though. It can seat 220 guests and has both booths and tables. I dined here for brunch, but you order from the all-day menu. I read to go early to avoid a wait. Service was friendly, but the goal seemed to be to turn the tables quickly, so many customers left with to-go boxes. Well, I was on the road, so I couldn't go, so they had to wait for me to finish. I ordered the flounder with a baked potato, and it came with hush puppies. The food was really good, and I would have ordered dessert too, but I wasn't asked or even finished with my meal when the bill was dropped off. I liked my food, and the prices were reasonable. I don't like feeling rushed, though and like to enjoy my meal. Payment is taken at the front register. I paid cash because I wasn't sure whether they took credit cards, since that register was closed. By the time I got through the line and got change for the tip, people were already seated at my table. So I had to find my waitress to leave my tip. I might return again when it is less busy.
