I tried this Target again, and unfortunately it is still dealing with the same problems it had last year, namely a large transient population that comes in and causes trouble. When I stopped in someone was ranting at the security guard; someone else was standing outside the store on the street screaming and insulting anyone walking by. It feels decidedly unsafe. Even worse, since their Broadway entrance/exit seems to be permanently locked, you have to leave through the parking lot, where a lot of these folks seem to congregate. I really wish Target would do a better job of working with the city to make this location safer and easier to visit. read more

I am only giving this store 3 stars, but it isn't their fault. There is a homeless situation in this area and shopping makes it a bit uneasy. Most items are locked up, due to theft here and at other stores in Santa Monica, which is sad. Again, it is not the fault of Target. They are doing their best to keep shopping safe for customers. I like their house brand, Up and UP too. I compared prices at other stores, like CVS and Target's are cheaper. This store is a small shop so I suggest you download the Target app to see if the item you are looking for is IN STOCK. Most often the things I want are in stock but not always. This Target has a CVS pharmacy inside. I have picked up my Rxes here on occasion. The staff here are very friendly! This is not my usual CVS pharmacy, but when my CVS pharmacy doesn't have my meds, I am directed to this one inside Target. There is a very small parking lot adjacent to the store entrance. read more

March & April 2024/Santa Monica: I love Target! It's a fun one stop shop! I was in search for a spectacular Mother's Day card, snack gifts for a friend, as well as for myself, & a few beauty products! Atmosphere: Friendly, welcoming, well-stocked & organized! I once had a fun conversation about a clothing item w/a knowledgeable employee in the clothing section & friendly conversation in the snack aisle with an employee in the aisle w/trail mix! Discovered: I was excited to discover via YELP that Target was so close to 3rd St., Promenade, only a short block away! I also discovered a few snacks to try, as well as new scented products! Security: I've been to this location three times and two times were incredibly amazing and the third time was a little questionable at first, and I almost turned around and walked out... a guy near the carts was mumbling profanities, as well as a guy sitting on the floor, stretched out across one of the aisles, sitting up against the shelves...eventually, security arrived & all was well! Overall: I would easily visit this location again, especially with the ease of security being nearby! read more

I have to say, as far as Targets go, this one is probably my least favorite, but it is extremely convenient to where I live. Some times when I come in the experience is decent (usually in the morning / day), and other times I have to dodge between a homeless person who is lost wandering the store aisles. Some times there's security and some times not, but I do feel somewhat better when security is around. I've purposefully waited on writing a review earlier because each time I come into the store send to flip flop the previous experience. Lots of product is locked up, which I'm not sure how I feel about. At first I thought items were locked up due to the DTSM location, but I've been to a Target in Encino where a bunch of stuff was also locked up, too. Maybe it's a change from all that has happened with COVID, but sometimes a person quickly responds to help open the cage and other times it takes a few tries. When I first moved to the area and started shopping here there was no organization to how people lined up for the self-check out versus cashiers line. Now they have a sign at one end of the check out area so it's a little better, but I think some people still get confused. And sometimes people enter the check out from the other end (where there is no sign), either unaware or don't care to get in line at the correct end. Some of the cashiers you can tell don't really care. They are there to bag up your stuff and keep it moving, which I get. It's a Target of all places, but I've bought alcohol here and the guy was not interested in checking ID, which is always required regardless of how old or young someone may look. When I came back another time, a different guy was much more engaged and did request to see ID so it seems to be a missed bag. I walked in at 7:25 for an exchange for two T shirts for a Barbie toy. I said hello to the lady and she ignored me and just stared at me. I asked her if I can do the exchange she just said she is going to put it on the gift card so then she is checking me out I go to pay and she is like " I haven't event scanned the gift card " u know how u tell a rich kid no and they throw a tantrum it sounded something like that so I said " oh " but luckily it didn't finalize so then she asked for my receipt I ignored her and walked away my sister happened to look at it and it was rolling its eyes at me. Although this is a city target, it's quite big and spacious. I normally go to the one on 16&Wilshire but this one is bigger. I found everything I needed and then more. Everything is organized and the store is clean and neat. Nice and attentive employees. Parking - they have a small parking lot where you can park for free. You can also park by the parking meters on the street. Overall great experience and I'll be back for sure! read more

This is my least favorite target ever. Seems like everything is locked behind glass and no-one responds to the call button. Time I could have spent looking around was spent just standing there waiting for someone to come (and then when no-one comes wandering around looking for someone). Even things that are less than $6 are behind glass. I will never go back. read more

Watch out for a $80 parking ticket after 45 minutes in the target parking lot. My family recently moved to Santa Monica, and we had a lot to buy, including the necessities of life. We shopped for about an hour. I found my parking ticket in front of the windshield. It was a $80 parking ticket. We were very disappointed with Target's parking policy. In addition, we were disappointed about the store manager Eric's customer service. He didn't care about our request. He said Target was not involved in this ticket. If there is a problem with this ticket, the parking company and the Target shopper will have to deal with it. Target must create clear parking signs for the Target customers. Current parking signs are misleading their target customers. There is a parking sign at the entrance and no warning sign for a $80 parking ticket. There's a "Target Guest Parking" sign in bold, and "45 Minutes Free" is very small text. read more

HORRIBLE!!! Who decided to put a target in the middle of the city of Santa Monica as small as a two bedroom apartment!!! They have nothing every time I go. Not even a simple drink. Very cute little store, all the workers seem very nice and extremely helpful, except for one cashier. An older woman at the registers, I had a terrible experience with her, or I suppose without her. Her name was Anita, or something like that. I heard the other cashiers call her that when they asked for her help while she ignored them. I was completely ignored by her while I was waiting in line and the other cashiers were busy helping other customers, running around to self checkout where people needed help, and taking bags and items out of the store into the parking lot. She had to have seen me in line, she looked straight at me. She completely ignored me and everyone else in line. I was being helped next to an empty register and, well I guess one of her friends was in the line, because she called him by name and she started helping him out right there, immediately. She then spent the next ten minutes or so talking to him. I was around the cashiers desk for a while, as I had a lot of items and my daughter and her friends were also in line and getting checked out, they wanted to buy everything by themselves, so I saw the whole thing. She made customers who had already been directed by someone else to set their items down, pick everything up and move it to her register, without even offering help. I mean, what kind of service is that? She was standing less than 2 feet away, and all of the other cashiers were moving back and forth from different registers, so obviously there's not an issue with that in the rules. It came across rude, disrespectful, and lazy, quite honestly. I'm new to reviews, I just made this account after trying and failing to use my friends account, instead. I feel odd leaving any review, much less a negative one, but I felt so bad. The other workers seemed overwhelmed while she did absolutely nothing. I worked as a cashier for years, and working with people like her made me feel like I was working two peoples jobs. Now I don't know how target works behind the scenes, but I can't imagine moving a couple candy boxes around takes forefront over helping real, living, paying customers. If you are ever shopping at this target, avoid Anita with the long grey hair. The store is lovely otherwise, I was helped by an extremely nice and helpful manager at one point who called another manager when they couldn't answer my question fast enough. It was very hands on and customer first approach, which I appreciated. Not many places have the managers face to face with customers without asking. Whoever the young man was that was working the self checkout today at 8:30pm, thank you so much for being a gentleman and providing me thoughtful customer service. What I didn't appreciate was the fact that I just got off of work, went to the shampoo section for my wash day, and was blatantly being followed by your security team. Even after the kind associate helped me with my purchase before he went to help another guest at self check out, your security guard was CONVENIENTLY standing in front of me on the opposite side of your impulse area and we made eye contact. I should of continued with the boycott that's going on with Target. Perhaps next time your security team can greet your guests and observe with more discretion because he was selective as to who he wanted to follow around. While walking towards the front door I heard a woman associate yell "Did she pay?" As I walked out the front door. So hurtful and disgusting from your motley crew of associates. Went in today to purchase my daughter's graduation party supplies. Although it is a smaller, busier, space, I found that I still had an enjoyable experience. When you're ready to check out, go ahead and search for Alan. He was very helpful and showed my wife and I an overwhelming amount of kindness. Not my favorite target. It's in the city so it's a fairly smaller Target and of course being in downtown Santa Monica it's filled with homeless people loitering. The worst part is, I tend to avoid going into the store by using curbside and mostly every time they mess up my curbside order by either forgetting to put everything I ordered in or giving me the wrong thing. So many unpleasantries as described with other fellow Yelp Reviewers and they are NOT LYING! They have no carts or hand baskets so you must carry everything with your hands. I enjoy using my Target Red Card but I do not enjoy shopping at my local Target. I went to my CVS pharmacy in your 5th and Broadway store in Santa Monica to pick up my prescriptions. I needed a jar of Ponds cold cream so I looked it up on the website. I found that the 5th and Broadway store carried Ponds cold cream on Aisle B5. So I looked for Aisle B5 when I got to the store but could not find it. One employee said it was near the pharmacy. Wrong!! I found another nice Target employee who took me around the store looking. He found Aisle B5 but it was not marked. A lot of the aisles are not marked. This is not very helpful to shoppers. Luckily in an unmarked space we found the Ponds Cold Cream. Why have you not marked your aisles. I walked around the whole store looking. Also, why is it impossible to find a cart in your store? Update on previous review. Make matters worse. I opened the product to find one of two items missing, and case a little scuffed. Went to closer Target to return it and at first they weren't going to allow me to return it because the serial numbers on product didn't match serial numbers in box. I made a stink about it and manager allowed me a refund. I'm peeved at this SM Target because to me it looks like there are some shady workers here. When a customer returns expensive product they're supposed to check if serial numbers match and I'm pretty sure that you don't resell such product. This sounds like an employee swapped the new product with their defective product (scuffed and missing an item) and allowed it to be sold. I wasn't going to be their sucker and will report it to the store manager. read more

Then a homeless man walked out with a bottle of alcohol. So I told the nearest sales rep what I saw, and she said, "yeah, nothing we can do about it." I try to avoid going to Target because I'll end up buying more items than what I came in for. This is tough because this location is walking distance from my house and I'm sure there's always something I can buy or didn't realize I needed. This satellite target location is more of a self serve, grab and go, than spend some time meandering Sunday after breakfast kind of store. I kinda like it that way. Let's be real, all targets are the same in that you know you can find it at Target. What sets it apart is how new and clean one looks and the customer service. Had a HORRIBLE encounter with a rude employee named Douglas. After paying for my items and existing the store Douglas not paying attention almost ran me over w his cart, i get it accidents happen, however he was completely disrespectful and rude when I said to him hey be carful you almost knocked me over. Went to pick up a few things and in the makeup department there were a few packages of raw meat sitting on a shelf. I politely told the lady working one row over and she said "ok..." her tone read like, what do you want me to do about? So I said ok, and walked away. I just left without buying anything.
