Needed to leave a long overdue review for this Target Optical. I am so impressed with the doctors and team that work here that I've found myself coming back every year. I live about 30 minutes away from this store but because of how professional and efficient this team is, I happily make the drive. This should say everything it needs to say. I first started coming here and seeing Dr. Rojo for a few years and he was stellar. Very professional and kind. He recently retired and I was encouraged to see the other Dr here who is a female, Dr. Poultney. I've been to her once now and she was just as good. Everyone that works here is uber kind and makes the experience comfortable. I never feel pushed into sales and I always feel the doctors here are very clear on explaining what you need and such. An extra bonus is that their front office staff are equally as wonderful and helpful. Ernie seems to be the gentleman that has helped me over the years. Very friendly and professional. He takes time to walk you through your eyeglass options and is very informative and helpful when I have questions. He doesn't make you feel rushed when you are trying on different glasses and is always very nice. I've been able to come without an appointment a few times when I just needed a quick fix. Again, both times Ernie helped me and got me in an out. One time it was a simple and quick refill order and another time I had squished my glasses and he was able to balance them out and get them good as new. I appreciate the friendly service here and professionalism. If you are looking for a new eye doctor I would highly recommend giving this optometrist a try. I get it's located in a Target which could make it feel "less then" but that's really not the case. This is my 2nd visit to Target Optical and I'm pretty much a fan. Basically, for convenience if nothing else! On my Target run I can just pop in for an eye check. #Winning Just for an FYI, there are 2 separate "departments" here, if you will. Meaning, the eye doctor Dr. Rojo bills you separately after the exam. Then, if you choose to, you can go out into the bigger area to choose your glasses for purchase. It was pretty seamless to schedule online. Yay! The doctor was professional enough, and the payment process was a breeze as well. The only "concern" I have is that the young kids in the optical area are very understaffed. Meaning, I had to wait for a good while as the customers who telephoned were given first priority. That was frustrating, but I guess it is what it is. Would recommend and I am excited to break in my new glasses. Thanks! read more

Loved the really truly wonderful lady doctor at the Main Street store. I'm so bad with name but she was a perfect doc!

I've now had two bad experiences with Dr. Poultney at Target Optical on Main St, Ventura. Yes, she's kind and soft-spoken, and because of this I gave her a second chance after the first debacle. My first appt with her, she diagnosed that I had something terribly wrong (possibly cancer) in my eye, told me to take her written diagnosis directly to my doctor to get approval, told me it was so critical she didn't want to fax it, which I did. So naturally I was pretty scared. When I saw the specialist eye doctor, they found absolutely nothing in my eye and were completely dumbfounded as to why I was there! He was totally in disbelief! He was actually upset with Dr. Poultney. But I gave her another try the following year, thinking it was just some kind of fluke. She asked me before we began the exam, and I specifically told her that I did NOT need contacts or glasses, just a regular yearly exam. When I left the office they charged me $108, and I didn't think about it until later, that my insurance has no co-pay for yearly exams, they're 100% covered. I had my insurance call them, and they refused to refund the money because of something I signed while I was there. I don't remember signing, but maybe I did thinking it was some standard form. So, I would say from experience, in addition to not knowing what she's doing, Dr. Poultney is perfectly fine with overcharging her customers. read more

Dr Rojo is a extremely skilled doctor. He is meticulous and patient and really spend time getting the right prescription for my eye glasses and my contacts. He graciously kept trying new combinations to enable me to have the best vision with contacts possible and he succeeded!!! He recommended a new brand and protocol.I have never seen as good with contacts as I do now after seeing him!! His assistant was also extremely competent, knowledgeable and kind. I'm so glad I took advise and traded in my overpriced but not need as competent Eye Doctor and staff for Dr Rojo and his team. read more

One nose pad on my glasses broke making them impossible to wear. So I put on my backup glasses and went over to Target Optical on Main Street in Ventura. The repair was quickly made. During the repair I asked if my old glasses and my current glasses (neither bought at Target) were close in prescription strength. The employee checked them, had some questions about the results, and asked another employee. Then he checked with the optometrist on duty. I thought this was great. It showed that they care about accuracy, and they worked as a team to serve the customer. The employee didn't guess at an answer, or make up something when he wasn't sure. I scheduled an appointment two days ago. I work 12 hour shifts, unable to answer the phone the day before appointment due to work. However I did fill out some information online for scheduled appointment. Show up on my SCHEDULED appointment and because it was not "confirmed" there was no doctor and I would have to wait until later that day. Not sure why I even made an appointment and made sure to get child care etc. waste of time. read more

Dr. Carey B. Poultney is an able bodied lackluster doctor. She doesn't even deserve to have the title doctor. It should be stripped from her as she has refused to sign my disability accomodation request for school. As a result, I had to book with another doctor in Ventura and they won't be able to see me until June 14th, which is after the midterm, however they were more than happy to sign my paper. Dr. Carey B. Poultney wanted me to pay a fee to pay for her signature, which is absolutely ridiculous. You are in an environment meant to help and betetr the lives of your patients yet you ask for financial compensation just for your signature? You're no celebrity, and you definitely aren't a role model Poultney. I am absolutely disgusted with her practice and will never book here again. Even after explaining that the disability coordinator stated that any medical provider said they could sign the paper, she still refused. Also, I never even got to speak to the doctor, she always had one of her staff members relay the message. Obviously, goes to show how she doesn't care about her patients and sees any extra paperwork as monotous and a means to siphon more money. She must be hiding something that would tarnish her reputation as an OD, or she is just able bodied. Neither being good when trying to serve and better the lives of others. Think twice before seeing this so called doctor. read more

She knows her stuff and is very good at it. she juggled multiple customers including my difficult self and phone calls with out missing a beat! they will clean and adjust your glasses for you with a smile. I got to pairs, on for the car and one of writing reviews....well so i can see to write them anyway. and they have DR Rojo... bouns! read more

I had such a good experience here. First I called and they answered. That might not seem like a lot however I tried to call the Oxnard location and couldn't get through for a good 30 minutes: Then they answered the phone and I could hear them talking, it was very strange. Anyway, this location they answered the phone and the girl who answered was friendly and got me an appointment to be seen that day. I showed up and they greeted me promptly and had me fill out paperwork. Then the doctor called me back. She was seriously fantastic. Super sweet and knowledgeable. She took her time with my exam, explained everything to me, and she educated me. I don't think I've ever had such a great eye appointment before. To be honest, I was surprised at the quality of care. It definitely exceeded my expectations. read more

I am so glad I came across the optical section of Target in Ventura about three weeks ago!! Staff was immediately friendly and welcoming. Not pushy at all while I took time trying on several pairs. I have needed an eye exam and new eye glasses for a few years. The staff got me in for an appointment within three days. Day of the appointment, I filled out a quick form and went right in to see the doctor. No wait! Dr. Rojo was very nice and I was finished with the exam within 15 minutes. Received an updated prescription and paid out of pocket. Target Optical has a great selection of frames. I found a pair that I love and even got a discount on the lenses. It is very affordable. The glasses were ready in one week. When I went in to pick them up, the staff was super nice and made some adjustments so they fit me perfect. I have already recommended Target Optical in Ventura on Main St to friends and family. I have been wearing the glasses for over a week and I am so happy! read more

Pretty blown away with the service I received yesterday!!! Dr. Rojo is very friendly and through. I felt very welcomed and at home while he preformed the exam on me and I felt like I got my money's worth. I was charged $89 for an eye exam with dialation. Not bad since where I use to go I was getting charged $196. Also Kliensman at Target optical is sooo helpful and friendly!!! He gave me his honest opinion on which glasses looked best on me and gave me the breakdown on what my costs were going to be. I should have updated a while back, but the staff at Target Optical went out of their way to make things right for me. The girl gave me 2 complimentary pairs of contacts, as well as the 2 test pairs. That was really nice. I'm not sure why there was such a delay, but she was aware that they had not given me good, or timely, service, acknowledged it (without playing the blame game that so many people do nowadays), and rectified it. Great experience with Target Optical off Main St. Lily was so helpful with glasses picking. She was there to give some suggestions when I asked for them, and also gave me time to browse around. She was very knowledgable and informative when it came to insurance, cost, and options available. Do to it being a great deal, I got a new pair of glasses and my first pair of prescription sunglasses. Pretty amazing and love them! Also great experience when I went to pick them up. Only downside was that I called and found out the glasses had arrived instead of receiving a call that they were ready for pick up. read more

Best pair of glasses and prescription I've ever had. Dr. Rojo is supurb! I didn't want my bifocals to have a "close up" feel and Dr. extended it out to arms length and voila! Done! I thought I would give Target Optical a shot. I recently moved to the area and my regular eye doctor is no longer close by. I made my appointment 2 weeks in advance. 10 am on a Saturday. I arrived promptly at 10, filled out paperwork... at 10:06, the eye doctor called his assistant and said he was going to be late. He already WAS late. The assistant said the doctor said he would arrive around 10:45. Completely unacceptable Back to my regular eye doctor!!! read more

This evening I went to Target's optical center for the first time. I have seen multiple optometrists over the years, but I have never had such a wonderful experience as I did at Target. Their entire staff was efficient and friendly- I got in and out of my appointment very quickly, without having to sit in a waiting room for an extended period of time (this has typically been the case for me at other places in the past). I saw optometrist Richard Rojo. Richard was both kind and patient with me- I absolutely hate having my eyes picked and pocked at, and he was very understanding of this and did all that was in his power to make sure I was more than comfortable. I would recommend him for people of all ages, as he is very kind and accommodating. I will recommend both Richard and Target Optical to friends and family, and I will definitely be back in the future! read more

I normally do not write reviews, but I had such a bad experience at Target Optical that I feel compelled to share it. I had an 11am appointment with Dr. Rojo. After I checked in, I was told he was running 20 minutes late. After 45 minutes, they were still unable to give me an accurate time of when Dr. Rojo would be able to see me. That long a wait, with a scheduled appointment time, is unacceptable. The three front office staff members did not offer an apology. When I cancelled my appointment after waiting 45 minutes, again no apology was offered. Also, there is not sufficient seating if people having to wait. I am the Human Resources Manager for a hospitality company that employs 250 people. I was trying Target Optical to see if it would be a good option for the staff at my company. I cannot endorse this kind of poor service and disinterested and unconcerned attitudes. read more

Klinsman helped me find some awesome glasses (Ray ban) and he was really professional and very nice and personable and had a great attitude even when a new employee had some questions and more customers came in!! read more

Horrible experience with Target optical. The lady who ordered my new pair of glasses in Moorpark was great- she even set up an apt. for me in Ventura the following day due to eye issues that were concerning me. However, after extending my workday to stay in the area and make my Ventura apt. I was told there was another pt. who was bumped from 5:30 to 6 (my apt. time) and I could no longer be seen because the dr. didn't want to stay. I was so upset, I actually cried out of frustration and worry for my vision change issue. The dr. came out of her other apt. with an attitude and told me without an exam she "would just refer me out anyways". (Which I would have been fine with HAD she actually checked my eyes) The manager of the dept. then called and offered an option of driving to another target (Oxnard) to be seen. It was stated that I needed to get there in about 10 min as she was staying open for me. I ran to my car drove there quickly...8 min to be exact. When I arrived a woman told me the dr had left for the night. Another customer also heard this dr. making rude comments as she left. This is NOT how you do business. I was offered discounts for all the trouble.... keep them I won't be returning. read more

I waited over three-and-one-half weeks for my glasses because the first pair of lenses their lab created for me didn't pass their quality control. I felt impatient, but their final product was worth waiting for and it was good to have their quality control to test my lenses. I have been going for annual eye exams for the past 15 years! I've been to several different doctors here in Ventura and no one has been as good as Dr. Rojo! He is a brilliant man who knows what he is doing. I have not seen as clear as I am seeing now in YEARS! His recommendation for contacts was GREAT. I can see and I can see comfortably!
