We enjoyed some snacks (he even ensured the crisps were gluten-free and safe for me), and the drinks were excellent. Our table was ready on time, and we were seated by what probably was a spectacular window view, but while waiting for our table, the sun had set. While it was pitch black out, the restaurant itself was very elegant to look at. Also, our server was attentive and helpful with ordering gf. I had the monkfish and risotto, which turned out to be one of my favorite meals of the trip. Friends had French onion soup and salad, fish n chips, and a steak. Everything was excellent. We were also treated to a complimentary sample of sweets in celebration of our honeymoon. The Malton does "historical hotel" right. It successfully achieves an elegant and vintage atmosphere without seeming "dated." The building itself makes a memorable impression covered in ivy surrounded by beautiful gardens. The Malton is an oasis in the heart of Killarney - within walking distance of all the shops and pubs. The room was gorgeous and the bathroom was supplied with modern amenities that still kept that classic touch. It's worth noting that the hotel does not have air conditioning, but we still found our room to be comfortable. Our only complaint about the room is that it is a little noisy (because of its location about the entrance, no doubt.) Breakfast included the typical array of pastries, meats, and cheeses, but also featured a made-to-order hot food menu with ample variety. The Belgian waffle was worth noting - it was coated in cinnamon and every bite was scrumptious. (It's a bit small though - order 2!) Unfortunately, the restaurant is not managed very well during breakfast. You must wait to be seated by a host, who may then take your order for coffee/tea and toast to pass along to your server - which really slows the seating process. The dining room is tightly packed, making it a little difficult for wheelchairs or strollers to maneuver. (Even on foot, winding your way to the buffet can be difficult.) Such decadence. Thus replenished we boarded our train back to the shmoke. I was welcomed with a lovely chat over tea and a scone by the innkeeper Rosaleen O'Leary! I really appreciated her taking time to get to know me and share her thoughts on Irish history and culture. My room was good sized, appealing and a great value. Showers were hot with good water pressure. The gardens on the property were just gorgeous - imagine Secret Garden type plantings. My stay included a complete hot Irish breakfast with lots of coffee, eggs and Irish bacon - similar to a fried ham. Mmmm. I enjoyed a morning walk down the road to Ross Castle, which I highly recommend. Who knew the advancements in medieval architecture and defense? The waitress came over with a menu but I knew what I wanted since I browsed it before walking in. She seemed new though as she wasn't overly friendly and didn't explain that I had to go up to the bar to cash out. Sipping on my pint of Guinness with Black, in what felt like maybe five minutes, my dinner arrived. I ordered the Cajun Chicken Burger, which is a grilled Cajun chicken fillet topped with lettuce, tomato, and red onion with sweet chili mayo between a toasted brioche bun and served with a side of fries. The sandwich was good, nothing really stood out, but that's fine, it had good flavor overall. I liked the spice it had and the side of fries had come fresh out of the fryer as they were very hot and crispy. Overall, a fine experience at The Failte Hotel. The fries were also super crispy and fluffy, exactly how we like them. The servers were nice and quick to take our orders and bring our food. It took a while to pay the bill but that could certainly be because we weren't sure if they would bring it to us or if we needed to get it from the bar. A musician set up behind our table shortly after we arrived and played some acoustic sets. He was fantastic and we loved listening to him. This was a great place to stop in at when we were exhausted and in need of a good meal. I would go back for the fries on their own because of how good they were.

Parking was included and no extra charge. Perhaps because it was off-season or because we were not staying very long we were upgraded from our woods view room to a Lakeview room. We had a balcony on the top floor that overlooks the lake and some ruins, and it was absolutely stunning. We could watch the deer from our balcony. The room was quite large and had an American sized king bed, and a second bed that was somewhere between an American twin size and an American full-size, a perfect set up for my family of 3. There was also a sitting area and a tea and coffee maker. We did not have dinner at the hotel, but we did have breakfast and it was excellent. There was some thing for everyone in my family. My husband enjoyed the salmon, quiche and sausages. I enjoyed the pancakes and the fun little pancake maker. I also enjoyed the French toast. My little one loved the scrambled eggs and pastries. Overall, we had an excellent stay and I would definitely recommend it. .
