Just moved back to Nac from Houston. I was lucky enough to have taught in the Second Ward of Houston where delicious street tacos are plentiful. Unfortunately, that has not been the case in ol' Nac...until now. I ordered the 4 taco dinner with fajita beef and it did not disappoint. As you enter the building you are greeted with smiles, chips, guacamole, and pico. My fiancé had the super burrito with beef fajita and has requested we come here for his birthday. We've been coming to El Jalisciense since it was still connected to the gas station. The food is always amazing thanks to head chef, Nacho, and his cooks. Servers always friendly and fast. We love the atmosphere, prices are affordable, servings are generous, and a wonderful family business to support. It's a cruelty that the best al pastor tacos I have had outside of Los Angeles is over 200 miles away from my Texas home in an old small Texas town. I checked Yelp ahead of time so that I can have a destination, a reward for 3-1/2 hours of nonstop driving in pouring rain. This place in Nacogdoches is a hole in the wall. I was one of a handful of people inside but I wasn't worried that the food would be mediocre because I saw they had the meat back there on a pit. The al pastor meat is carved from the pit and you can tell--the marinade is so perfect with charred bits of pork. How can it be that my four taco plate is only $6.55 and comes with beans, rice and chips? Or that it also comes with guacamole, the best pineapple pico, jalapeño with carrots and lime in a relish tray? I also tried the carne asada which was also delicious but not equaling the magnificence of the al pastor. I don't know if the heat came from the red and green salsas or from the pico, but I was sweating like I had just done an hour of hot yoga. The menu is pretty basic. You choose your meat and put it inside whatever form you choose: taco, burrito, torta or quesadilla. Service was so friendly and the place is clean. I will be back again tomorrow. And maybe I will take a special trip out here again soon. The al pastor is certainly worth it. read more

We arrived before the lunch rush, so it wasn't that busy. Our server wasn't very attentive considering it was slow. Our food looked AMAZING when it arrived but the first bite into the Torta de Milanesa and it was disgusting. It tasted like old meat that was reheated in the microwave, not only that but it was stale. The rest of our food was pretty okay. When checking out the 2 front people (I'm assuming hosts and manager) were not very customer friendly. Overall the experience wasn't that great, the food was average. This place opened three weeks ago. I came in thinking it was the previous establishment. It wasn't but I was pleasantly surprised. I had the taco plate with barbacoa as the filler. It was excellent! The green salsa was spicy and delicious. The service was great. I enjoyed the cheerful ambience and the guacamole which came with a kick. The owner came around and was very attentive to our needs, as were the waitstaff. I highly recommend this place and I can't wait to go again to try a different dish! read more

Tacos El Jalisciense is the some of the most flavorful Mexican food you can find in East Texas. They offer a full range menu and choice of delicious meats such as fajita and barbacoa. Don't by shy and dine-in... they will serve your meal with REAL, FRESH salsas made IN-HOUSE... nothing comes out of a jar here. You have got to try their salsa made with finely cut pineapple. They also offer aguas frescas, Jarritos, and Mexican Coke. I will definitely stop by here again the next time I am in Nacogdoches. Like should I be embarrassed that some of the staff pretty much recognize me by now. Ya know, my last trip was w/ my now boyfriend and he loved it, in fact everyone I bring here loves the food & then when they see the total (up til recently like 1/2 my trips here were on dates) they're like "that's it?" So it's affordable and I've never once been unhappy, other than maybe that I should've ordered more and just gorged myself cause it's just that good. I think if I HAD to pick a favorite dish it'd be the quesadilla dinner. Either Al Pastor or Chicken. But I can vouch for the burrito, I like mine w/ the cheese, and even the $1 tacos on Wednesday are good!! The fact that they have $1 tacos on Wednesday is amazing tbh. And like THE BEST Horchata in my entire freaking life, like I try & explain horchata to my obviously white friends and they're like "that sounds odd" and then it comes out and they're like totally confused so I let them try it and of 2of 3 that did were like OMG! And have thanked me for their discovery. Like the ONLY thing that would make this if I had to say, I do and I know this is so white girl of me but I LOVE queso which I know isn't exactly authentic so I completely understand! Like not mad they don't, not complaining for them to add it, just it'd be cool it they made their own version maybe... But in all fairness other than my personal wants & needs it's the best food for the best price when we speak of best tacos and authentic Mexican in town. Y'all know y'all are my favorite! Lengua was horrible! Charged $1 extra for it too!! Seemed like a great, authentic place going from reviews... Lengua (which I love & always get this from lots of other restaurants) was rubbery, spongy, and tough textured, difficult to chew, and with a slightly rancid flavor! Wouldn't want it for free so not sure why I had to pay $1 extra for it..... :-( :-( Additionally, rice was a bright, unnatural orange color; beans were watery and not much flavor, and burritos were supposed to come with lettuce, cilantro, tomatoes, & onion yet had hardly any of those in it. read more

Also, they have horchata which I'm addicted to, and which I have a hard time finding away from Dallas or Houston. Awesome food, had the beef quesadillas plate. Food seemed fresh and and very tasty. The reason for 4 instead of 5 stars, was the waitstaff. One female server was giving another female server a piggy-back ride behind the soda station. Did not see a manager or any leadership in the restaurant during our entire meal. Food wasn't good. The steak tacos were too salty. The service was horrible. They didn't even give us paper menus due to Covid-19. The condiments were in bottles to where everyone can touch them. I come in here pretty frequently, and have always enjoyed everything I've ordered. I've only gotten to-go once, but was really thankful they offered it! I'm definitely going to utilize this option again. One of my favorite things to order is the quesadilla dinner (corn or flour, it's delicious either way). Very good food. It's consistently good, with the exception that once in awhile it can be too greasy. The Monterey Burrito, quesidillas, tortas, all very good. My only complaint is that the chips are consistently stale and/or soggy. Other than that, it's great. read more

This is the second time that we've been to this restaurant the first time it was amazing this time it was awful, first I asked for a cup of hot water our waitress came back and stated that the manager said she couldn't give us any but if I wanted coffee I could, I was using the hot water to put my utensils in to clean them,so I asked for plastic ones. Second when our food came I asked her for green salsa and was told they didn't have any green salsa available because a large party had all the bottles,I thought about leaving but our waitress went and looked to see if she could find a bottle from a different table. Our waitress was amazing though she was terrified to inform me of what the manager stated however her just apologizing for her manager made the difference. I tipped her in cash and she was shock her words are you sure I stated yes it's not ur fault you have a crappy manager you did your job. I'm never not going to not tip just because our service was bad because it wasn't her fault,however when we visit our son I'll never go back to this restaurant. read more
