Popped in here this early Saturday evening craving a bite of authentic chips and salsa and a drink cause it's hot in East Texas today yall! Lol - this place didn't disappoint. They had great homemade salsa, pico de gallo , and GUAC! I also ordered the entree with the Monterey poblano dinner stuffed with savory pepper jack cheese and ground beef , served with rice and refied beans! So simple , yet so yummy! I'm so happy this restaurant has its own location now. This was our first trip to their new location and thankfully the food was just as good here. I love the cute decorations inside, the bar, but mostly the food!! The burritos are no joke. You will be full when you leave here! I loved both kids of the sauce they offered, but was partial to the red. The chips were warm and crunchy. Our waitress was great-service was so fast and she was so nice. I wish we lived closer to be able to go here more often. read more

Ordered breakfast tacos in a variety of ways. They got them all right and they were delicious!

I would like to start by saying that I was not expecting to find good tacos on my trip to Nacogdoches. But I was pleasantly surprised to find an excellent taco restaurant the night before visiting this one, so my expectations were higher than they would've otherwise been. The restaurant had a fun interior and service was friendly and quick. But the food was .. pretty bad. I ordered 3 different tacos and could only eat one of them as the others tasted really "off" - maybe not rotten, but like old meat that was reheated multiple times and which didn't even have a good flavor to begin with. My husband ordered a torta, which was soggy due to the layer of beans spread inside, and also had a strange flavor (maybe old oil was used to cook the milanesa?). I can say that the food was extremely cheap, but I guess we got what we paid for. There are 2 other more authentic taco shops (and some amazing barbecue) we encountered in Nacogdoches; we would highly recommend looking elsewhere for a good meal. read more

Authentic? ABSOLUTELY! After reading what others had to say, we had to try it out and I'm pretty happy we did. The mealsnstartboff with chips and and stuff including guacamole, pickled jalapeno, limes, etc. So yummy! (And free!) The food was fresh and had lots of flavor! I had the quesadilla dinner with lengua and barbacoa. Both were loaded and delicious!!! I didn't particularly like the beans and rice, but not saying it was bad. My daughter had the quesadilla rancheros and OMG, they were def 5-star worthy! She was also lucky enough to order horchata, which I had to sample. I was jealous of her whole meal! Invited by friends, I went to El Jalisciense for my first time. There will be more visits ! First thought was, this place is clean and authentic. I ordered taco meal, which consisted of 4 tacos, rice and beans. I went with beef and had 2 corn and 2 flour tortillas. The tacos were very simple, but full of flavor. The beef tacos were topped off with onion & cilantro and were very good!! Before the meal, chips along with jalapeños, guacamole, and PICO were served. Dang it was all good!! Visited with the family and ordered the chorizo burrito. It was the worst burrito I have ever had! The chorizo tasted very gamey, dirty and old. Only took about three bites. Wasted time and money. They were also out of queso. The service was bad too. No refills of the drinks, table left dirty with all of the plates still on the table after we finished and were talking. Table never cleaned. The waitress never told us we had to pay up front with the cashier. So we sat there for a while waiting for her to take our money. A good waitress would go ahead and take the money to the cashier as extra service which would be deserving of a good tip. Not surprised by the bad experience here involving gamey meat because I ordered chicken tacos from the old location and found a bladder in the taco! We will never return. read more

Free guacamole, free chips and papas asadas with grilled onions, what more could you want. Dirt cheap prices, most expensive item on the menu is like 6.99. I ordered the quesadillas plate with campechano and steak. Campechano is a combination of pork, steak and chorizo. They don't make homemade flour tortillas here, but the quesadillas are really tasty and filling. This small space is attached to a gas station, but don't let that fool you....this taco spot is legit. I also added a pork tamale just to try it, and it was surprisingly yummy. Their aguas frescas are pretty good as well. Just ask your server which flavors they have for the day. Very laid-back place. You get to see a lot of people that you may have not seen in a while. On Wednesdays this place is the gathering spot for lunch. That goes are cheap then. Staff is always quick and friendly, and I'm usually the one concerned about where things are in the bag. They just tell you it's in the bag. Turns out it is in the bag. That kind of thing. If you like authentic Mexican food, you will love El Jalisciense. It's a bit hard to find, behind two Exxon pumps, and the parking is a minor challenge. But once you put their food in your mouth, you'll be glad you found them. They offer burritos, tacos (tacos on Wed = $1.00), quesadillas, tortas and more. You'll find standard meats such as beef, chicken, and pork. They also offer roast and more exotic meats like lengua (not sure about spelling). And the food is great. There are two house salsas one, red and one green. Both great. They also offer guacamole and pico de gallo at the counter. And here's the deal. All that at low prices. What's a Mexican boy (ok, maybe not - a 48-year-old Mexican) do to when they want taqueria food in a place like Nacogdoches?! I mean I can barely spell "Nacogdoches." I wandered into this place not knowing what to expect. Typically, when you walk into a great taqueria, you're going to 1. hear some type of Spanish music coming out of a jukebox, 2. hear people speaking Spanish, and 3. smell good food cooking. Well 1 out of 3 wasn't bad. I could definitely smell something good cooking. I had the carne asada burrito plate. The burrito was really good. So were the beans and rice. I wish I could say the food was excellent - but for the price it was really, really good. This place makes up for any shortcomings with the great prices. I couldn't believe how cheap it was. I was a bit disappointed with the lemonade I ordered. Typically I expect aquas frescas to have a particular taste. This one tasted like it came from a powdered mix and not fresh. But again, the price was right. My son is coming to school here soon, so I suspect I'll be trying more things on this menu. Looking forward to it. read more

I usually can eat it for lunch and will skip dinner, and i'm a big dude. I need to try some of the other food here, but I like the burrito so much I don't know if I ever will. Super tasty! Very affordable. Authentic Mexican. One of my very favorite Mexican places in Nac. Most of the sit down Mexican restaurants in Nac are pretty blah. This is delicious!! Great and fast service. Friendly staff. Lots of free fixings with your chips and salsa including guacamole, canned jalapeños, diced fresh jalapeños and onion, and sliced grilled potatoes and onions (you have to ask for those). We ate there twice in two days, because we just couldn't get enough of the scrumptious food. Your meal begins with chips and a complimentary selection of pineapple pico de gallo, guacamole, pickled jalapeños, and limes. Who gives away guacamole?? El Jalisciense, that's who! I had the chicken quesadillas both days, and forget the flat, boring quesadillas you usually get at a Tex-Mex restaurant. These were bulging with chopped chicken, cheese, onions, and fresh cilantro, tucked inside double corn tortillas (you can have flour if you like) that had been perfectly toasted on the outside. The outer tortilla had just enough crunch without breaking into pieces, while the inner tortilla was soft and steamy. My husband had the beef fajitas one day, and the meat was very tender, well-seasoned and served with caramelized onions and jalapeño peppers. His meal came with a stack of flour tortillas, just as perfectly toasted as the corn tortillas. The next day, he had the beef quesadillas, and they were as full of yummy goodness as the chicken ones I had. Not only is the food a blessing to your taste buds, but the prices are a steal. For example, our two meals along with drinks came to twenty dollars and change. Crazy! Service was prompt and friendly, as well. Our only regret is that we were just visiting Nac and won't be able to eat here all the time. read more
