The barbacoa tacos with rice and beans were just edible. The barbacoa lacked char and tasted like…read moreit was boiled with nearly no flavor. Rice was broken as if it were scraped from the bottom of a pot. Beans and house tortilla chips were unremarkable. However, the salsa, side salad, and toppings on the tacos were all fresh. Service and atmosphere both had room for improvement. The menu had labels over each price with a new (higher) price written in ink. The tables possessed a huge advertisement and wobbled, the seats were uncomfortable lacking padding and support. There was a claw and arcade machine in the dining area. After receiving the check, I had to walk up to the register to pay. None of these things were conducive for comfort.

What can I possibly say about Rio Bravo Mexican Restaurant?…read more THE GOOD: -They were open on 4th of July. -Staff was very nice. -The menu is a book, full of options. THE BAD: -A bit difficult to find. The GPS led us to the plaza but not the restaurant itself. -The restaurant was a ghost town upon arrival. It took a bit to find an employee to take our order. -The restaurant looks worn down and could benefit from some new and updated furniture. THE UGLY: -Possibly the best tortillas I've ever had, the vegetables also were so fresh, the rice flavorful. So what's the issue then? The meat was cheap, bland, and horrible given that everything else was A+. Consequently, four stars might be rather kind given how disappointing that meat was. I would definitely return if in the area and instead order the chicken. Skip the steak here!

Absolutely horrendous experience…read more My husband and I were passing through Okeechobee and decided to stop for lunch and it ended up being a huge disappointment from start to finish. Before ordering, the waitress offered chips and salsa, which we happily accepted since it's something we always look forward to at Mexican restaurants. She asked if we wanted mild or hot so we chose one of each. She also mentioned the salsa would be served warm which we thought was unusual but did not question at the time. When it arrived the chips seemed like basic store bought rounds and instead of salsa, we were served what tasted exactly like hot enchilada sauce. Both bowls were the same spice level despite us requesting mild and hot. At first I thought it might be taco sauce but when my husband's enchiladas came out it confirmed that we had been served the same exact sauce as on his plate. I also ordered a burrito but what I received was more like an open faced soft taco since it was not wrapped at all and was very small. The refried beans were also completely bland and had no flavor. Overall, the food and experience were extremely disappointing. It felt like a very poor representation of Mexican cuisine and I would not recommend this place to anyone. Stay away.
