My friend and I had lunch here completly by chance, but I'm glad we did. Such a good location on Karl Johan (the main street in Oslo city center) can often be a bad sign, chain restaurants with meeeh food, but this was not the case. We walked past just as they were opening on a beautiful Friday, and obviously got a seat right away since we were the first people there. It was a warm day so we sat outside in the sun. They also have some tables inside, and it looked hip inside, and appropriate for the cuisine. I decided on the chicken tacos, and my friend got the beef cheek tacos. We also got guacamole and tortilla chips to share as a starter. We got the quac and chips very quickly. We're not sure the chips were made in-house or not, but they were easily a step up from store bought. The guacamole was delicious and creamy. Our tacos arrived just a few minutes later. You get two tacos for a little over 100NOK, which I think is a great price for Norway, and a pleasant surprise considering the location. We were both very happy with our tacos. They were delicious and well balanced. My only complaint is mine was a bit heavy on the oregano, but my friend said hers were perfect. For us this was enough for lunch, but if you're a big eater you want want to go for more than just two tacos. We also got the homemade lemonade, which I LOVED. Not too sweet, not too sour, juuuuust right. I just wish it cost a little bit less, but it's not as bad if you share. The two waiters we dealt with were both polite and attentive, and didn't have that 'I hate my life and job' vibe that I often get in the big cities. They were basically the perfect waiters. Even now, almost a week since my visit, I can't stop thinking about my tacos and I can't wait to go back on my next visit to Oslo! Highly recommended for lunch. read more

I'm going with the solid 3 star trend this restaurant seems to hold. I should have known Norway wouldn't be popular for its Mexican food but sometimes when your craving a taco your stomach beats your head. Location & Decor: 5 stars- located along the shops and other restaurants in Oslo this area is busy busy. Lots of tourists and things to see. It was a surprisingly hot day so we opted to sit inside despite how you their covered patio was outside. The inside decor was adorable. Very pop art feel, trendy yet casual it had a good vibe. Service: 4 stars- our waiter was friendly. He was knowledgable of the menu and took our order quick. Only reason to dock a star was that we ordered the guac & chips appetizer but he brought it out with our tacos. Defeated the whole propose of ordering it. He was nice, apologized, and recognized that he forgot to bring it earlier but I would have preferred he asked if we still wanted it instead of bringing it late and charging us full price. Tacos: Meh, a solid 3 stars to be generous. We couldn't decide so we split the fried lobster taco and the asada taco. The proteins and toppings alone were pretty good, the asada marinade was smoky and who doesn't like fried lobster? The issue truly is the tortillas, cold, bland, flour tortillas-you can tell just by looking at the pictures. A big no no! Tasted mediocre and ruined what could have been good. Also the cost is steep for what you get. Guac & salsa was bland and runny. Overall despite the fun atmosphere I wouldn't call those tacos. I think if they changed up their taco shells/tortillas they would have something really wonderful with their fried lobster. Just a suggestion. read more

Coming in from California and having ate a lot of great tacos the last couple of years. It's absurd to me how this place is still in business. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Me, my cousin and his kids where in the area this saturday afternoon. We felt pretty hungry, and Fridays and O'Learys didn't sound too tempting, so we opted for this place with an open mind. The Service: The waiter was rude, and had an attitude from pretty early on, I think he thought we spent too much time inquiring and deciding what to order, so he sighed and sat down on a chair at our table while we were making the order(!), which was kinda weird... Later on, after getting dismissed twice trying to get his attention, I asked him if he had an espresso maker, to which he laughed. Felt like a way of implying that it was a stupid question (I've never been to a taco shop with an espresso machine so I don't find this question weird, and even if had been, that's not a nice way to communicate with your customers). He also kept referring to the tortillas by pronouncing the 'L' which should've been a red flag from the start lol. The Food & Pricing: Being 2 adults and 3 kids. We had 10 small tacos, 4 33cl sodas, 2 espressos, and a quesadilla to share. Dry, overcooked chicken etc in what seemed to me to be heated, store bought flour tortillas. Ended up paying over a 1000 Norwegian Kroners! Didn't even get full.. The chips and guac was like 100kr. Chips, guac and pico de gallo was like 140NOK(!) 40kr for salsa? Charging 140kr for something you often get for free while waiting on your meal in at other Mexican restaurants is crazy to me.. Follow Up & Payment: Nobody came to check up on us during or after the meal. When we were ready to leave, I walked up to the counter to pay. After I got the check, the waiter made a big thing that he had forgotten to add the coffees to the bill, and spent a couple of minutes printing a new check with a larger balance for us while I was standing there waiting to pay. I could've lived with with bad service and high prices if the tacos were great. Or bad tacos if the service and pricing was good. But messing up all three at this price range is just insane.. Overcomplicated, overpriced tacos! Be wary of tourist-area restaurants with lobsters on the menu: most likely it's there only to impress tourists. The location is super nice - along Karl Johans gate, with a view of the fountain. But it should be reserved only for drinking margaritas after a day of shopping, rather than for good tacos. As a local Oslo taco fanatic, I'm disappointed. The combination are ill-fitting, as if they just randomly threw darts at the The Complete Hipster Taco Catalogue. Some of them are completely off. The crispy quesadillas had portobello mush which makes the texture wholly unpleasant. At least we now know: in a game of "Chicken, Queso Fresco, Portobello", Portobello dominates hands-down. My reviews are always based on food, but this time I'll also complain about service: we ordered apple juice for our 3-yr old son but he changed his mind. We asked to switch drinks since the apple juice bottle's seal has NOT been opened, but they say the order is done. This is a cozy little bar/restaurant in the Paleet complex on Karl Johans. The tacos are on the small side but they are very tasty and served in soft shell - no Old El Paso style taco party here, thank god. The tacos are between 85-98 NOK and for that you get two per serve. If you're hungry (or American) the serving size is more like a starter. There are other menu items like ceviche and quesadillas but the tacos are the main deal here. Went here with my father after reading both the Yelp reviews, and the menu online. The atmosphere was rather good, with lovely wall art and decor. (And I loved the small jar-glasses). We both had the Shrimp Salad, which was served rather quickly and with a hot salsa on the side. I absolutely loved it! Tasty, savoury, and because of the cranberries, a bit sweet. I will absolutely be returning, and this time I'll try the tacos! Addendum: Huge plus points for including allergen information on all your dishes. Although I would love to see some nutritional information, I understand that it isn't allways practical for smaller restaurants. read more

If you're open minded about what constitutes "Mexican" food then this is the place for you! If your looking for typical Mexican or Tex Mex I would not recommend this restaurant. It's location is amazing, in the same building as my favorite book store in the city. The food was interesting in a good way but not at all what I was expecting. I ordered the quesadilla a typically cheese filled dish but there wasn't really any at all to speak of... All in all I liked this restaurant but the prices might keep me from returning to this one. read more

Who would have thought my favorite restaurant in Oslo would be a Mexican restaurant? Of course it is, because who doesn't love good tacos? We came for the food and stayed for the margaritas. Seriously, the margs were on.point. I opted for the Rattlesnake margarita while the boyfriend went with the more manly Tommy's margarita, served in a copper mug. Both were excellent, the bartender managed to elevate something as simple as a margarita into something unique and flavorful. For food we decided to start with some chips and pico de gallo which were light and fresh. We then split the taco tasting, for 195 NOK you get 4 tacos of the chefs selection. Each taco was more delicious than the next with each cooked perfectly, maintaining a succulent juiciness and flavor. In order, my favorite was the lobster taco with lime mayonnaise and crispy onion. Second was the jumbo shrimps taco with mint slaw, garlic, habanero and tamarind salsa. It had a nice kick with a spicy chipotle flavor. Next as the pulled pork with pineapple, red cabbage relish and onion. Awesome combination of sweet and savory. And last, but of course not least, was the chicken adobado taco with pico de gallo, manchego cheese and oregano which oddly reminded me of chicken parm wrapped in a soft taco shell - that's not a complaint. On top of the excellent food, the service was outstanding. Really nice people who seem to genuinely care about the food and drinks they serve. I have no doubt I'll be back here! read more

I ate the taco tasting menu and my friend had the sweet potato fries, it was crazily over priced (even for norway), the tacos tasted like frozen pizza and the service was soooooo shitty. There were only one other table besides ours (and they had already got their food), so the guy comes over and we order. He comes over a couple of minutes later and asks us what we ordered, and he still messed it up. I got my food and we waited for the fries which never showed up, we told the other waiter and he placed an order for them. I was able to finish all my food before my friend got her fries and there were still only one other table besides us. Fries doesn't take that much time to make. Also if I pay over 200 kr for a meal, I expect to be full. read more

The food was pretty average without any spice or flavor, unlike real Mexican (or TexMex food). But the reason I'm giving Taqueria such a low review is because our server broke a BOTTLE OF GLASS literally under our table and didn't clean it up, apologize, or comp us anything. To make matters worse, my friend got a piece of glass down her shoe, which I helped her fish out, and had a cut on the back of her calf. What type of restaurant, or restaurant staff, would do that?? It's beyond rude, it's sue-worthy in my opinion. Needless to say we won't be going back there. Taqueria, teach your servers better etiquette & health code rules. Do not recommend this restaurant simply because of service. It takes forever to get someone to acknowledge you and then becomes worse from there. No one ever asked if we needed any thing. We even had to track the waitress down for our check. Food was ok but nothing special. read more

Unfortunately I cannot write a review on the quality of the food at Taqueria as we were never given the opportunity to try. As a Californian native living in Norway, I have become somewhat of a Mexican food coinsure in the Mexican restaurant industry in Oslo. Most American expats will agree that word spreads quickly when a quality Mexican restaurant opens in Oslo that we can serve as out "go to" for a craving fix. On Sunday I successfully finished the Oslo marathon and as a reward my family and I ( husband and 4-year old daughter who loves Mexican food) were eager to try the new Mexican restaurant in town. Although it was a busy Sunday, the small dining area was not full and there were available tables, however, with only two chairs at each table. We inquired with the first employee who walked by us to whether it was okay to sit down at one of the available tables and add a third chair. We were shocked by the nature and tone of his response when he told us that we were three people "and as you can see there are only tables with two chairs" and then proceeded to tell us that the restaurant was not a place for children as Mexican food is "too spicy". I explained that we were well aware of what Mexican food was and tasted like and that my Norwegian-American child had lots of experience eating Mexican food and enjoyed it. He responded that since I was from California I must be confused as this is "real Mexican food" and not "Tex-Mex," (obviously he was the confused one). Despite our efforts, we were essentially told that this was not an appropriate establishment for children and we invited to return when we did not have our child with us. Needless to say, we will never return. We will continue to get our Mexican fix at more family friendly establishments that serve authentic Mexican food, Taco Republica and Tijuana. read more
