Always very interested in other countries take on Mexican food. As a native from San Diego California, I always set low expectations though because it's just so far from Latin America. This place can be found in the Foodhallen located just north of Vondelpark.
Taqueria Lima is exactly what it's name implies, they serve only tacos. They offer several different proteins including "corn fried chicken" whatever that is. I didn't feel very adventurous, so I just tried the Chipotle braised beef tacos. Each order comes with two tacos and cost 8 Euro each. They're essentially Tijuana style taco sized.
My braised braised beef tacos unfortunately were a massively disappointing. The beef was a bit dry, overcooked and lacked seasoning unfortunately. They also added cooked corn kernels and sour cream which was a bit weird, but everything else tasted okay and fresh. The tortillas were pretty damn good for Europe in my opinion. They don't have their own hot sauce here, they pretty much supply store bought stuff.
The biggest red flag though and why I rate this place 1 star is the appalling lack of food safety standards. After eating my food and heading back to the register to shoot another photo, I noticed the register person was wearing gloves making the food. Well that's good, until he went to help a customer, he did not remove his gloves and took money and used the register with the same ones and went back to making food. This is literally the biggest no-no with food, you cannot touch money and handle food like that. Even in Mexico with street vendors selling tacos, there's ALWAYS at least two people working. One handles the money and the other one cooks. I found this to be pretty nasty and I hope they see this review and change their standards. read more
