This is the first mexican restaurant in Amsterdam that actually served refried beans with the meal…read more I don't know if that's such a big deal but to me it's a small detail that deserves merit. I ordered a combination enchilada meal consisting of one chicken and one beef enchilada along with the refried beans and a small salad in the middle of the plate. The waiter asked if I like my food spicy. I said yes so he added more jalapenos to the meal spicing it up a bit. He also served me chips and salsa although the salsa was more like a hot sauce than a salsa in my opinion. Regardless, it was a welcome change to what I've been munching on lately. I also had a mexican beer, a Dos Equis. which was one of several mexican beers that they offer. On top of all that since they carried Cuervo Gold I orderd a shot of that. Overall the menu had some interesting choices I'd not seen in other mexican restaurants in Amsterdam. I must assume from the name of the restaurant that burritos are their trademark specialty. I'll have to go back because I wasn't in a burrito mood. I'd go back to try more things on their menu. They're also dog friendly.

The food here sadly has not been given love by the chef. It's not terrible but far from good. Rice was definitely not fresh, beans were not bad and service thank god was decent. Two thumbs up for playing some Rolling Stones in the restaurant, making a good pina colada (which is not mexican btw but still yummy) and putting a decent amount of cheese on the dishes. I feel like this place has potential. Maybe Gordon Ramsey needs to come here and help them out? And lastly, the icing on the cake... the prices are ridiculous for the quality of food you get. If the food got a little more attention and love, this place would be a lovely place to grind on mexican food!

If you are looking great Mexican-inspired comfort food in Amsterdam, Parakeet is a absolute gem…read more It's tucked away in Oud-West near the Foodhallen and has such a cozy, lively vibe. The Food: The homemade nachos are the real deal--super crunchy and clearly house-fried. I highly recommend the pulled pork (The Vondel); the meat is incredibly tender and the toppings are so fresh. One thing to know: the portions are massive! The "half" option is honestly more than enough for one person as a full meal. The Drinks: You can't come here without trying their margaritas. They are perfectly balanced, and they even have a spicy version that is dangerous! I also love that they have a great selection of other cocktails and non-alcoholic options for those not drinking, so everyone in the group is covered. Pro-Tip: It's a small, popular spot with limited seating, so definitely make a reservation if you're planning to visit in the evening. It fills up fast! Great food, big portions, and even better drinks. I'll be back for sure!

My friends and I chatted with the owners, who have loved Amsterdam for years and dreamed of moving here to open a restaurant. It is obvious they put a lot of heart into this place, which manages to be both uber hip and inviting. Also their dog Lucy is just the sweetest and is happy to welcome you at the door. More importantly, the nachos are AWESOME. We tried the chili nachos and the pork, and both were delicious. They told us they make the chips in house, and it shows. So much better than the typical Amsterdam nachos. We also loved the queso dip, which is hard to find here. The cocktails were excellent too. I especially loved the coconut daiquiri, but the margarita was great as well. The prices were very reasonable. They said the drink list is seasonal and I can't wait to try out the new drinks. Parakeet is such a gem and I can't wait to return!

I ran in here to escape the rain and was surprised by how nice and dry the intimate covered terrace is; a wonderful place to sit and enjoy a meal. I didn't get wet at all. They also have plenty of nice seating inside. Ordered the Carnitas Tacos and they were really good! You get 4 tacos with an order. My first time having tacos in Holland. They were flavorful with fresh soft tortillas and had some crunchy chicharron inside, which make them extra delicious. The tacos come with green salsa and onions. I have to say my horchata wasn't the best but I'm gonna give them a pass on it because maybe it's just not that popular here. The good thing is that it was not too sweet. The service was great and with a smile and they were so nice. They gave me such a cute table, even though I was dining alone. It's always nice to watch the world go by on a terrace as you enjoy your meal. The sweet candies that come with the bill are delicious. It's a little pricey for Mexican food (25.50€ for 4 tacos) but this is Holland so I'm not going to gripe. If you're craving some really delicious tacos, this is a great place to try in central Amsterdam. They also have lots of really wonderful looking mixed drinks. Try a margarita!

Could be improved: received potato chips with hot sauce instead of chips and salsa. Very interesting choice. Price was extremely high but that is too be expected for the busy tourist areas in Amsterdam. You won't be disappointed by the food may have shell shock when you receive the bill.

We ordered some of the tacos to share (they have 4-5 per serve) and I honestly think that these are pretty good for Mexican food on the Netherlands. The tortillas were freshly made and soft, and the mole chicken was flavorful. The downside was the carne asada was a bit tough but still tasty and came with some fresh guacamole. Overall since this place is local to me and the service was so friendly, I'd definitely come back and make this my go to for Mexican in my neighborhood.

Service was prompt and we started off with house margaritas. They were tasty, sorry I forgot to get a picture, we are from Texas, so know good margaritas and tex-mex, these were on par with what we are used to. We also had their chips and salsa, which was good and better than expected as we have very high standards. Our friends arrived and we talked awhile before actually ordering. The place filled up fairly quickly but never got too loud for conversation. My wife and I shared the tacos carnitas our friends had the chicken nachos and a chicken burrito. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meals. Our tacos were flavorful, tasty and a good portion size. The only drawback, was not enough to deduct a star, was that the pico de gallo was wet enough that the tacos were resting in a shallow soup. Still they were good so no big deal. If you are from Texas and craving Mexican food, this is the place to go, 5 star service and ambience, reasonable prices, and 4.5 star food (so 5 star overall). If you are not from Texas or Mexico, and you want to try those flavors, try this place. Highly recommended, you won't be disappointed. Felize comiendo!
