Full disclosure: I have never had any other Latin food int he Pacifica area, but for my first time trying it around here, I found a decent spot in La Perla! Right from the start, the service was great. I was greeted and when in need of extra time, the cashier was super patient. Service Grade: A I felt that there were a lot of food options and the food came out in a timely manner. I was with my daughter so I ordered myself a California Burrito with shredded beef (Birria de Res) and 4 tacos (2 steak, 1 chicken, and 1 pastor) to share with my little one. The food was flavorful and the burrito was a generous size. California burritos do not come with rice or beans, but rather, French fries. The French fries didn't seem fresh was my only minus for this place, but otherwise, the food was great! Food Grade: A- If I could give this place a 4.5, I would. Haven't been here in years but came back to see why we haven't been here in years. Food was good. Meats had good flavor. Waffle fries got hit with shrinkflation. I recall the portion being so much bigger before, (not like I could finish either portion). Ordered a large horchata which was a yes for me. Not watered down, had good flavor. Their mole sauce was also really good. Didn't have that typical dark bitter sauce. It was pretty tasty. Workers were very friendly and eager to take our order. Seating is a tad odd since it's all hugged against the wall, but place is clean. Dined in today for the first time. Ordered the Super Chicken Nachos and finished with churros on our way out. The nachos were so good! Perfect amount of each component, lots of flavor. I've been going here for at least 6+ years. Stumbled upon this place on accident and have continued coming here since then. My go to is Al Pastor super burrito with refried beans. Sometimes we also get the chorizo super nachos. They also have menudo and pozole that is yummy. Their orange sauce has a smoky taste that I really like. Like everyone else, prices have gone up a decent amount over this time, but we do keep coming back! We usually order to go and just eat it at home and will keep coming back. read more

This place is actually pretty good. I was born and raised in SF so I grew up on those Mission district burritos. Their food is good and flavorful. I love the chips and salsa. I knocked of a star because I love some authentic guacamole and theirs is far from that. I don't even know if it should be called guacamole because it's more of a green cream than the typical yummy mashed avocados with all the fixings. I think if they would use actual guacamole it would be a 10/10. read more

Six years later and time for an update. First, I should have come back here way sooner to update and say that, back in 2019, although I didn't care for most of their meats, the one truly excellent one they had was the shrimp. Absolutely delicious. And I just went back there tonight after not having gone there for a minute, shrimp is still wonderful, but here to update on something new La Perla has, at least new to me: they now have a chicken option that is made with chicken breast, and it's delicious. Back when they opened they only had dark meat chicken. Great for some, but not for white meat chicken snobs like me and many others. So when I went I tonight, although nothing changed on the big fixed menu up above, but on the wall to the right was a simple sign that said something like "we have steamed chicken." I said to the cashier, steamed chicken, what do you mean by that? It kinda took a minute to figure out but what it really should have said: "we now have chicken breast." Indeed, they still have dark meat chicken, I believe leg meat, for their regular grilled chicken, but now they also have -- and some of you will already have heard of this -- Pollo Cocido. If you ever went to the ol' beloved, but now defunct, El Grano de Oro on Francisco Blvd. (which is now Taqueria Pacifica and does NOT have pollo cocido) it is stewed chicken in a very mild red salsa, ENTIRELY chicken breast, and incredibly delicious. I ordered two pollo cocido tacos and they were excellent. And, they are still using those authentic golden masa tortillas, which are so delicious and WAY better tasting than the usual factory-made corn tortillas you get elsewhere. Granted, they are about ¾ of the size of those factory ones, but worth it because they taste so great and enhance the overall flavor of the taco. So ... my friends at La Perla -- you're gonna be seeing me a lot more often from now on! read more

I've been coming to La Perla for years and I'm always so happy with the service and quality of food! My go-to order is a steak super burrito, churros and a horchata or mandarin jarrito. The super burrito hits the spot every single time!!! The churros are so slept on. The filling in the middle is delicious and it's always served piping hot. Came here on. Sunday afternoon for a quick lunch. Order was taken right away and we were enjoying our selection within a few minutes. Food was hot and delicious. They have a help yourself salsa bar that also had pickled vegetables, radishes and jalapeños. Food was yummy and decently priced. Service was good and place was clean. Up until today La Perla was the hands favorite of mine I. Pacifica and I've d here my whole life.. even though La Perla has only been around for about 10 years , I was impressed from day 1.. I will say that that quality good meat is not the norm and you will find grizzly rubbery pieces of carttiledge in the steak and chicken and probably every other meat here.. On top of that today I order$80 worth of food And one of the burritos came back incorrect. I know we placed the order correctly because he read it back us both when I ordered and when I brought it up to get remade.. then after he takes the food apologizes, he brings the burrito back and says that they can't remake it because we placed the order with everything.. that's just not possible because my my cousin is allergic to bean and allergic tonavacado.. so this guy was lying and smiling and I got charged 18 for a burrito that I didn't order and my cousin did not eat. She declared that these tacos were top notch delicious. My pozole was near on perfect. LOTS of tender pork meat cubes. Chickpeas cooked through but still toothy. Broth tasty without being spicy. If you want fire soup the small container of chile paste on the side will light your hair aflame. I've eaten 1000's of pozole bowls, this one was in the top five for satisfaction. Criticism? The salsa bar is limited. The 3 liquid salsas are watery. No deal breaker, just use more. Free basket of chips. Fresh tamarindo & horchata in the fountains. It took 50min to get my tacos and that's because I had to ask how much longer. 05.13.2023 - Take out for dinner. It's Saturday night. Don't want to go out. Just wanted to get some street tacos and call it a night. Our go-to Mexican spot closed early so husband and I started yelping for a new spot. Only 7 minutes away from where we were, we decided to try Taqueria La Perla. Just off the freeway, it was easy to get to and easy to find. They have their own parking lot which was a plus. With only one table dining in, we thought, it's kinda slow for a Saturday night. But then again, it's almost closing time. We ordered the carne asada super burrito, carne asada regular taco and mixed fajita plate. We couldn't wait to get home to eat as we were famished and the steaming aroma from our take out bag was seducing us. It looked legit and smelled legit. But the moment we took a bite into our food, the taste was not legit. Extremely flavorless and bland. Carne asada and the shrimp felt rubbery and flat out flavorless. The chicken also had no flavor. Sour cream, guacamole and salsa was piled next to the meats and veggies that it was having its own pool party. So drenched (barf). The corn tortilla appeared to be 4pcs but each piece got stuck together that it tore as I tried to pull them apart. So so soggy.... The only thing I enjoyed was the rice and beans. Husband didn't enjoy his burrito either. Taco was also soggy and lack of flavor and texture. No onions or cilantro. Just meat and watered down salsa. Chips were stale. Did I mention the salsas tasted watered down? The only reason that I'm able to give 2 stars is because their service was kind and friendly. read more
