The taco plate with ground beef, no cilantro. The waitress is always quick with service, granted it is a very small hole in the wall so limited customer seating but still fast. And the time it takes to get my plate out is always less than 10 minutes. I always mix my green and red sauce together with the rice and beans and eat it as a dip, it's so tasty. That green sauce is spicy but so flavorful. The tacos are cooked to near perfection, their corn tortillas are on the crispy side which I love and the meat is always flavorful. Be careful if you go to this place FYI!!!! 1. Not honoring menu prices If the menu says one thing and they charge another, that's false advertising. In Texas, the price displayed is the price they're supposed to honor. Period. 2. Forcing you to keep a dessert that tasted old and bitter Telling you to "just remove the top part" is insane. If food is bad, they replace it or remove it from the bill. That's basic hospitality. 3. Charging more because you didn't want ice Charging $3 more for "no ice" is ridiculous. That's not a policy -- that's a scam. If they want to charge for a larger size, they need to offer a larger size, not sneak it in. 4. No detailed receipt You're right -- shady places avoid itemized receipts so customers can't catch the price changes. That's exactly why they do it. read more

You walk in and Rosa de Guadalupe or las novelas is on the tv with some good Mexican music coming from the kitchen, usually cumbias or norteñas, Laura Pausini or some jam. Sit down and order some green chicken enchiladas, caldo de camarón and an agua de tamarindo or jamaica and enjoy your chips and salsa. This is a small, quirky, strip center gem that I never would have thought to go to without my Yelp friends' advice. It's dive-ish with a handful of tables but it's brightly covered walls, SD TV blaring a Mexican talent show and unusual mix of Tecate signs and posters of England hanging up let me know this place has personality. I was immediately greeted at the door and brought chips and two types of salsa. The green and red salsas are almost worth the trip alone. The green sauce is a wonderful mix of avocados, jalapeno and cilantro that is spicy and addictive. The red sauce compliments nicely with its sweet, smoky heat. I ordered the chile relleno which came out super quickly. it was one of the best chili Rihanna's I've had in a long time. the texture was great, the mild chili awesome and the sauce was killer. The rice and beans were only slightly above average but none remained on my plate at the end of the visit. OH man. You gotta love any place that serves chips and a trio of salsas as soon as you sit down. Yum! The green salsa tastes extremely fresh and bright, but damn it's spicy! The dark red has an incredible smokey flavor and a serious kick, and the plain red is the most mild, but still delicious. Chips appear to be fried in house, but I'm not sure. Either way, they're pretty stellar. For lunch I ordered beef tips which came in a deep, savory, and amazing sauce, plus rice and refried beans. The beef tips were extremely tender and flavorful, and while the rice seemed a bit mediocre, the beans were piping hot and addictive. I put everything inside warm tortillas for a make-your-own taco delight. Order a sliced avocado on the side to make any meal extra awesome! The coke here is a classic Mexican coke in a bottle, so you know it's good. I honestly prefer nasty regular corn-syrup coke (the Mexican version is almost too sweet for me), but they aren't too pricey here and I drank the whole thing! It's very difficult for me to find a Mexican place that I like for 2 reasons: 1) I'm Mexican and if I want authentic Mexican food I make it myself or go straight to my mothers house, NOTHING beats that. 2) Most Mexican places cook with lard. Gross. I was craving street style tacos the other night and did not have the energy to make them myself, so I pulled up yelp and found this place. To start off they bring you chips and 2 different types of salsa. I was pleasantly surprised that the red salsa was actually pretty spicy. I ordered 2 asada and 2 barbacoa tacos. The asada was way better in my opinion. The barbacoa had more fat than meat. The platter also came with rice and beans (not terrible but not anything I'd crave again). The horchata was pretty damn good, though! I ordered the cheese enchilada for my 2 year old and he did not approve. I tried it myself and immediately felt terrible for even ordering it for him The turn off was being able to see 3 huge buckets of lard when I looked back towards the kitchen area. I realize that most Mexican restaurants use lard, but I don't want it to be the first thing I see when I walk in through the front door. Every now and then you get caught off-guard by a seemingly unassuming and nondescript restaurant that serves you an unexpected and deeply soul-satisfying meal. Taqueria La Original did just that for me only moments ago! I have been living just down the street from this taco Mecca for 3 years and didn't even realize it was there. I feel cheated! Anyway, I was out and about and I happened to notice it and thought to myself "mmmm.....Tacos....yeah....that's the ticket." So I did a U-turn and in I went. The place is kind of a dive. It's pretty small and has six or so rickety tables and an old TV hanging from the ceiling locked onto a Mexican soap opera channel. It was LOVELY! I was greeted in short order and handed a menu. I found the tacos and they had several types. Now mind you, these aren't "regular" tacos. These are the street food type. The real deal. The filling is on 2- 4" diameter corn tortillas. You get 4 to an order and I got 2 tacos al pastor and 2 carnitas. The sauces are red or green. The chips were fresh and hot. Nice and thick too. I think they make them there. The green sauce was vibrant and it hit you immediately with fresh jalapeno. The red was very earthy up front followed by the smokiness of a tiny amount of chipotle peppers. Then BAM...heat! Very nice. The tacos came out quickly and I was excited. They are served with rice and beans. The rice wasn't noteworthy but the beans were lovely. The tacos al pastor transcend delicious entering into the sublime. I nearly wept! The flavors were almost too much to cope with. The freshness of the lime and cilantro contrasted the rich, earthy, almost buttery magic coming from whatever the spices are that were on that meat. I was in sheer ecstasy. I couldn't stop eating long enough to try and figure out the spices. Nor did I want to. The meat was incredibly tender and had a wonderfully soft texture. Amazing! I quickly realized what a horrible error I had made by not getting all 4 as al pastor. The poor carnitas tacos that followed could have stood up, done a jig and slipped me a $50 and it still would have failed against the pastor. Don't get me wrong, it was still good, just not as. I know what you're probably thinking... "This guy's gone batty! It's just a little dive!" Well, it is a dive and that's precisely why I was caught so off guard. I'm not sure about the rest of the food; it may all be awful, but one thing's for sure those tacos al pastor are simply amazing. Now that I know of the place, I'll be back often. This place has been stirring my curiousity, but I finally decided to give it a try and I am glad I did. It is located in a small strip mall on Cooper, just north of Pioneer Parkway. All I can say is that the food rocks. I recently tried the caldo de res which was awesome and authentic. For $8.00 you get a huge bowl of caldo which can feed two people and corn tortillas. The caldo had huge chunks of tender beef, cabbage, corn, carrots - a perfect meal for a cold day. I also tried the torta de milanesa which was also very good. It was a huge grilled sandwich with lightly breaded beef, avocado, mexican cheese, tomato, jalapeno, mexican cream and was served with a large side of fries and two types of salsas. Total bill for these two hearty meals was $14.00. I can't wait to go back and try some of their other offerings. The waitress did tell me that their tacos al pastor do contain pineapple - finally a place in Arlington that does recognize that authentic tacos al pastor do have pineapple. read more

Something I had bookmarked was closed, this was the closest other bookmarked place and I wanted to try something different so in I went. Glad I did, this is the best of the taqueria places I've tried. Not the biggest sit down area, but there's about ten tables total, including two 6-8 person tables in the middle. Seat yourself, they brought out a red and green salsa with chips. Folks, I'm not a green/verde salsa lover. Usually I try them and then just ignore them. This place has great salsa verde. Tastes really fresh, good avocado flavor with a little kick to it. The red salsa is very good, the spicy kick it has is a little hotter, but neither have the "lingering madness" heat, so it's all good, for me anyway. Didn't notice any lunch specials, and I didn't ask, so I ended up getting the beef tips in red sauce. Came out shortly, with rice and beans. Dark red sauce, also seemed a little thick for my tastes, but it was very good, wasn't over spiced or too heavy. Took a few bites to get to know it, but after that, pretty well wolfed it all down. It was a large serving too, beef tips were tender enough you could cut them with a fork, good stuff. I see where someone mentioned their beef tips were fatty. I had ONE piece that was fatty, that was it, and only being there was one piece, I'd say that was being more than careful when it was prepared. No complaints there, I've had worse beef meals at places way more expensive. Not greasy, nothing bad here. Beans and rice were good, basic tex mexxy types. Price was about $11+ plus tip. Not bad considering prices nowadays. Loved the salsa, loved the food. Service was good. I will be back. Kinda glad the other place was closed that day. read more

Found on yelp so gave it a try. Wow my new breakfast place. The huevos rancheros were perfect. Eggs cooked to perfection. Beans are always the deal maker or breaker. My wife and I both agreed, they were delicious. Chicken flautas tasted just as if I was in Acuña. We now now where to come for the real food. read more

Found this place looking for tacos & gorditas. Walked in and I was greeted immediately. We ordered 4 tacos to go at a good price. The food was ready quickly and smelled so good we ate in the car. The tacos were delicious. I loved their tortillas and the meat was juicy. The red sauce had a good flavor and I needed a drink right after lol. I went right back the next day to try more tacos and add a Gordita and it was perfect. I've found my new restaurant. I had to stop myself from going back today to try the pozole but it's still early so I can't guarantee it. read more

I've been here multiple times, always a good meal. I love the salsa verde, it's addictive. The salsas are on the warm side so I would recommend getting a horchata to drink if you can't handle the heat. They have multiple meat choices for the street tacos, I really like the barbacoa best. La Original is a dream come true. After relocating to D/FW from NYC, I was disappointed with the taco offerings in North Texas. Most of what I tried was Tex-Mex--and disheartening. Then I tried this small restaurant. It was a little bit of home, taking me back to life in Sunset Park. Simple tacos is what this shop traffics in--one filling garnished with onions and cilantro and wrapped in two corn tortillas. The carnitas, pastor and lengua are tops. Yummy place! I always admire places who bring out chips and salsa while you wait. Tacos were delicious as well. I ordered pastor tacos and my boyfriend ordered 2 barbacoa and 2 pastor. Your taco plate comes with 4 tacos! I have never seen a taco place do that before. My boyfriend's food came out wrong and the server offered to make him his correct plate and he kindly said no because it was all delicious anyway. Great service! I would say this place is pretty good overall. The way the food is prepared, it's like you're eating in Old Mexico. Its very real authentic real Mexican food. No doubt about it.. The rice and beans are. The tacos are served in very soft tortillas just like they do in Old Mexico. They flavor the beef with really good spices and herbs. Its very reasonably priced here. The only real so so experience that I had, was when I called to ask them how late they were open. The one that answered the phone obviously could not speak English at all. They just put down the phone and never came back to get somebody that could answer my question. I guess it scared them or something or they were very shy about it when they realized it was not a Spanish speaking person at all. I don't know. Overall a really good place to go. Its very small inside though. I'd go back sometime. Look for it in a very small parking lot. You really have to pay attention to where it is or you will miss it for sure. It needs to draw more attention to itself so others will see how great it is like more lit up for example even though I know it would cost more just to do that to advertise more or less.
