I would say that my first experience here was worthy of a second visit. One of those places that I have seen passing by on the road and wondered what it was like. Walking in, is a trip back to the hole in the wall style restaurants out of "desperado", the movie, and the first thing you notice isn't the view, but the music. It's like you're welcomed by the band themselves of whoever is on the speakers. Ambiance overall was very welcoming and the staff there is super attentive to your needs. It is a seat yourself kinda place and that's exactly what I did. A lot of people also came in to pick up food to go, which also is a good omen for what I was about to expect as far as the quality of the food... as yes, the food: Indeed I wasn't wrong about the omen... I ordered the chicken caldo, and it had an excellent broth base. Then came the lemon for me, a bit of their homemade green salsa, because it was spicy, can't do spicy well... and it hit great. Hearty veggies, and huge pieces of chicken. Accompanied by homemade corn tortillas, a small bowl of rice and a cup of hibiscus leaf juice (agua de Jamaica) it all was a meal worthy of a king. I left a very happy camper. Not hungry for almost the whole day and didn't have anything better to eat for the rest of the day. Super satisfying and filling. I'm looking forward to the next visit to try something else. But I'm sure I won't be disappointed with the next visit. My stomach's growling just talking about this place. Haha. THANKS! read more

Food was great, we ordered, torta de lomo, good portion and tasty, they are thin slices of pork that is marinated but stacked very filling and delicious. Haurache de asada was very tasty with their own house salsa, big portion to eat by yourself wife and I shared. Taco de lengua on tortilla de harina was delicious, generous portion. The ambiance: Owners are due hard futbol liga Mx Fan's several different team's are painted on wall, with futbol on both TVs. They are friendly and accommodating. Just like the rest of the reviews describe this place, a hole in the wall. The esthetics may not be an important aspect for the owner but they sure make up for it with the food. The salsa here is as amazing! One of the best salsas I've had. I got a sope, taco and my husband got the huarache which were all excellent! Incredible flavor and execution on every single item. The Jamaica was fresh and tangy, versus artificial and super sweet. The ceviche tostada was so refreshing and had perfectly diced cucumbers as a part of the mix. The asada and pastor street tacos were insanely delicious. The tortillas were slightly toasted and the onions also perfectly diced. The meat was flavorful and moist/the salsas were fantastic. The place just didn't do it for me. The initial offering of chips and salsa was some of the worst I've had. Really. The chips tasted not only days old, but deep fried at least three times over. The salsa, or hot sauce was of the watery red variety. Dishes included a variety of tacos that were fair but not overwhelmingly good. Beans were ok, but the rice was again old. Service was good, as he obliged our request for a significantly better salsa to try, and he offered a sample of a variety of meat called tinga that we had not experienced before. The bottled soda that we ordered was really big, and decent value for the price. All in all, I probably wouldn't go back, although I did like the feel of the out of way, dusty road feel to the area. read more

YES! This is a divey little joint on Indio Blvd that looks run down from the outside and has a battered parking lot that was not very welcoming. Because of the exterior, I have driven by this place too many times to count, but I finally decided to give them a shot, mostly because there are cars there all the time. They are open 8 to 8 and it seems like people are always in there. As we parked we noticed all the signs in the parking lot were only in Spanish, and a sign pointing to use the door around the corner was only in Spanish. We walked in the door and were immediately warmly welcomed by a woman at the front counter and a man who we later learned was the owner. He apologized that he did not have any English menus and I told him that was not a problem. Once we were seated a waiter came and quickly took our drink orders and dropped off a plate of chips with beans and cheese. These were a nice change from the chips and salsa that most places serve. We ordered an assortment of tacos that included carnitas, pescado, chorizo, al pastor, cabeza and tinga. The tacos were mid sized and fairly priced at $1.80 each. They were almost overloaded with fillings,but the toppings were perfectly proportioned. I asked if I could get some hot salsa and the waiter brought me a very spicy and incredibly flavorful salsa. The salsa alone is worth the trip. The tortillas were flavorful and incredibly fresh. They are made in house every day. Again, the tortillas are worth the trip. The tacos were hard to rank because they were so good, but I would say they fall into rank as follows: 1) Tinga - A slowly braised beef taco that is cooked with tomato, garlic, adobo and spicy chipotle peppers. This was sweet, smokey, spicy and the meat was incredibly tender. 2) Chroizo - Made in house. An incredible depth of flavor with a nice touch of heat. 3) Al Pastor - Again, very flavorful with a nice texture and a touch of fruit flavor. 4) Carnitas - Tender, flavorful and a touch of crispiness. 5) Cabeza - very tasty, not gamey or greasy at all. 6) Pescado - The fish was very fresh and tasty. The batter was crisp and not too thick. The taco was not greasy. My only complaint is the sauce was almost a little too overpowering. Three tacos were perfect for a lunch for me. The two of us ate for less than 13 dollars including tax. I will gladly be back. read more

This place is located right off Indio Blvd. It's a little hole in the wall dive, but a gem if you come across it! Customer service is great. They're very friendly and welcoming. I loved the music. Think it was a pandora station. I can't remember what the station was called! The food was on point. I had a huarache. If you aren't familiar with it, it's... well... for a lack of better American description, it would be considered a "taco boat". it's shaped like the sole of a sandal... hence "huarache". It's so delicious and you should try it! Overall, it's a great place to eat... whether you are on a quick lunch break, after church chow down, dinner date (unless you're with a "bourgie" date) or an evening boozer. AMAZING family owned restaurant! Little hole in the wall but believe me it does not disappoint! Walking in and seeing the lady in the kitchen knew it was going to be delish! I had the asada Huarache and my fiancé had the chicken Huarache. They have 8inches & 12 inches, we both got the 12inches. Asada was super tender , which is hard to find now and days. The chicken was full of flavor! Not to mention the salsas! We got 3 different ones. One red with the chips, one green and red with the food. Definitely will be back to try their birria , love it bc they have chivo (goat) which I think is the most delish and haven't found a restaurant out here that has goat birria. read more

I honestly do not understand how this restaurant has 4.5 stars. The chips and salsa were inedible for starters. Both the chips and salsa seemed old and the salsa needed quite some salt. The waiter seemed rushed even though there was about 3 small parties with less than 4 people. I ordered sopes and the chicken was well seasoned but seemed old. I gave it 3 stars because the sopes and the huarache tortilla/corn base were made from scratch which many restaurants don't do. My husband and i have been going here for over 11 years and they never disappoint everything is so delicious it's authentic Mexican food it's a family run restaurant they are all so sweet, and love the fact that they remember they clientele! Very good tacos at $1.99 with plenty of meat on two corn tortillas. Lengua tacos are $2.25 but it doesn't state that on the menu. Agua de horchata was perfect! My order was to-go so i can't say much about the chips but the salsitas they gave me for the tacos were yummy! read more

Tried for the first time passing thru Indio. We were very disappointed. The fish taco's were flavorless. The shrimp taco was better but nothing to rave about. The Carne Asada quesadilla was the worst. This was not marinated carne. It taste like some beef tossed on the grill barely salted and served. I won't visit the place ever again. read more

The food was excellent! I'll give it a four plus! I was told by a friend to go try the Tinga Tacos. I had the Tinga on a Guaracha, which was a oblong homemade tortilla with beans, the meat, lettuce and cheese. The Tinga was delicious! It was tender shredded beef that was spicy, tender; it was really tasty. My friends had tacos. The tacos had a good portion of meat. They tried the Tinga, Cabesa and Lengua and really enjoyed them. Then I had another taco, the Al Pastor, while they had some Mexican pastries for desert. The Al Pastor was tender and tasty too! The salsas were homemade and really good. They have Chili Rellenos on the menu, one of my favorites. I'll be heading back to try those. The couple that own it told my friend that speaks Spanish that he they had been there for eight years. They were friendly and nice! They speak enough English that they could explain things and we felt comfortable. Make your way there. It's a simple little Taqueria in a strip center.
