On the way home from Mendocino this weekend we were hungry for an early dinner. On a Sunday, there are not many places open. We checked out a few and ended up eating at Taqueria Bravo. There were some stoned kids filling the place with loud conversation. We got the full Local Flavor treatment at this place. I ordered the carnitas regular burrito. Almost immediately I wished that I had ordered the super because it was just too dry. I drenched it in the left over salsa that came with the free chips and my husband gave me some of his sour cream and guacamole. All of those additions helped. The carnitas was really good. I just wish the beans were more equally distributed. I would eat here again but ask for sour cream added to my regular burrito. read more

I have only ordered a "To Go' meal from here, however I was expecting far larger portions considering the prices they were charging. Their Super Burrito was not exactly 'Super' in the slightest, being about the size of a standard burrito from any other Mexican restaurant in town and lacking all of the spice and flavor you would expect from 'authentic' Mexican food. Considering this is the only time I have ever eaten there I do not have other experiences to compare it to. Came here on our way to Eureka, California. They were super busy right after we arrived but we were still served in a timely matter and our food was nice and hot when it came out. We also got complimentary chips and salsa which was unexpected because its such a small place, the salsa was very good also. Let me begin by saying that I eat pork, like, waaay more than you do. I'm not trying to sound proud or egotistical about it. It's just a fact. I eat a lot more pigs than you do. Now that that is established I can begin to expound upon the glorious perfection that is Taqueria Bravo's carnitas. Crisp, moist, tender, chewy charred bits, this pork has it all. I ordered their nachos with carnitas once on a lark and never looked back. This is the carnitas that as my ladyfriend and I travel the country, eating tacos everywhere we go, compare all other carnitas to as our gold standard. While in Willits, I volunteered at an event space about a half hour out of town, but I would make the trek into town maybe three or four times a week just to get a face full of carnitas nachos. Also, my ladyfriend doesn't like guacamole so we would always order it on the side. I'm used to east coast guacamole portions where an extra tablespoon will cost you $4, but at Taqueria Bravo we would get about a half pound of guac at no extra charge. I will concede that service is unusually slow, but I really couldn't care less once the food arrives. As out of the way as Willits is, Taqueria Bravo is worth the miles. read more
