Grilled Shrimp Tostada Bites Half Order
    Chris L.

Even though I'm giving this visit a 3-star review, I'll keep coming back...**The grilled shrimp tostada bites are just THAT good.** The beet and Gorgonzola taco with carne asada was delicious as well. Service: the host was kind enough to check on dessert availability before seating us and we were greeted and seated right away. Our server was kind and tried to include my daughters in conversation by asking them about what they had bought at Claire's (the location is connected to the mall.) The dessert and price weren't as impressive. Price: I love the tacos and creative menu, but $12 for two tacos is steep especially considering you can get superior tacos for $3-4. It would add more value if you were able to mix and match, so come with a group of you want to try a variety. Dessert: My daughters love churros. Before being seated, we asked if they had the churros (we've been disappointed before lol). They were kind enough to check. My daughters took one bite and then weren't interested. I thought they were being picky, so I took a bite. The churro was hard, dry, and brittle.

We went to Taqueria 27 for a late lunch. It was quiet as it was a weekday and the service was great! We had the guac sampler (very good - 4 options: 3 guac and 1 salsa). Two of us had the carne asada enchiladas. 3 good sized enchiladas, rice and beans. My friend had the pork chile verde enchiladas. All very good. The best part of the visit... the spicy honeydew margaritas!

This was my first time eating at this location. Possibly this restaurant all together, since I don't usually like authentic Mexican food. But this is where my son wanted to go for his birthday dinner. So we met after work. His birthday was on a Monday so unfortunately, their restaurant closes at 8 o'clock. We did not get there till 715. And my son did not get there till 730. So we have even less time to eat. But we had already ordered an appetizer and we're enjoying that while we waited. Our server was very friendly and attentive. He never made us feel rushed, but we could tell he was trying to clean up so he could go home. We all enjoyed our meals, and I will probably come back. The guacamole with street corn mixed in it was delightful! And my fajita was pretty good as well. I was pleasantly surprised.

Food was pretty average but definitely overpriced $70 for some dry fries, three tiny enchiladas and an order of fajitas. Moreso, what stood out to me was the service. Took 15 minutes for our server to approach us, had to retake our order, forgot our drinks and brought out the appetizer when our main entrees were ready too. Took another 15 mins of waiting till we got the check. The machine was broken so he took our card into the back with him which was pretty odd and got other tables drinks before coming back with our card in his pocket. Seemed annoyed when i asked for straws. Overall, just wasnt a comfortable experience and we wont be returning.

Their duck confit tacos are my absolute favorite! The crispy leek strings just elevate them to a whole different level. I decided to try something new and I was not disappointed. I got their taco of the day and I can't remember what they called it, but it had carne asada meat with French fries and a spicy aioli. The French fries sold me and these were so good! I normally prefer tacos with corn tortillas, but wow these were just so tasty! The aioli had good spice and the fries weren't crispy, but not soggy either. The Chile - Citrus Carnitas tacos were okay. They had good flavor but were a bit dry. The salsa helped! The roasted guacamole tasted a lot like avocado toast with the balsamic reduction. We'll stick with the traditional next time. Service was quick and we were in and out in less than an hour. Place was clean and all the windows allow great natural light.

The service is always stellar and this location is not as busy as the other one, which is amazing to me! Tacos are always a win!

Verde salsa spilled in to go bag

First off, I find it so weird that a Mexican restaurant charges for chips and salsa. Beyond that, I ordered my food yesterday and they didn't give me all of the salsa I ordered plus what they did give me spilled in the bag. The bag of chips was soggy from this and there was a huge mess to clean up.

There are different kinds of tacos in this world-some are messy and full of so many ingredients you can't name them all. And then there are the more compact, tidy tacos. Those are the ones that I prefer-where I can identify what's inside. And the taco I had was darn near perfection. This is a fantastic restaurant-tacked on to the side of the mall, but so much better than traditional "mall food." I'd highly recommend visiting.

Wasn't too impressed with this restaurant. I w been to other Taqueria 27 and this is my least favorite. The service was extremely slow and the food wasn't very good. I understand we're still living in COVID times, and there's a staff shortage, but to wait 40 minutes for food is a little ridiculous. Couple of my friends ordered the pork Chile verde tacos. One of them came out looking decent while the other was soaked. It looked like it was previously frozen then thawed on the plate.

    Carne Asada tacos

Tacqueria 27 takes your standard taco menu and spices it up with unique toppings and salsas. For instance, the carne asada taco with fries and chimichurri is a favorite of mine, and the chipotle duck and grilled pear tacos both sound intriguing as well. This location has a small outdoor patio dining section in addition to the main indoor seating area. Everything was clean, and the time between ordering and receiving the food was pretty standard (though the kitchen made one dish incorrectly for our table). I'd recommend it as a good spot around the Fashion Place Mall area, though it wouldn't be one of my go-to options in the Salt Lake area for tacos.

Server was very friendly and helpful. If you get the tacos keep in mind that two come with each order, really the perfect way to split different flavors with your partner. What we got: T27 Classic Sampler - 5* worth it. Glad for the overall experience and let me rank how I liked the 4 samples: Guacamole - 4.5* we got the special and it had balsamic vinegar, pear, and blue cheese (I think, I'm writing this in retrospect). It was such a burst of flavor and a pure joy to consume. Mild salsa - 4* we were too scared to try the hot spicy but maybe next time, this mild one wasn't bad at all! Queso fundido - 5* and more. I'd definitely get this one it's own next time like my friend did because I could've had more. JR's street corn - 4*. I'm glad it didn't come on a cob (not a huge corn on the cob fan). This also made it easier to share with the table and fun to scoop up with the chips. Achiote Marinated Fried Chicken Breast - 3* average fare, nothing exceptional. Grilled Pears and Roasted Beets - 4* surprisingly good. I loved the pears and the beets weren't overpowering. I'm also a huge fan of balsamic which they use in their sauce. Chile-Citrus Carnitas - 3* average fare, nothing exceptional. P.B.L.T.A. - 5* my favourite of them all. The pork belly was fantastic and I also love the sauce they had with it.

    Duck Confit Tacos

First time here and did not really know why to expect. I was able to try out their sampler platter which has queso, corn, salsa and guac. I loved that they had multiple kinds of guac available. We ended up ordering the gauc of the day which had some pineapple in it and it was delicious. The salsa we ordered was spicy option. I personally didn't think it was spicy at all, it had more of a mole' flavor to it if anything. Still good in a different way. I ended up ordering fish tacos if the day- mine happened to be salmon which I ordered fried. I've never had fried salmon before. It was pretty good, I wish they added more sauce on the taco because it ended up being a little dry. My husband got the duck confit tacos which had roasted corn and grilled green onions those tacos were pretty tasty. I think if I ever come here I'll have to try the other tacos! Food was about a 7/10 I think tacos were a little too dry for me and salsa needed a little more flavor. Definitely will have to try something else when I come again. Service and cleanliness 10/10 our server Josh was very friendly and food came out quickly!

I want to come work here! The food was really good, and really expensive! Our bill was $145 for the two of us. Our server Jaxson was really knowledgeable on the menu, and really friendly. I don't think there's a bad seat in the house as all the burlesque dancers move around the space. Be prepared with some ones to tip them, but they also take Venmo. I'd love to come back!

Our server was funny, personable, and attentive, especially when it came to drinks and refills. Things started going downhill when I received my entree, the Poor Man's Truffle. Unfortunately, the only way this dish lived up to its name was in how little the supposedly high-quality ingredients seemed to come through. The dish itself is fairly simple, which normally isn't a bad thing when the ingredients are meant to speak for themselves. With Belper Knolle, truffle oil, pistachio pesto, tomato, fennel, and arugula, I expected something flavorful and well balanced. Instead, the entire dish tasted incredibly mild. Belper Knolle is typically a bold, salty, peppery cheese, and I could visibly see the black pepper around the edges of the thin shavings, but the flavor barely registered. I also couldn't taste the truffle oil at all. There was visible oil pooling at the bottom of the plate, but no noticeable truffle flavor. I understand pistachio pesto tends to be more subtle than a traditional basil pesto, but altogether, this dish just fell completely flat for me. The presentation didn't help either. It looked more like something that had been scooped from a pan and dropped onto the plate than a thoughtfully plated entree. When a dish misses both on flavor and presentation, that's when it becomes a real disappointment for me. I will say the gnocchi itself was cooked well, which was one of the few positives. I also tried the burger, and it was significantly better than my pasta. However, the very small sprinkle of bacon was a little baffling considering it was an additional upcharge. Where the night really went downhill was at the end of the meal. I had been excited to try the beignets because that isn't a dessert I see on menus very often. Our entree plates were cleared, and then we waited about 20 minutes before our server returned and asked whether we were ready for the check. Dessert wasn't mentioned, and by that point our table was tired of waiting, so we decided to skip it and asked for our checks. Then our server disappeared for another 30 minutes. We eventually had to flag down a hostess who was seating another table and let her know that we were still waiting for the check. About five minutes later, our server finally returned and casually explained how "crazy" the night had gotten because of the show. I understand restaurants get busy, but the apology felt very dismissive after we had waited nearly an hour from finishing our entrees to finally receiving the check. It genuinely felt like our table had simply been forgotten. I also want to add that I tend to hold restaurants like this to a higher standard. I'm a big believer in "you get what you pay for." If I'm eating at a fast-food spot or somewhere inexpensive and casual, there's only so much room to complain. But when a restaurant has prices like this, highlights premium ingredients on the menu, and presents itself as a more elevated dining experience, I think that naturally opens the food and service up to more criticism. At that price point, I expect the quality, presentation, and overall experience to reflect what I'm paying for. My final takeaway is that maybe I ordered the wrong dish. Pesto is one of my favorite things, so I almost always want to give a pesto-based dish a try. Unfortunately, Prohibition's pesto gnocchi was not it for me. I also saw that they describe themselves as a scratch kitchen using high-quality, locally sourced ingredients, which I don't necessarily doubt. What confused me was how so many ingredients that should have distinct flavors somehow tasted like almost nothing. If your goal is interesting drinks and a fun show, this is probably still a place worth considering. Since we sat outside, I can't speak on the show part, but it seems to be a big hit. Food-wise, though, it missed the mark for me.

What else could anyone want? My boyfriend and I frequently come in for karaoke. They do karaoke Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday. The karaoke DJs are really great and if you're new, they always go out of their way to get you in the line up fast. So don't hesitate to sign up if you see a big list! For all you know, it's the same regulars that have filled the whole list but the DJ would love to get a fresh face on the stage and you will most surely get bumped up the list. One of the benefits of having a real karaoke DJ and not using one of the online services. They're doing more and more poker tournaments. I want to say that it's Sunday but honestly, I would call and ask about it if you're interested because it seems like they add a new poker tournament every week. Wednesday night, they do $1 wings. You can split the wings among different flavors. It's a great night to come for a cheap meal. Also the draft steins are super cheap. I can't remember the actual price but they're less than $10, I want to say they're $7 or something. If you're looking for high point beer, I wouldn't go off the menu. I would ask the bartender what they have in stock. It frequently changes and its hard to keep the paper menu updated. I have literally never had a bad meal here. So it's a great value if you're in the area and just looking for some affordable bar food. They also have a really great brunch which I feel like is super underrated. I usually do their avocado toast and a beer. My only complaint? The pool table. Yes they have a pool table but it was such an after thought, you can barely make a shot because there's so many things in the way and the floor is uneven. I'm not a pool shark or anything so it's fine to me but I could see how a regular pool player might get annoyed. Honestly I feel like it's more entertaining to play on this comically arranged pool table. I've played pool in way smaller rooms with fewer impediments, lol. I thought long and hard about whether this place should be classified as a dive bar, and honestly, the quality of the menu makes me think it's not. I have never been to a dive bar with a vegan menu. I could see how walking in you might get that impression but they don't tolerate too much rowdiness. In fact, my loud friend who tends to yell when he drinks because he's been to too many metal shows and is hard of hearing couldn't get in. The bouncer said he was too drunk. They have a school pretty close by so the bouncers are pretty discerning. That said, this is one of the few bars where I feel really safe as a woman, and trust me, it's filled with thirsty guys who will happily pick you up.

They had lots of "bar" games like pool, darts, etc. And later the same night there was karaoke. What I did like is that they didn't have a problem splitting up the check for our table. They took our credit cards up front so they could keep a tab for each of us. However, the person who took our information and the person who took are order were not the same people. That in itself wasn't a problem, but when we went to order our actual food they could only find the information for one person in our party despite taking the credit card info for 3 of us. I am not really sure what the others in my group ordered, but I do know that I did NOT like what I ordered. First, it said on their Facebook page that the Wagyu burger was on special for the night, but they did not honor that. So, I decided on the rosemary garlic burger instead with a sub of onion rings instead of fries. Now... the burger looks delicious in the photo and it was juicy and the veggies nice and fresh. However, it did not taste good. It was an overwhelming flavor of rosemary and raw garlic and I did not enjoy it at all. Plus, my onion rings were burnt. Even my kiddo at home who eats most everything did not like this burger. My daughter ordered the Alamo brownie for dessert and it was supposed to come with caramel, chocolate sauce, and ice cream, but hers only came with chocolate sauce. The server may have been new and she said it came with a choice of one of those things and not all three. $10 for a brownie with chocolate sauce was robbery! The long and short of it, collectively we did not enjoy the food here and do not plan to come back again. There are too many other good bars with good food to waste our time and money here.
