The best tacos and great value! No frills place, you now order at the tablet. Tacos are $1.50 each and quesadillas are around $6. You choose your meat and the toppings and your other is ready in a few minutes. The employees don't seem to speak much English if at all but they seem very friendly. The restaurant has just a few tables so it looks like most people order to go. The tacos are street taco size but full of meat and toppings and of course flavor. Great place to go for a delicious, quick bite!

This place has high reviews and I think it's misleading. Thursday night and this place is not busy. Usually an indication. Decided to give them a chance. Got an asada burrito. It isn't as big compared to other Mexican places. But it is also less expensive. Because they're not busy, the ingredients aren't really as fresh as you'd want. Rice was dished out from a plastic bag. Beans from a plastic container. Doesn't appear that they would be hot. Only the asada looked like it would be hot from the metal container. There was a dead fly in the pineapple container. Pineapple and juice definitely from a can. Told the worker and she threw it away. The place was really warm. No A/C. Just a fan at the door with the door opened. Ended up eating the burrito. Hope I don't get sick or have the runs later. Was it worth the risk? IDK. Go back? Likely not. I'll stick to Real Taqueria. Didn't go there cus it was late and they were closing.

I have been going to the taco cart downtown for many years now, so I was excited to see they were coming in as a small restaurant. Tacos Don Rafa really does have the best street tacos! The restaurant is pretty small, there is only about 4-5 places to sit. You order your food and they make it right as you order, so it's just like the ordering process at the taco cart. I of course had to get the street tacos with carne asada. They really are the best! Unfortunately these tacos were a lot more oily than the ones at the taco cart. The salsa also had a different flavor than the one at the taco cart. I also noticed that the prices are a little more than the prices at the taco cart but it totally makes sense being that this is a restaurant. The taco cart and this restaurant are the same distance for me, so I'll probably just stick with going to the taco cart. I hope this restaurant does well, I'm really happy for them! You should just come by and give them a chance for yourself!

I have walked past this place several times now so tonight I decided it was time to give this cute little place a shot. And I am glad I did. I walked in just before closing time and the staff was friendly and made suggestions since they could tell I had no idea what to order. I heard the words "chorizo burrito" I was hooked. I got it to go and enjoyed it when I arrived home. It was gigantic, fresh, and full of flavor. I can't wait to go back and try the other options. Go hungry, or plan on taking leftovers home. And the prices are very reasonable. Well done Tacos Don Rafa!

Kudos to this place for keeping prices low! $2 per taco! Asada is still my favorite. I ordered delivery. Loved how they pack taco bar items on top and provided one lime per taco (how it should be!). These tasted great, even though I ate them 45 minutes after they were made. I can only imagine how fresh and delicious they are when dining in!

Probably the best Mexican food in the state of Utah. Whether you go to the downtown stand location or the new Millcreek brick & mortar spot, it's all delicious. I've tried almost everything on the menu now and nothing disappoints. Pastor, asada, and chicken (on the right day, can be a touch dry sometimes) are the favorites for me. Usually get tacos but you can't go wrong with a burrito or quesadilla (try a pastor quesadilla). The pico is fresh and tasty and the hot red salsa might be the best I've ever tried. Unbelievably good, first time I ate here was a religious experience. Service is quick, friendly, and helps keep my very limited Spanish skills sharp. Eat here. It's a local small business that's become a staple of Salt Lake City for very good reason.

I was pleasantly surprised by the decor inside, they have spent a great deal for this location. I ordered chips and salsa to start. These were not complimentary but when they arrived the salsa was fresh and unique. I was glad I ordered them. My wife chose the carne asada burrito. She raved about the flavor and could only finish half. I ordered a unique taco which had an authentic name this gringo cannot remember but it was built on a house made corn tortilla about twenty inches long and ten inches wide. Steak, Mexican cream, tomatillo sauce, freshly shredded lettuce and cheese. I've never had anything like it but it is awesome. The service was quick and efficient. Very delightful people. The check had included a 15% Service Charge so I was glad to see the options on the screen to add a tip began at a level that matched up with the service charge at a reasonable level. I only had one complaint, The music was a little loud. The sound system is great and I loved the authentic music but the baseline was pumping loud enough to hurt my ears. I'd recommend adjusting the volume or the mix to make it a little more comfortable. Overall I loved this experience and will definitely want to come again. No pictures, sorry.

Smothered inside and out with their very fine green chili. The tortillas seem homemade, it was fresh and good. My wife had the carne asada burrito. I got a bite of it and the beef is delicious! Such good flavors. I also had the pinto beans and rice, both are very good. The horchata, made with almond milk, was creamy and just the right amount of cinnamon and sweet. They serve flour and corn tortilla chips with three salsas. The chips were excellent. The flour chips are deep fried, really good. The red salsa was the hottest but not bad for heat. The green was good. Now the crema sauce was my favorite, it is really excellent. Nice restaurant, comfortable chairs, nice decor that goes along with their theme. Looks like a comfortable bar. Service was friendly and accommodating. I would like to eat here again and take advantage of the FB coupon for their tacos. Highly recommended! 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. The environment is bright, inviting and not too noisy. We booked a table but some of our party was late. Portions large enough that leftovers were inevitable. Quedadillas. Chile Colorado, Mole Chicken Enchiladas, and Burritos Dorados, which have Chile Colorado inside. Their entree was replaced with another, with no fuss. I had the mole chicken, the first time I've had it here, as Chile Colorado is my favorite. I like that they have options for salsa since my husband and I have different preferences for spice level. For drinks, they have a really fun margarita menu providing a variety of margaritas as well as other drinks. They do also have a bar area with sports games on TV if that's the vibe you're looking for. I ended up just getting a Diet Pepsi. They have fountain and it was actually a really good brew even tho it was Diet Pepsi!! For food, we split the fish tacos and ceviche Acapulco. The fish tacos were amazing. I really liked the cilantro cream from the salsa bar on top of these. I would go back for these for sure!! They use mahi mahi, and it is fried. Cooked to perfection!! We didn't like the ceviche as much. The sauce had Clamato in it, which I felt like took away from the lime flavoring. It wasn't my favorite since I do prefer a strong lime flavor and chopped tomatoes, but if you like Clamato then I could see this being good. Overall, things were great! Service was prompt. They brought refills for drinks and also chips. I think the chip refill cost $1 as shown on the menu. I would def recommend trying this place!

It was called Alberto's and it was a new type described to me as molcasalsa and it was great. It was always open and you got a ton of quite excellent food. I ate there for quite a while 3 or 4 times a week and was well familiar that if I got a combination plate, I would have some left over for the next day as I could never manage to finish one. This was due to all of the food you would get, lots of meat, lettuce, cheese, refrieds, rice, and usually at least a couple of giant grill-warmed tortillas. A competitor opened up not too far away, which was called Beto's and which was substandard in every way...but it was also cheaper and ushered out Alberto's, at least that one. I think there was maybe one downtown that still hung in there. This development saddened me considerably and I had to find a new haunt, but nothing could ever quite replace the glory of those early times. Anyway, years passed and I moved to a new area, relative to a place called Hector's, which was non-assuming (I drove past it repeatedly because I didn't remember it existed) and on the other side of one of the nastiest side street gutters around. The food was quite solid, more or less what I wanted from that kind of place, but my tastes had changed and I didn't make the plunge to risk ripping the undercarriage of my car out that often. Then Hector's went away. In its former place is now Beto's and, as before, I miss Hector's. Funny, that. As to the food, I got a carne asada plate, which I find is usually the safest bet for a new Mexi (to me) joint. The rice was quite good, the beans pretty dodgy, no tortillas were a part of this, at all, it was considerably more expensive than that former Alberto's platter I mentioned earlier, and the steak is again those really thin slabs that seem all the rage at this kind of place, rather than chopped into small pieces on a hot grill, so you can get all of that Maillard effect goodness. This downgraded experience is endemic in restaurants generally and it should be neither what we want nor tolerate. I get it, they're out in those mean streets just trying to survive, but if we want to have the nice stuff again and keep it around, conditions need to exist to allow that...which means slaying the various corporate and currently highly monopolistic dragons.
