I was looking for a burrito place here in Salt Lake City area and I didn't know if there were any "real" Mexican places, you know like real like in LA or SF Mission district. I found Real Taqueria here so it must be "Real"! I GPS'ed my way over here on East Murray Holladay Road (seems like different spellings here in Utah), it's just across the street from Trader Joe's. Parking was easy. I go in and the menu is up on the wall. I order my usual Al Pastor burrito. They offer two sizes, I get the grande (big one) for about $12.50, plus some tip. Prices here aren't bad compared to a lot of places. Service is quick and friendly. The inside is a little nicer than some real hole in the wall mom and pop places, like you know, where you actually think you're IN Mexico. They have outdoor dining as well. The food is up in just a short wait. It's a good sized burrito, that's for sure. I use the hand held method to eat. I don't go for that fork and knife way on a plate. I bite off the end and see the inside. Yes, looks good and smells good as I pour some salsa in. On my first bite, I can tell, yes, this is a "real" burrito. I munch it down using salsa till I can tell, there's no way I'm gonna finish this whole thing right now. I get the rest to go. I'm glad I found this place, check it out for "real" Mexican food! Omg it's been way toooo long since we've had a meal here! The service here is awesome and the menu much larger since our last visit ! Parking still a bit limited but the food still excellent! QUESO DIP- oh man so different and so good and we love love their chips ! What a perfect combination. Tamale - corn leaf pork - served w/ their special salsa yum! I came here with a large group of coworkers right when they opened, and it quickly became clear why this place is so popular. It fills up fast, so if you plan to dine in, it's a good idea to arrive early. The restaurant itself was very clean and had plenty of seating. The food was incredibly fresh across the board. The tortilla chips were crispy with just the right amount of salt, and the tamales were perfectly moist. The meat was lean, flavorful, and well-seasoned. I also appreciated the variety of sauces and crema options, which made it easy to customize everything to your taste. The new patio is really fabulous, and we love the new house made cocktails. The nachos are way filling and love how loaded they are with different toppings. 2 things though... They have some chairs on the patio that no one likes - every time we go we ended up having a discussion with other patrons about the super low black chairs, they need to switch those out! It's like musical chairs out there to avoid the black chairs. The vegetarian tamale isn't so great, I'll be sticking with the always fabulous vegetarian burrito for now. read more

Came out for the grand opening of the dog friendly patio of Real Taqueria, and it was such a a treat for us and our pup! Everything from the service, to food was excellent, along with the vibes/layout of the patio area. We got some tacos, a quesadilla, and mole. While the carne asada tacos were good, the barbacoa quesadilla was excellent, so tender and flavorful, with a ton of spices, but the star of the show was the chicken mole! I wouldn't have considered myself a mole fan before, but this was excellent, just so well cooked with so much smoky chocolatey flavor! FOOD POISONING. Better Mexican food in Japan than this place. Employees are rude and purposely talked badly about me and my family in Spanish, not knowing I speak Spanish. They messed up our food (asked for shrimp burrito with black beans but got a burrito with rice and pinto beans three shrimp and for some reason steak and peas rolled up with the burrito ... that's cross contamination!) and laughed about it! Bad service crap food (the health department needs to look into this place). Ranchoritos is next store and far better! This place is tiny with no where to comfortably sit. Real Taqueria isn't your typical local taqueria where they're serving street tacos; their taco and burrito portions are large and fulfilling. This place very much tailors to the local demographic. We found that although the food was filling, it wasn't the typical street taco taqueria we were looking for. The al pastor and pollo asado meats were tender but not very flavorful in our opinion. We tried Real's aioli salsa at Sauce Lake City in September and were hooked immediately! We picked up tacos for take-away while my in-laws were in town over Thanksgiving week and they hit the spot for sure! We all tried their chicken tacos, my father in law tried their barbacoa, my husband tried their asada steak and tongue, and I tried their fish taco. They all came complete with carmelized onions, cilantro, lime wedges, and radish slices as well as an array of their sauces to sample. The tacos were definitely on the lighter street taco side and exactly what we were looking for. We look forward to coming back as well as dining in in the future! They also have a great promotion where you can get a discount on a jar of salsa if you return your previous jar. Saw this place based on previous Yelp reviews. Reviews are spot on. This is a seriously legit taqueria. Inside was super clean and the kitchen was busy. The Al Pastor tacos were free to flavored, and well paired w condiments. Classic taco w chicken was very tasty w fresh ingredients. The star was the tamales, moist and flavorful. I really love this place! Good food and great service. But.... the pre-tip thing has gone wrong, here and other places. Sometimes I get orders a bit wrong and sauces don't get put into the bag that were asked for. No big deal- but when you pre-tip..... you better get it right! I will always come here though! I will start by saying that I really like the food and have been stopping by since they opened. I do not know about the ambiance as I always do door dash or drive thru. The service is my issue to the point that I will not be going back. When I go through drive through they expect a large tip or they cop an attitude. Before covid no tipping anywhere at drive thru. Now I know places expect it and I always tip. One time I had forgotten my wallet and had to pay in cash and that set them off. And, even though I do not go often enough for them to recognize me they always act like their hands get caught up in their mic and they shake up my food so that by the time I get home the sauces are all open and the food is unrecognizable as separate items. Some of the best Mexican food I've had! I ordered 2 tacos, one Asada and one Al pastor. They were both amazing. Very good and very flavorful. They were good with the avocado salsa. They were filling. I ordered a horchata and it was so good and creamy. Also had a good amount of cinnamon. I ordered a kids quesadilla and a side of rice for my 2 year old daughter. She loved the rice so much. The quesadilla was huge but also good. It was good dipped in the real salsa. My brother ordered the enchiladas and the sauce on them were dang good! They also have a doggy friendly patio so we had our little dog with us and we got a doggy meal for her which is a little quesadilla. The only negative thing is the parking lot is small. We had to park by rancheritos. The line to order was long and didn't move the fastest but once I ordered the food came out within 5 minutes. I went at 7:15 on a Tuesday night and was pleasantly surprised that I easily found parking. The place was SO LOUD that I couldn't understand much of what the cashier was saying. Glad I had a friend there because I was baffled. I think she also didn't want to give straight answers about what I should order so she wouldn't be accountable if we didn't like what we got? Hard to say though. Maybe she couldn't hear me either! Because of the noise, we ate on the patio which was very nice and empty because it was a little cold. My friend and I split the nachos because of all the rave reviews here and I have to say y'all set the bar too high. They were good but not best in Utah good like so many of you said. My friend and I appreciated the toppings on every chip. You definitely have to eat with a fork because if anything there aren't enough chips for the amount of toppings. Pretty good. We got here 30 min before closing (just flew into SLC) and we were lucky enough to find this place on our way to our hotel. The staff were extremely friendly, helpful, and kind. Their nachos were pretty amazing (and I think what they're known for) and I highly recommend them as they're packed with beans, rice, veggies, guacamole, and other wonderful toppings including your choice of meat. Their burrito was also delicious. The chicken in the burritos was also very good which is a hit or miss at most places. The atmosphere was also very bright, colorful, and, fun. But I have a much greater appreciation for this restaurant when I came inside to sit down and eat at burrito! I think this place gives Lone Star a a run for their money! (At least when comparing the Carne Asada burrito) The tortilla shells are comparable and the rice and beans are really good and fresh. If you've never tried lengua before, this is the place to try it! You can always just get the small taco with the meat in case you're not sure. I would say it's one of the best on the menu! This is a very cozy Mexican restaurant. The inside of the restaurant is themed with arches and tables under the arches. Don't want to go inside but still want yummy food? They have a drive thru. The line does get long though. The tacos is very yummy. They give you two thick tortillas with your tacos, so if you eat it fast enough and the top tortilla doesn't get soggy you can just not eat the second tortilla. But if two tortilla is too much and the top is soggy and tearing, pour the meat to the second tortilla and that would be just as great! The nachos was delicious. The only thing I would do different would be ordering it without the beans and rice. That was too much and most of the tortilla chips on the bottom got a bit soggy. These are the best shrimp tacos I have ever had. Not to mention the best shrimp I have ever had. Every time, It is fantastic! I don't know how they are so consistent! If you like seafood get the ship tacos, if you don't like seafood Get the chicken tacos. My wife doesn't like seafood, so she always orders the chicken tacos and raves about them! They are our favorite restaurant here in Utah by far! Their service is fantastic, too. They get the food out fast, and it is always hot! I really like the vibe of this place it feels like a step up from your typical fast Mexican places in salt lake (ie:Alberto's, beto's, etc). The price is about the same, the menu is a little smaller but what they do, they do really well. The nachos are big and they aren't overloaded with any one item in particular. They are balanced topping wise, my only gripe would be that they could use some chips, as I tend to have to eat the last portion with just a fork. The tacos here are great. I love that they put actually pineapple on the al pastor. It really helps balance the flavor out. I love lengua and they do it right, not over charred and the texture and flavor are spot on. The service here is great. The staff is helpful and ready to make suggestions or help you out if you are indecisive. They have really great salsa here and you can even get it to go. Our family visits Real Taqueria more often than I'll admit, but it's just so delicious and the convenience of the drive-thru makes it irresistible! Do not skip the queso. It is delicious, as are the chips. You won't regret trying the guacamole, either, and the fresh, house-made salsas are fantastic. So as a Mexican, I have to tell you let's start with this ulcer. It is extremely fresh. It is made in something we called a Molcajete. It's basically a rock and we use it to squash tomatoes, which make the salsa and I can tell this is the way the salsa is made so for that I gave them a 10 out of 10. On top of that, I got the steak burrito, which is Carne Asada. I asked for a Mole sauce on top and it came out. Absolutely delicious. I did think it was kind of weird that it had lettuce as burritos. Do not have lettuce if you're authentically Mexican, but normally that is used as a filler when I cut the burrito open, I noticed it wasn't being used as a filler which that I say, I give them a 10 out of 10. read more
