Burch Street Casitas Monthly Hotel Downtown Taos - Artwork by J. K. Lamkin in every casita

It was the perfect place to getaway and decompress. I rented Casita C for a month, but wish I…read morecould've stayed longer. Very quiet, immaculate and unpretentious, with Just the right touch of decorations to provide authentic southwestern feel. The kitchenette and cookware are very basic. The hosts were so very caring, gracious and responsive to my needs and requests My only complaint was the invasion of ants into the units, if even a crumb of food left on the floor. Also a screen on door would be nice to enjoy the fresh air. A very disoriented prairie dog "coming out of hibernation" entered my Casita through the unscreened open door; It was reluctant to leave and had to be pushed out after a 30 minutes visit! ;) Nevertheless, I'd definite stay again! Great place to launch day trips by car to explore the surrounding areas or just spend time leisurely walking to nearby Taos Plaza and parks.

Owner Nancy was so nice and obviously proud of the place when I called to make my reservation. There are four casistas, each with a full bath, seating area and full kitchen stocked with usable utensils and even a washer and dryer. Tile floors, nice adobe decor, a fireplace and a sweet little patio out back complete the comfortable large studio apartment feel. It was also private, in a lovely area and within walking distance of Taos Plaza. I needed some downtime, a quiet place to read or just be and maybe get a little writing done. It was perfect for all of those. This place is not a motel, but rather a vacation rental. So remember to play fair and clean up after yourself. Such a good deal -- you'll want to go back. I do.

Better than expected given some of the lukewarm reviews…read more First of all, liked the location just off the main road (Paseo Del Pueblo Norte/Hwy 68). And, yes, it shares a driveway with the Taos Art Museum, so you'll be scratching your head when you first arrive. Beautiful foyer and our unit (1 Bedroom) was spacious. The main living area has a dining table and mini-kitchen. There was a Murphy bed along one wall and a second bathroom, so you could use it as a 2-room unit. Our bedroom and additional bathroom provided plenty of space. We were on the first floor and had a small patio off both rooms. But, it was cold and stormy when we visited so we didn't use the outdoor space. The staff was fantastic and we were thrilled to have an early check-in after our snowy drive from Santa Fe. The resort is large, but was only partially occupied during our stay and they had several off-season construction projects going on during our visit. The pool is closed during the cold months, but the outdoor hot tub was open. It was only OK, so definitely room for improvement there. There were other indoor rec spaces (gym and pool table), but we didn't use those during our stay. They did have copies of USA Today and other tourist info. we found helpful by the front entrance. Loved the location which wasn't in the heart of downtown, but within easy walking distance of many restaurants, shops, and galleries in Taos. Sabor Real across the street was an easy breakfast spot and the grocery store, Cid's Market, was just down the road. The kitchenette was solely for heating up leftovers with no stove top or oven and only a mini-fridge, toaster, coffee machine, and microwave. Our favorite thing when we arrived was movies and popcorn. After a big storm, there was no cable TV, so we went through their HUGE binder of movies and selected a couple. My recommendation to them after our visit was to group the movies by genre since everything (horror, kids, romantic comedy, etc.) are all mixed together. On that first night, they had bags of popcorn in the reception area, but it never returned during our stay. The resort felt like a WorldMark, but probably because of the timing of our stay, we also had personal service. Some of the things in the room were oddly placed or installed backwards (door handles that lift up, and toilet rolls in odd locations), but overall things were just fine and we'd stay here again.

First two times found hairs hanging in the bathrooms. This time the upped the clean we found toenail clipping on the floor in the room plus the shower shelves were disgustingly filthy, hairs in the sink and on the back of the toilet. Also look like someone spit on the shower nozzle and it dripped on the tub. I. Actually had to wipe the room down myself and go get a vacuum to clean the floors. Capper to the night I accidentally went to the wrong door and my key card opened it. Luckily no one was in there. Owner members pay hefty prices for membership and fees only to find things like this. New surprise my son tried to get water from the kitchenette sink. Was a nice bright urine color. I have to give them props when the district manager was informed and since he was in the building stopped in and was very nice. He admitted they have a problem and are fixing the problems by replacing current management. It might be exciting to see. Just not sure I want to try the risk of a 4th experience.

Staff was smiley and kind, though not very personal. We've been to other B&Bs where the personal touches really made the stay. Our first night, we slept okay. The bed wasn't the most comfortable and was pretty creaky. The pillows are plentiful but all flat pancakes. The water pressure was sad, and it took over 30 minutes to fill above the jets in the tub so we could use it. Also, we checked everywhere for a spare roll of TP when we ran out the second night, but there was none. We also had some trouble with spiders in the tub both mornings. We were greeted at breakfast by the host (never got her name), who was sweet and friendly, but it was clear there was chaos in the kitchen. Both mornings, breakfast was delicious, but it took well over an hour to be served. The second morning it was clear they'd run out of several things, which was disappointing when watching other tables get their food and ours was different and kind of sad by comparison (even though we arrived at 9:15, 45 min before it ends). I totally understand things happen, but when you're a bed and breakfast, the bed should be comfortable and the breakfast should be available quickly and efficiently so you can go about your day. I can see why others have had such wonderful experiences here, and the property truly is gorgeous and relaxing, but overall it was more of a miss for us compared to other places we've stayed.

The rooms were fantastic, comfortable and very clean. I was fortunate enough to have stayed in 2 different rooms, one in the Hacienda (Puerta Azul) and one of the Casitas (Puerta Roja) both were excellent. The food each morning was amazing, fresh and delicious. I've already booked my next stay here and can't wait to get back.
