Coffee was great, actually better than several of the cafes in the surrounding area. Room was comfortable. We were fortunate to have gotten an upgrade which included a small refrigerator which was great for the multi day stay. We hung out in lobby and enjoyed the nightly live music. Staff was great, both at desk, in adobe bar and housekeeping/maintenance. Only bummer was that Doc Martin, the onsite restaurant was only open days we already had plans. Note for weekday stays, check that restaurants are actually open before heading out on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, even if recommended by front desk.

I had been thinking of going somewhere but didn't know where until I read the New York Times Travel…read more36 Hours in Santa Fe article and decided right then that I would go to New Mexico. That night I booked my flight, rented a car and three days later off I went. I didn't make hotel reservations because I didn't know where I was going to wind up and since I was going by myself, I just winged it. I arrived in Albuquerque got my car and drove to Taos. What should have been a two-and-a-half-hour drive turned into a six plus hour drive because I made so many stops, checking out random towns (La Cienega, NM, Ohkay Owingeh NM) along the way. The landscape between Albuquerque and Taos is beautiful with dramatic transitions from high desert mesas and arid badlands to lush river valleys and the towering Sangre de Cristo Mountains. I got to Taos and went to Taos Plaza and Taos Pueblo. I eventually got a room at The Historic Taos Inn and spent the night there. The Historic Taos Inn is a charming, cozy Southwestern vibe Inn located in the heart of Taos. My room was super cute, comfortable and nicely decorated. Since I was alone, I wasn't out at night exploring (there's not much nightlife in Taos) so I parked myself on a couch in the lobby, got caught up on some reading/writing, people watched and mapped out where I would be going the next three days. The staff were incredibly nice, offering suggestions as to points of interest. There's a restaurant/bar located on the property with a cute little outdoor patio area. I only spent a night there, but I felt safe/comfortable at the Historic Taos Inn and it was fine for what I needed. I left the next day after a morning of exploring and continued on my road trip. I would stay here again.

Here, there are separate entrances to the rooms and a common space. I am 6'8" so I need some space. LeAn and Charles were wonderful. It was fun to eat breakfast with the other guests and then head out for the day. Since I love to walk, I must have hiked down to Taos proper about ten times. The sidewalk aren't great and there is a lot of traffic out on the main drag. So, most visitors will need to drive to town unless you are a little nuts like me. Taos is a cool town and a great place to land. This B & B was a cool nest to rest my bones, eat a lovely breakfast, and then to do my thing. There are supermarkets in a walkable distance. Just have to get across the very busy highway.

This was our first experience at a B&B. I wasn't sure what to expect. American Artists Gallery…read morelies just outside of town on a dirt road that faces the mountains. It is picturesque and quiet. The B&B offers a small little cottage called the Garden Gallery that happened to also be the cheapest so we went with that. Small indeed, but it did the job. We were out an about most of the time anyway, so who needs a whole lot of space? There was a small queen bed pushed against the wall. There was a traditional kiva fire that you can burn wood in seasonally. The shower was pretty big and open. There was no tub however. I liked that there were a few windows that could be opened and allowed for fresh air. The TV worked and there was also a coffee maker and mini fridge in the cottage. Other rooms are larger and have more impressive amenities if that's your thing. They all have private outdoor entrances. There is a relaxing common area with a computer, TV, and a large selection of books and readings on local happenings. There was always fresh lemonade and ice tea avaliable as well as cookies in the common kitchen area. Outside of the large dining area is a small hot tub that wreaked of chemicals, we did not venture in! Our experience was great. The owner was so kind to us, he knew we had never done the B&B thing before. We had also never been to Taos. His knowledge of this town and surrounding areas was impressive. He helped us choose a dinner destination and also a few galleries to hit up. He also gave us some tips on things to do outside of town. He also introduced us to the resident peacock, dogs, and cats that wander on and off the grounds. The breakfast was delish! We had peach stuffed french toast that was to die for. The peaches tasted as thought they were just picked off the tree. We also had fresh squeezed juice and a variety of sides. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the B&B and will return for sure. I am curious to try more B&B's after this experience but fear that it won't compare to this. Perhaps if I could compare this to other B&B's I could give it 5 stars. You might see an update in the future! (I hope anyway)

Situated just a mile north of the Taos "hub" Hacienda del Sol is an oasis of tranquility, luxury, and hospitality. The rooms are immaculate (complete with a wood burning fireplace begging to be lit and enjoyed). The grounds are beautifully manicured with local garden decorations and plenty of Adirondack chairs for basking in the sun under Taos Mountain's shadow. You can't paint a better view. Mark and Gerd serve the most delicious of breakfasts each morning. I enjoyed the fruit cup starter with only the freshest fruits, followed by options including French toast, pancakes, biscuits and green chili gravy, cheese omelette, skillet potatoes and eggs, eggs any style, and, of course, bacon. I looked forward to waking up and joining other guests each morning to see what new delicious options we would be offered. I enjoyed the privacy of the individual hot tub times. You can sign up for 30 minute slots throughout the day, 7 days a week, to enjoy an intimate hot tub time with your party. There are some dog-friendly rooms, so bring Fido! They do have some ground rules with the dogs (cannot be left alone in rooms and no sleeping on the bed). Please be respectful guests so that they may continue their hospitality towards canine guests as well. Be sure to bring a crate if you do intend to leave for any amount of time. There are many restaurants just steps from Hacienda del Sol and the staff will be happy to make recommendations or reservations at your request. Within 30 minutes you can be at Taos Ski Valley, Rio Grande Gorge Trails (25 min drive), the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge (12 min drive), downtown (5 min drive), a grocery and liquor store (6 min walk), wine country (40 min drive), and Santa Fe (1hr30 drive). Simply put, we had the most magical experience and cannot wait to make Taos and Hacienda Del Sol an annual vacation spot.

What a quaint bed & breakfast. The grounds and setting are beautiful…read more We arrived in Taos when it was dark. The B&B is directly off the busy main road of Taos. We did not see the Hacienda Del Sol sign the first time and drove past it. We had to turn around. The second time we tried to get to the B&B we turned before the sign and realized we missed it again. Finally on the 3rd try we got to the B&B. The driveway is shared by a restaurant and another B&B. The innkeepers do not live on-site so they left late arrival directions for us. Each unit has its own designated parking space. We were assigned to the El Pueblo unit. It was a room that had a kiva fireplace (which we couldn't use because of the room above us), club chair, small table that contained cups, Keurig maker, ice bucket, coffee, tea and condiments. The bed was comfy with luxury linens, a dresser and two bathrobes. The bathroom was small. Instead of travel size bath products they had full size bottles of bath products. The best part was there are french doors leading to the shared garden/lawn area where you can see the mountains. They have a good sized hot tub for your use. You have to sign up for a private one hour soak. The sign up sheet is located in the kitchen by the coffee makers. Breakfast is served in the dining area right off of the kitchen. There was a lot to choose from. There was a meat & cheese plate, rosemary bread, prosciutto egg cups, chile egg cups, fruit, bacon, baked goods, fresh squeezed OJ, coffee, assorted teas, other things of which I can't remember. There weren't too many people in the dining room so we ate in there. The second morning it was too crowded in the dining room so we ate outside even though it was chilly. We got to talk to the innkeepers Blair and Mike. We found out they had bought the inn only five months ago. They are lovely people. I wish them success with the inn. We didn't have any lodging plans for the next night so we stayed another night at Hacienda Del Sol. The El Pueblo was booked so we moved to the Rio Grande, which was only two doors away. It was more money per night than the El Pueblo but it was worth it. The Rio Grande was much bigger than El Pueblo. Even the bathroom was much bigger. The one drawback of the B&B was how dark the grounds were at night. Some of the stones in the pathway were broken or missing. All in all we enjoyed this B&B.

New Mexican design details throughout with flames in the fireplace. Got my key and placed my breakfast order. I booked the "Romantic" room (unit 1) because I'm dating myself and I deserve it. I took full advantage of the dual shower heads in the spacious shower designed for two. I loved snuggling up in one of the big lounge chairs by the fireplace. I called Aji (local Peruvian restaurant) and they delivered paella, empanadas, and the most delightful passion fruit cheesecake. My lounge chair doubled as a dining chair with the little table. Dinner by the fire was just what the doctor ordered. Comfy king size bed and lots of pillows just for me, the prettiest heated marble floors in the bathroom, a ceiling fan for white noise, and then right on time: a light knock on the door. Time for breakfast! Breakfast was divine. A beautiful frittata with wild mushrooms, spinach, and feta. What a lovely end to my stay. Thank you Zachary for making my stay a perfect, safe getaway. Notes about COVID safety: Thumbs up. Zachary sent me a text guiding me with an optional contact-free checkin. It was simple and he still found ways to make me feel welcome and taken care of. In the morning my breakfast was placed at my front door in a basket and I didn't need to sign anything. I left cash in the room for a tip.

This may be a gem as the other reviews eluded to, but we weren't gonna stick around to find out…read more We booked the bed and breakfast in advance based on pics and reviews prior to our New Mexico vacation plans. On our way in through Taos, it was blatantly obvious there is a significant drug use (meth...opiates, maybe more) issue. Just getting gasoline on the way out subjected us to no less than 8 substance abusers in various states of consciousness sitting on the curb in front of the door. The drive to Palacio De Marquesa takes you off the main road and down a small residential street. It's a very odd location and made us both audibly question ourselves and each other for where we had chosen to stay. While dodging potholes in the road, you must also be careful to dodge the obvious substance abusers walking in the middle of the street. Turning onto a dirt, driveway width, even smaller, two track style street, we arrived at the open gate of our destination. We'd be remiss not to address the "walkable area" assertions, because this is not that. Not unless you want to walk to the auto junk yard a few doors down or walk with/by the aforementioned locals. Entering the gate, we saw medium height masonry walls surrounding a sprawling site of "out buildings". There was an impression the walls were erected to keep out those we passed walking on the road and at the gas station. The facility appeared very nice, manicured and clean but definitley didn't scream...spend a night! When the other reviews cite how quiet it was, it was so quiet it was eery. You'd think you could just walk into the lobby, but you'd be wrong. Having to be personally let into the locked and secured main door of the common space office/main building just doesn't create that welcoming vibe. The young staff lady was very nice, polite, young and energetic. She welcomed us at the front door upon arrival, opening the door and inviting us in. A brief conversation with her as she verified the credit card on file. She advised us the office/main building remains locked at all times creating an even stronger sense the ownership believes there was a NEED for security. Needing a key to enter the common area of any place for rent seemed...oddly disconcerting. A man and woman, we thought were guests sat at a table not saying a word yet looking at us numerous times. It was creepy. Later, As we were led to our room, we learned the man was actually the "inn keeper" who lived on the property. His phone number was to be in the room to call if we needed anything since the office wouldn't be manned throughout our stay, and the young lady was leaving. As she walked us out of the main building, down a sidewalk to our "romance" villa, we saw a lack of vehicles in the lot, a "local" tweaker walking down the two track, and no other persons within site prompting us to ask.."are there others staying here?" She confirmed we were alone for the night. A brief tour of the well decorated and probably clean room ended with the staff member leaving. We were to be only 5 minutes after her before getting out of Dodge ourselves so we can't comment too much on the condition of the room. The best way to describe the feeling once inside the room with the thin glass door used for "security" was an overwhelming thought of this is how horror movies start. Like literally almost every horror movie. The entirety of the scenario was just so off. The creepiness of being in this place and area could make nobody feel secure and I give those who stayed long enough to write a review of the breakfast a great deal of credit. Not sure how or why they stayed to order from the "chef". Despite the aesthetics of the room and main building, there was no way we were staying there. It's a shame because obviously a large investment has been made to maintain the facility. The room was large, seemingly clean, and had a huge bathroom. It had the potential to be a multiple star type resort. There was just no way we were getting through the night so we could experience the breakfast the other reviews mention. The area is so off putting and "sketchy" it won't be able to live up to its potential. Within five minutes of our arrival, we gave the keys back to the "inn keeper" and left allowing us enough time to drive away from Taos and to a different area entirely. For the first time in decades of traveling as an adult, we left a facility and didn't think twice to run from it. For the first time ever traveling as an adult we are giving a bad review. Was it the bed and breakfast itself? Possibly..because it didn't offer the barriers needed to nullify the uneasiness. Was it the location? YES. I'd suggest booking in person instead of taking the chance if losing the advance reservation money. Perform for yourself a realGoogle maps view to see where you're staying.
