My family and I were craving for Chinese cuisine after they picked me up from the airport, coming from a long domestic trip. Apparently, Tao Yuan had some really tasty Yang Chow fried rice that my dad was a hankering for, so we decided to have dinner there. This would have been my first time at the place, and it took one very good look at the menu - at the Hainanese Chicken Rice and Cereal Prawns - to realize that it was, in fact, a Singaporean restaurant, and not Chinese. I never would have guessed from the interiors.
Now, for tonight, we were in the mood for something simple: prawn balls (which were not on the menu, like many other items, apparently, according to our server) fried rice, Sweet and Sour Pork, and some Hot and Sour Soup were enough. Granted, they did have tasty Yang Chow fried rice. It had small, sudden bursts of saltiness, which I loved. The sweet and sour pork wasn't bad, either. And although I personally found the hot and sour soup a little too sour, they were generous about the seafood in it, which I cannot fault them for.
However, the service could have been better. Although, the gentleman who served us was pleasant and accommodating, it took over half an hour, and three follow-ups with two different servers, before the kitchen was ready the prawn balls that we would have wanted as an appetizer. They came right before our buchi, and complementary almond jelly and lychee fruit cocktail, which were much appreciated. One server caused a commotion when he dropped a tray on the floor.
Overall, not a bad experience: pleasant, and the food was delicious. But I wouldn't drive all the way to Resorts World for it. read more
