Boon Tong Kee is one of the two famous Singaporean Hainanese chicken rice chains that have opened up shop here in the Metro. Its debut in Manila was overshadowed a bit by Wee Nam Kee, but I honestly feel that Boon Tong Kee's food is closer to the true spirit and taste of its Singapore equivalent. For some reason, both local chains just can't replicate the original flavor. I guess it's a mystery that will be left unsolved.
Going back to Boon Tong Kee and its merits, they aren't half-bad. Their coffee pork ribs tickle your palate like no other. And of course, let's not forget the star of the show: the chicken. You just really have to detach yourself from preconceptions of what this and that is supposed to taste like. You have to relish it for what it is and not what it should be.
