I've been meaning to write this for a while, but have been too busy. This review is for my visit on September 28th, 2025. As part of my honeymoon we went to several fine dining establishments and amongst the ones in Europe, Tantris was one of our stops. The flavor, the service and the ambiance were all there. From our first bites, all of us could tell that it would be a great meal. At the end of the dinner we got to meet with Chef Ben Chmura and to see the kitchen. It was so impressive to see how the kitchen operates for all 3 establishments(Tantris, Bar Tantris and DNA) I thoroughly enjoyed my entire experience here and I don't think there was a single dish that I didn't enjoy. What an experience. The tasting menu was flawless. Every course stood out, from the earthy depth of Sous Bois to the creative tuna "Wellington," all the way to the refreshing Prune dessert. Each dish was beautifully balanced and downright delicious. As memorable as the food was, Lily and Oscar made the evening extraordinary. Oscar, our sommelier, was both fun and deeply knowledgeable, guiding us through wine pairings that elevated every bite. I'd love to repeat all the wine wisdom he shared, but let's just say the pours were generous. Die Außen- und Innengestaltung im Stil der 1970er-Jahre aus Beton mit schwarz-roten Wänden und Decken rührt daher, dass dieses Restaurant hier seit drei Generationen erfolgreich betrieben wird. Das erklärt auch die legendäre Serie "The Clash" und ähnliche Musik im Hintergrund. Ich fand die Kellner sehr hilfsbereit, insbesondere den Sommelier. Das Amuse-Bouche auf sechs Tellern ist vielleicht etwas zu viel vor dem eigentlichen Menü. Aber der Hummerpfannkuchen und die Rotbarbe mit Sepia waren beide ausgezeichnet. Overrated, pretentious and food was just not good. Meal took way too long as well. Please save your money

Agree completely with the folks that gave this place a one star what a disappointment. Do yourself a favor and avoid at all costs. Food was terrible, bland, no flavor at all. I think people come for the hype and nothing more. Overpriced. Had to return a couple of meals including the deer cos they were simply inedible. Bathroom was so dirty. Servers were so over the top filling water every minute can't even enjoy a nice conversation. I am so surprised this place was hyped like it was. Avoid avoid. Munich had better offers go to Pageou other better options with absolutely amazing flavors. This place was open since the 1970 and it shows that they froze in time with spicing food as well. read more

Definitely deserve the Michelin stars! Love the exterior, the stone statues, the color and the interior design. There are two sections to the restaurant, one area serves prefix menu, the others for more regular menu. We had the full lunch prefix and it was amazing. Every dish was delicate, the presentation, the taste and how it was served; all perfect. From the moment we enter the establishment, nice welcome from the manager, the staff were very professional, enjoyed the wine pairing with our meal. The whole experience was very good and a great way to celebrate my birthday. I've been to many Michelin restaurants all over the world and this is definitely one I'll visit again when I'm in Munich. read more

We have eaten at many Michelin starred restaurants around the world and usually, we inform them beforehand, about my wife's vegetarian requirement and, double check to ensure they can cater for her. This is the first time ever that, after assuring us in writing that they can take care of it, not only were they totally unprepared, but also, prepared one of the most terrible vegetarian meals ever. In today's day and age it's amazing that a restaurant at this level can't make a decent vegetarian meal. I could have done a 5 course meal at home better than this place ever could. Munich has four two Michelin starred restaurants and this is the last one, we had not been to. Having been here tonight it would also be the last on the list and totally undeserving of its stars, let alone, being awarded two. I am amazed that the Michelin guide has awarded them two. The food is dated and unless you enjoy 1970's flavour with the least amount of imagination and lack of clean flavours, you won't like it here. We were actually really looking forward to it :-( The kitchen is one of the most miserly kitchens, I have ever seen. One small welcome course to start and really terrible petit fours to end. Most places would have at least 3-4 courses in between making it a nice long evening affair. Not one single dish wowed either of us in any way and we actually considered leaving half way through the meal. My veal was overdone and slightly chewy. The lobster was overdone and the dessert just did not go together at all. The petit fours were also terrible and I wish we had never had them. The wine list is good and the sommelier was a really friendly and helpful. Staff in general were very good and they could see that we were disappointed. After specifying no tomatoes, two of the five courses in the vegetarian came with tomatoes :-( one had to be taken back but came back with tomatoes anyway, second time around. Considering it's the most expensive restaurant in Munich I was truly disappointed and won't come back here again. Good service does not make up for an average meal, I am afraid. My local Bavarian serves up better flavours than this one. This would also be the first time ever I have rated a Michelin restaurant below 3 stars. Save your money and go to any of the other three two star restaurants. Not only will it cost you less but also, taste way better. I felt like giving it 1 star but the service staff saved the day. read more

Tantris, the best restaurant in Munich, and 80th best in the world (according to the prestigious S. Pellegrino best restaurant rating), did not disappoint. Delicious food, pleasant interior and amazing service- the waiters were extremely attentive, but not in that annoying manner that is so typical of fancy restaurants. I was expecting the food to come in tiny portions, and was pleasantly surprised to see that the portions were decently sized, and oh so delicious. Even if you don't order dessert and choose to simply get a coffee, they bring a huge platter of tiny sized pastries along with the coffee. Oh and if you are by any chance celebrating a birthday, they might just surprise you with a (free) cake with a candle. And at the end of the night, if you don't have a car, one of the restaurant's two chauffeurs drives you home. read more

World-class restaurant with everything you'd expect: high end service, high end prices, and high end ingredients. I had the 5 course tasting menu which was more than enough and they were nice about doing only a few glasses of wine (which were excellently paired) instead of the full wine tasting. They are strict about dress code -- they turned away a european couple in front of me who had capri pants on. They did let me in with jeans but I did have a jacket and dress shirt. They were great about accommodating food allergies and overall with anything you asked. I'd say the only minor quibble I had if I had to compare them to someplace like Jean George is that when they served the meals, there wasn't much fanfare. They didn't have multiple servers unveil/deliver the plates at once and they didn't talk through what you're eating. That said, that isn't a big deal and I still had an amazing time here. read more

As you'll note from my other reviews, I do not award five stars often or without merit, so it should say quite a lot that I've rated this 3 Michelin star restaurant as such. My husband and I dined here on a Saturday evening in March with another couple who hail from Zurich. (This restaurant also is apparently a go-to spot for some of my husband's colleagues who say the secret to a very special experience...and a good booking time is lunch on a weekend!) We happen to get a prime time Saturday evening reservation thanks to our hotel concierge. The decor is not what one might expect unless you are aware of the history of the space. It is 70s retro meets Asian in style and the combination, while peculiar, works amazingly well. Much of the restaurant style and decor is maintained from the 1970s as required because of historical significance. The bar to the left is nice and the martinis were well crafted. We were then seated in a corner of the main dining room with a full view of the restaurant. What I loved about the service was the smaller rectangular side table adjacent to each main table which served as the pouring surface and staging area for the phenomenal wine service...sommelier Justin deserves a 5-star review on yelp all to himself! Three of us ordered the 8 course tasting and I ordered a la carte. Our sommelier paired each course based both on the food and personal preferences and the pairings were just sublime. The food was exquisite and the presentation spot on and in line with expectations of a restaurant of this caliber. I had the langoustine entree followed by the blood orange dessert. What a wonderful misleading name for a gorgeous plate of a various chocolate and orange pastry items. The 8 course men deserves further comment as each portion is so generous it might be aptly named 8 full courses! Items like foie gras terrine, turbot, langoustines were ethereal! The meal finished with the most creative cheese course I've ever seen..a composed dish of greens, cheese and no bread or crackers as one might expect. Then, they finish with two courses of dessert followed by the largest plate of petit fours..and these are not your run-of-the-mill bites either. Kudos to the pastry chef for such balance achieved with all of the desserts. We could have spent a few more hours lounging around after a four hour dinner and a tour of the wine cellar. Justin is a wonderful sommelier whose quirky style, likability and superior knowledge of wine makes this destination worthy of a trip solely to experience the unique and extensive wine collection and warm and expert service. Just expect to spend a lot of money...it certainly is not a "value" meal, but you do get what you pay for. The upside is the exquisite food, special experience, impeccable service and you will certainly feel beyond satiated at the end of the meal. When I am in Munich again, we will most certainly return. read more

There was a lot to like but some things were off and so it pains me to give it three stars. But it's not five, which it should be for the Michelin rating. Food and wine service were easily four stars. Here's what I liked: -attentive waiters -food prepared perfectly -Sommelier Justin Leone friendly and helpful -goose liver and lamb for two was excellent Didn't like: -tough parking and no valet (yes its germany). Good luck! -strangely I ordered a white sparkling aperitif and got pink. It was good. -a jacket is required for some men. Hmmm, if Rakhshan doesn't know you or like the way you look, then you better have a jacket. If you are a regular or some other criteria which is not evident to the eye, you can skip the jacket. Yes, this double standard ruined my experience. -having eaten at meadowood and French laundry, I'm going to suggest its a little overpriced. We'll see if I feel the same after I eat at the Ledbury next week. read more

The "Tantris" has defended its position as Munichs best restaurant for 35 Years. Due to notorious underrating of german restaurants in the michelin guide, the Tantris has "only" two Michelin Stars even though Hans Haas cooking has (according to many other testers) three star quality. The chef, Hans Haas, is not one to participate in the new TV food show hype that has gemany in its grip for some years, but his cooking it top class nevertheless. My visit was some months ago, but i can still summon the sheer joy of tasting "tatar of raw tuna on curry foam". Also "the combination of trout" was one of the best fish dishes i ever had. As a hobby cook i left the tantris humbled by the incredible skill of the kitchen crew. The Tantris employs germanies most famous sommeliere, Paula Bosch. She has access to an unsurpassable cellar of wines. Service is very friendly, highly professional and never arrogant. read more

Solid 2 Michelin star cooking here in Tantris, with the highlight being the amazingly fresh fish (you wouldn't credit that you were so far from any sea!). Prices are reasonable for the quality and the accompanying wines are truly stunning (on my visit the dessert wine was a 1976 wine). Service is a perfect blend of professional and friendly. The room itself is a fantastic throwback to the 70's. read more

We have eaten at almost every 2 & 3 star Michelin restaurant in New York City and I'm shocked this place would get 1 star, let alone 2. The decor was from the 70s and so was the cuisine. The lobster was cooked the same way I would imagine it would be on a cruise ship (having never actually been on a cruise). Save yourself the immense disappointment and go to Schweiger^2 instead. Also, caveat emptor before eating the petit fours, the taste will linger (and believe me, you don't want it to). The only good thing about the restaurant was the sommolier. read more

This is our first time doing fine dining in Munich. Tantris is supposedly the best in Munich so we had to try it. What a huge disappointment. Food is mediocre at best - unlike most of the michelin starred restaurants - there isn't a "wow factor". Staff all seem very mechanical - they will fill your water when it's half empty but that's about it. I am quite surprised this is a michelin starred restaurant. They charge way too much for the quality they offer. We have dined at Le Cinq in Paris, Le Bernardin in NYC, Melise and Providence in LA, L'Atelier in Vegas and all of the above are far better value than this place. Really debated giving this only 1 star but the food was ok. We had the 5-course menu, with wine pairing and ordered an extra dessert. The food was it hit and miss. Nothing was truly terrible but none of it was exceptional either. I had hoped for more given the michelin rating and the price. The service was very good but overall the ambiance was a bit cliche fancy and the decor reminded me of 80s. Had I written this review while we were still in Munich, it would not be as kind as it is now but time heals most disappointments. If someone else paid, I would try it again. read more

Way,way,overpriced..snotty sommelier who wanted to start me off on a 125euro wine...settled on a 65 euro Riesling which was too sweet and only 8% alcohol. Should have sent it back. What a huge disappointment. Mistakes happen but it is how they are handled that matters. Having selected the 8 course taster menu almost 2 hours after the booking we were just being served our 3rd course . The excuse that was offered was mis communication in the kitchen . The maitre d was inept in the extreme . When I politely and I mean politely tried to give our feed back he was defensive and almost rude . Even although we had our concierge confirm the booking earlier in the day we still received the obligatory telephone call to confirm . I pointed out the to the restaurant that perhaps communication in Tantris needed some further consideration . It was my partners birthday and while they did try to rectify things the manner and appalling handling of our complaint left me feeling that the reputation of the is place is not deserved . A huge disappointment on a special night that still cost almost £500 . As " world class restaurants " go this is not in that league or any where near it . read more
