Reviewing this place proved to be harder than I imagined. There were elements of the evening that were impeccable and, some that were ok. For example, the service was exceptional but too serious for my liking. The decor of the place was more like a cafe and very casual. I expected a bit more from a decor point of view as, it is quite a small restaurant and the serious service combined with a casual atmosphere were at odds with each other. We booked to go here some time ago with friends and had a good night. The place itself is quite small and probably seats no more than 25 people. It's also a lot more casual than I expected and, most people were dressed in casual clothes which was slightly unusual, for a relatively expensive place. The chef came out and spoke to us and understood what we liked or did not like and spoke good English as well. This was a really nice touch and they were well prepared with the vegetarian request. Almost all the wait staff also spoke fabulous English and this was great. I was expecting great things. We had a 6 course menu and the first couple of courses were so so but, the rest was fantastic. The langoustine, beef and lamb were cooked to perfection. The salmon sashimi and tartar was also very nice. The wine list is extensive however the wines were a tad too expensive for what they were. The cheese course was excellent but, for me the dessert course was not fabulous. It was light and fruity but lacked the sweetness of a dessert. Towards the end of the evening the staff were letting us try some of the experimental food from the kitchen and that was nice. They loosened up a bit which was also nice. All in all a really great night with great friends. I would probably rate it somewhere between 3-4 stars. I don't know why, but with expensive Michelin restaurants I just expect more. I would come back here but considering what else is around, it would be a while before I do so.

As you can imagine each dish comes with a description by one of the waiters, in this case I hope the pictures say enough. (-:

Not having a TV and not being German, I had never heard of the TV chef so I was completely unbiased when we arrived at the small restaurant. We were pleasantly welcomed and seated. There was a nice selection of welcome drinks, incl three different champagnes (I chose the pink one, which was a bit dryer than I'm used to for pink champagne). Very nice. After the first amuse bouche, the chef arrived at our table for two and welcomed us personally. Asked us what kind of menu we were looking forward to. We had the 9 course surprise menu (3,5,9 and 12 course menus available). The chef asked us which ingredients he should not use. If during the diner we would think of anything else for him to avoid, just let him know. I'm not well versed in the language of wines and didn't want to drink too much so we opted for a 2 glass wine selection by the house. One glass to complement the first half of our diner and one glass for the second part. The wine choice was very nice. A white German wine to go with mainly fish dishes and a bit of poultry. And a nice Austrian red to go with the meat and the other dishes of the second part of our diner. Though this wine 'option' wasn't in the menu, it starts with a minimum of three glasses, this is the kind of place where they make you feel that nothing is a bother or a problem. They really want you to get the best experience. The diner was pleasantly paced. Never did we have to wait too long for the next dish (we weren't in a hurry anyway), nor did we ever have to ask for a refill of our sparkling water. This is the kind of restaurant that still have enough staff to serve the meals to everyone at a table at the same time. After each dish is served you get an explanation of what you see before you. I'll let the photos I posted speak for themselves. The staff was always there but were never a distraction. During the presentation of the rather large selection of cheeses (alternative available) you really notice how well informed the staff is about everything they serve. It's what you expect but it is still a pleasure to see that the people in a restaurant take the trouble to be good at what they do! All in all it was a splendid affair.

    Tacky bathroom :-)

Was really looking forward to trying this restaurant, especially after hearing the enthusiastic reviews and considering that it's so popular that you have to book 2 week in advance. The quality of the produce is very good, the stuff fresh, the staff helpful and prepared. The decor pleasant (but for a few tacky details, see photo, LOL). It's just, I don't know, there was something missing to the perfect experience which I am not really sure about, but did not make me fully satisfied with Schweiger 2. I suspect it's a mix of the following: 1) the place is really small so you get to sit really really close to other people, listen to people's conversations and this makes me uncomfortable 2) we opted for a 5 course (surprise) menu with no meat in it (our request). We got a starter, then 3 fish-based dishes and a dessert. The fish based dishes were all good but they were very very similar to each other. I think a bit more fantasy/variation would have been great. 3) price is a bit on the high end, but that's ok and we knew it before. I am just not sure I was happy to pay 150 euros (with matched wines) for a dinner I did not find perfect (for the reasons above). I guess that's the risk of any "surprise" menus, that's why I prefer to order a la carte, which is not possible here. Still, thumbs up and it deserves another try!

We went with a group of six and our waiter, William, handled our orders, including food allergies and vegan options, with such ease and precision. We tried a smattering of nearly everything...caprese salad, schnitzel (the best!), pasta, sautéed vegetables, French fries, carpaccio and more. Everyone raved over the freshness and quality of our selections! There's a large dining room, but also cozy private rooms if you have a larger party. This is a spot that would be ideal for business meals, date nights and group meals. There's a delicatessen on the first floor and a gift shop on the second. The restaurant itself is on the third floor, which we accessed via a beautiful staircase. I highly, highly recommend this restaurant as a must-see if you're in Munich! For reference, it's less than a mile from the English Garden.

Faun is an institution in Munich. I used to work around the corner and spent many a lunchtime…read moreenjoying their amazing (and cheap) lunch specials in the huge dining area. They have big tables, often used to seat several parties at one table (that's normal in Bavaria) - nice to get in contact with other patrons! We came in the afternoon (around 2pm I think) and had really nice lunches - pork roast, Weißwürste and a salad with steak strips. The place was almost empty by that time (also, it was aining heavily outside, so unfortunately no sitting in front of the house at the tables there). Service was fast and friendly as always and prices super reasonable. The lunch portions are smaller than the dinner portions, but that is reflected in the price and absolutely OK. BTW: they serve breakfast until 4pm, so even the very late riser can still get their Latte Macchiato and Müsli fix.

Faun! 3.5 stars I think is accurate for this place…read more I was looking to get away from the touristy attractions and wanted to find a place that had great food, but also was just a regular spot, one that a local would visit. Yelp to the rescue. The menu was diverse with reasonable prices making this the perfect place for my group. I call this ambiance modern rustic with the long family style seating wood tables, dim lighting and candle light making this a great spot for a casual dinner with friends or date night. I was there with the man and a German friend and everyone agreed: four stars. The two boys went with the 1/2 duck and I went with the Wiener schnitzel. The salad that came before my meal was delicious and the inexpensive house red was perfect. My wiener schnitzel was solid, however I wouldn't order again. The boys' duck was literally half the bird. Both were completely infatuated with their perfectly seasoned, meaty, dish. They did have to go almost caveman style with this dish, so if you're not a fan of using the hands, this may be a miss. At about 14-16 euro, this was a really great dish. We passed on dessert since we all were literally stuffed to the gills and the final bill for three was about 80 Euro. Definitely a local's spot more than a tourist spot which is what I like, so yeah, I'm a fan. Locals, give it a whirl and visitors looking to get away from the hubbub, this is definitely a great spot.
