The afternoon tea option is crazy cool - two unique yoghurt combos, two rolls, two desserts, and an unlimited cup of tea with their eight self-bag options. The tea options range from basic (Chinese Jasmine, Earl Grey) to quite unique (champagne tea, mon cheri). The option to self-bag at the table is quite fun - you can blend or try as many as you can get out of a big pot of hot water. Despite being a little bit chilly inside in winter, the restaurant is relaxed and a very nice ambiance. With comfy chairs around the back side, you might just take a nap after a nice treat. I should not fail to mention the staff who are exceptionally patient and kind, especially with newcomers to the concept. Much nicer than the somewhat less friendly staff at the crepe place across the street. Give it a shot!

A friend living in Haarlem took us to Wessels's Ijs just around the corner from the V&D and I had THE MOST AMAZING ICE CREAM OF MY ENTIRE LIFE. And then I spent two months trying to remember where it was and what it was called so I could write this review. Why didn't I just ask my friend? Good question. Anyways, I was in Haarlem last week and passed it by chance and made sure to make a mental note this time. So here you have it. The ice cream to beat all ice creams. I was going to order some delicious flavor which has long since been forgotten (the guy working there let us sample, yay) and then he said, "why don't you try this one Kelsey, it's really good, I think you'll like it." Two words: LEMON CHEESECAKE. Okay and another one: OMG. It was really amazing. As I said this ice cream experience was two months ago and I still think about it on a daily basis. Sadly the shop was closed when we went by this time so I'm not sure if they open at all in the winter. If not I will pine for it until the spring/summer. Big sigh. Yum yum yum.

The balls (scoops) are smaller than you might expect, so don't hesitate to order three or even four. They stack neatly into the cones and feel more like a proper tasting flight than over‑indulgence. I tried three flavors, and the experience was a mix of hits and misses: Chocolate Brownie -- the disappointment of the bunch. A little gritty, surprisingly flat, and missing the rich chocolate depth or the decadent brownie texture you'd expect from the name. Not bad, just not memorable. Oreo -- also a disappointment, but paradoxically the clear winner. It doesn't taste like Oreo at all -- no distinct cookie flavor, no crunch -- but the chocolate‑vanilla blend itself is genuinely delicious. Order it not because it's "Oreo," but because it's simply a good flavor. Vanilla -- the standout. Basic vanilla is easy to get wrong, often veering into synthetic or overly sweet territory. This one doesn't. It's rich, natural, and clean, the kind of vanilla that reminds you why the classic exists in the first place. Monte Pelmo remains a Jordaan staple for a reason: even when a flavor misses the mark, the overall quality, texture, and experience stay strong. Grab a cone, don't be shy about multiple balls, and enjoy one of the neighborhood's most reliable treats.
