The spa is insanely beautiful here! The moment you approach the building and see the zen garden out…read morefront you feel relaxed. Going through the automatic doors you can tell they put a lot of thought into the entire design of the spa. My friend and I arrived early for our massage so we could enjoy the pool. It was a beautiful day so we spent time at the outdoor pool. The pool is perfect! They have waiter service so you can get poolside drinks, snacks, and smoothies. When it was time to head in we put our robes and headed to the waiting area. The interior of the spa walking to the treatment room was beautiful. The water features are beautiful. They also have crystals all over the ceiling. My masseuse told me they literally take them down a few times a year and bury them to charge them. I'm not very into crystals, but if you are, I imagine this is something you would certainly appreciate. I really enjoyed every minute of my massage! This was probably one of the more expensive massages I have had, but if you arrive early or stay late and make the most of the spa it feels more worth it. The only room I feel like could have used an upgrade was the spa waiting room. I think some additional snacks and tea options would go far to just making the whole experience. I would certainly head back into the spa again the next time I'm at Nemacolin.

However, while the spa was good, there just felt like something was missing. I will give it 4.5 stars if I could on Yelp. Not quite 5 stars. Price: $$$$ massages start at 300+ for 80 min and go upwards. Facials start at 250+ for men and 300+ for women and with add ons the price can climb quickly. Gratuity is added already but you can adjust after your service accordingly. Pros: very friendly staff, locker areas are clean. Showers are cleaned quickly after patrons use them. All the amenities you need to freshen up are provided and the robes are OH so soft. When you book a service, you have access to the pool, saunas and whirlpool. There is also a fireside lounge on the third floor where you can also reserve to relax in. Kim, the aesthetician that gave me my facial took the time to explain everything, was very thorough in evaluation of my skin and took my concerns in mind in her treatment. She didn't rush the appointment and made honest recommendations without trying to sell me any products. She was great! They have biologique recherche products, which provides another type of facial experience. Cons: really not too much. Would be nice to have a common waiting are for men and women, especially a couple waiting for treatments. Men's steam sauna was broken at the time. For the women's, there was a strong smell of chlorine in the Eucalyptus steam sauna. For such a luxury place, felt like these small details add up when you are paying 600+ for experiences. Likelihood of returning: high when at the resort again. However, it's not open to the public if you're not staying on the property.

I told her I did not ever straighten or blow dry my hair and she did both. I asked to have it thinned very slightly and trimmed. I also asked her to put some layers in. She ended up straightening my hair so that it was flat, cutting less than an inch off, and thinning out HALF my hair volume. I left shaking and burst into tears as soon as I made it out the door. My curl pattern has been drastically affected months later. My hair will grow back eventually, but people with curly, thick hair, who wear it naturally will not have a great experience there.

Needless to say, I was pretty nervous leaving my regular barber behind in Va. I was a walk-in as well, so I was envisioning the worst, but my fears were soon washed away like so many salon shampoos. Everything was great, and I will certainly stop in the next time I'm in town.

When I mentioned the expected time, she immediately hit me with "Why would your braids take two hours?" Then she followed it up with "Your braids are super easy" -- like that was her excuse to rush and do the bare minimum. She had me in and out in no time with almost zero effort. The braids looked decent at first, but they started falling apart in less than two days. A female friend of mine looked at them and straight-up said, "I could have done better than that" -- and she doesn't even do hair. She acted like she didn't even want to be there. No attention to detail, no pride in the work, just slap some braids in, take the money, and send me on my way. I've had way better braids for the same price or less from other places.
