This office handles A LOT of patients who have multiple health issues so the appointments run a bit long which can cause delays with your appointment time. Be prepared! Dr. Tanner is a wonderful and caring physician. He actually takes the time to talk with his patients and listen to their concerns. He reviews their medical record, no matter how long it is, and will start making a game plan. He doesn't take shortcuts with his patient care and tells you exactly how it is. He's not rude, and has a very pleasant bedside manner. His office staff isn't quite as pleasant. read more

Office staff is terrible and rude. Always such a long wait, regardless of an appointment. Office is old and reeks of over sprayed, toxic air freshener. I also recently had an x ray request sent over to imagining and because Dr. Tanner's office did not fill out the date on the form, the imaging center refused to process the request. I ended up having to drive back to Dr. Tanner's office to simply have the date added. What should have been a quick imaging apt ended up taking 2 hours. Let me preface this by saying I made a Yelp account just to review this practice because that is how bad of an experience I had here. If I could give this practice zero stars I would. I showed up 5 minutes early to my new patient appointment and was told the doctor would be right with me. The receptionist then called me back up to the window where she used whiteout and wrote over all the medical documents I had already signed; changing the information I had put to something else (without my consent or knowledge). After waiting in the lobby for 45 minutes I walked to the front desk and asked if there was an estimate as to how much longer I would be waiting to see the doctor. She told me he would be right with me. 10 minutes later I was greeted by the nurse (fantastic RN by the way). I was then greeted by Garth Tanner who walked into the room and asked, "Why are you here". I say about two words before I was interrupted with, "Have you been diagnosed with anything". I could tell there was something up and no longer felt comfortable in the room with him, which I told him, and he yelled while thrusting the door to the private room open, "Now you're wasting both of our time, come back when you're actually prepared to share what's going on so you don't look like such an idiot". I was recommended this practice through a professional colleague of mine in the medical industry. While I can't speak to his medical abilities, his attitude and bedside service is horrendous and the front staff are inconsiderate people who clearly hate their lives, but I would too if I worked for him. Very rude and unprofessional staff, if you need paperwork or referrals or results don't count on them to get the job done it will take weeks, if they remember..The ladies here could care less about you so if need to see a doctor or need referral it would be best to go to the ER so you can be seen and get doctors help ASAP rather than wait 3 weeks in pain...Dr tanner himself is a nice guy but not available most of the time. read more

I have been in the Care of Dr. Tanner for about 3 yrs. As far as his taking care of you, he has been a very kind, patient , and understanding on my first visit. I really was impressed he listened to my health issues and was very sympathetic to my needs. But as for his staff..I would give a 0 rating. As of today 9/17/2024 I have decided I need a Dr. who can see me when I have a serious problem. You cannot get past the staff who is very rude, never gets back to you for follow-ups. I had a shoulder problem and was in excruciating pain. Saw his RN on 8/15/2024 told her about my pain and shoulder which I told her I would go to my Chiropractor to see if he could put it back into socket.(which has happened in the past the (out of socket) I saw Dr. Morris on 8/20/24 , 8/21/24, and 8/28/24 then still in pain went to Urgent Care who sent me to get X-Rays and gave me a pain Gel for my shoulder. Told me to follow-up with your primary Dr. On 8/30/24 I had called Dr. Tanners Office to get Appt...would not give me one until 9/17/24. I was in so much pain. I called my health Provider for help Keosha Kelly praying she could get me a sooner appt. with a NO to her. Dr. Tanner has the worst staff I have ever dealt with! I have had 3 emergencies and still had to go see other Drs. for help. If you can't see your primary Dr. for help seems to be a big problem. I left this facility and as of 10/01/24 will hopefully have a better experience than I have had at this office. Its been a nightmare!! Dr. did not want to hear anything I had to say. I handed him a detailed reason why I left his facility and his previous review. Many complaints about the staff. Dr. should really listen to his patients, they are his money! I've been patient of Dr. Tanner's for a few months. As a Registered Nurse, I would say I'm quite particular and an fierce advocate for my own health care. He has demonstrated the great art of listening, thoroughly turns over every stone to flush out the correct diagnosis, never hesitates referring to specialists if needed. I'm normally not one to write negative reviews, but my experience with Dr. Tanner's office was so unacceptable I feel I have no choice. Throughout my appointments, I felt very little empathy from the office (the only exception being the on-staff nurse, who was helpful and kind). Some of my questions and concerns were not addressed, and when I would try calling the office to ask about my treatment, they would rarely let me speak with the doctor - more often, the receptionist would communicate between us, and numerous times gave the wrong information. I repeatedly had to catch and correct mistakes in my care. Recently, I called in regarding a condition I have, and over the phone they prepared to prescribe me a medication for a completely different condition. It's only thanks to my own medical background that I realized they were prescribing me the wrong drug and I pointed out their error. Mistakes like this could have been avoided if I was simply allowed to speak directly to the doctor, like I requested. My final negative experience occurred when a medication Dr. Tanner prescribed for me did not work. I called the office to inform them the medication was ineffective and I still had symptoms, and I was told that I'd need to be referred to a specialist since this treatment was now out of Dr. Tanner's scope. However, instead of simply sending in the referral for me like they could have, they made me come in to the office for it. I was early for my appointment and was let in late. I was taken to the exam room, and Dr. Tanner walked in without a mask (while the pandemic was still raging strong). He spent less than a minute in the room with me, didn't examine me or actually check to confirm my symptoms. He basically just asked me whether the medication had worked, and I said no, as I had already explained in detail by phone. Then I was sent away and told I'd hear from the specialist. Weeks past, and I heard nothing. Finally, I called the specialist myself, and they told me they don't even treat the condition I was referred for. I had to call Dr. Tanner's so they could switch the referral - again, a mistake I had to catch myself. Shortly later, I got a bill in the mail for my office visit with Dr. Tanner. The day of my appointment, I hadn't been told there would be any charge to me. Furthermore, there was no point for my office visit in the first place - me coming in gave them no info beyond what I had already explained over the phone. Especially during the height of a pandemic (which it doesn't appear this office takes seriously), being made to come in person for something that could be addressed remotely accomplishes nothing except to waste my time, waste my money, and expose me to unnecessary risk. I called the office again to explain why I was so unhappy to receive this bill, but their response was that "the charge will stay." Well, given how I've been treated, I have no desire to stay with this office. I hope Dr. Tanner will read this and will understand my dissatisfaction, because it seems to be the last way I can make myself heard. And if my issue is not addressed, I will find a new doctor and advise others to do the same. read more

Dr. Garth Tanner was my primary care physician for over 14 years. Most years, I would only see him once for an annual physical. Over the past several years, it was apparent the Dr. Tanner was very disengaged every time that I saw him. He was so very, very unprepared and would not remember significant issues and claim not to have records or copies of correspondence from other specialist physicians' notes that was verifiably sent to his attention at his office. My last several annual physicals my experience with Dr. Tanner were very rapid, not an examination and really nothing more than me updating him on issues , while he updated the information on his laptop computer. Again, I had to update him on issues that had previously been shared with him directly from other physicians. As a relatively healthy 62 year old male, he would also not perform a recital prostate exam. Based on Dr. Tanner's continued and absolute lack of interest in my health and him not doing recommended annual exams, I decided to switch physicians when it was time to schedule my recent annual physical. Therefore on March 11, 2020, I requested and paid the $25 fee to obtain my medical records from Dr. Tanner office since I had a new patient appointment with my selected replacement physician on March 22, 2020. Due to Governor Newsom's statewide emergency stay at home order on March 19, 2020, my new physician rescheduled my appointment to May 12, 2020. However, in the meantime I am required to take a couple of prescription medications (Levothyroxine 50mcg & Atorvastatin 40mg) and I received a call from my pharmacist on April 14, 2020 informing me that Dr. Tanner had refused to renew the prescriptions. I called Dr. Tanner's office to explain my situation, remind them that I was a 14 year patient and the Covid-19 emergency had caused a delay in obtaining a new prescription from an alternate physician. I eventually talked to the Office Manager who stated that Dr. Tanner was "very aware" of my situation but she continued to repeat the response that "I picked up my records on March 11 and I was no longer a patient of Dr. Tanner". This statement was repeated to me over and over, even after my detailing the above timeline and that the unexpected Covid-19 emergency caused my situation. I asked to talk to Dr. Tanner directly and she informed me that she would give him my message. Since I did not receive a call back by April 17, I called the office again and again received the previously repeated response that I was "no longer a patient of Dr. Tanner as of March 11, 2020''. In addition, I have also reviewed Dr. Tanner's notes from my previous physical examinations and found inaccuracies and falsified information in my records, including that I had declined services/examinations that were never offered to me. In addition, the records included correspondence Dr. Tanner had previously denied receiving although many have his initials on the copies. read more

If I could give Dr. Tanner 0/5 stars, I would. I went in during peak pandemic time & during my visit, he did not wear a mask the entire time. I had went in for bad mood swings & severe derealization. When I had brought this up to him, he had told me I might have had a vitamin deficiency. But after this, he went on a huge christian rant and told me I should actually try to heal my soul & that i'd be surprised what god could do & that I just needed to confide in him in order for me to be okay. He referred to mental health institutions as "loony bins" and told me how connecting with god would help me stay out that. He stood in front of the door the entire time which made me uncomfortable. I felt stuck and caged in because the room was already very small and he blocked the only exit. I left feeling extremely defeated, hopeless, and even worse than I did before considering a doctor had not even listened to me and did not take how I felt seriously. He was extremely unprofessional and his kind of "advice" is extremely harmful. Do NOT go to him. read more

This office completely lacks compassion and professionalism from the receptionist, to the insurance billed, to the office manager, to the medical assistant to the Doctor. My parents have been patients of Dr. Tanner for the past 15 years when they moved to Modesto. Over the years instead of improving with experience Dr. Tanner has become more distant and less interested in his patients, he is more rushed, hurried and indifferent. His staff is rude and unprofessional. The receptionist did not smile one time and seemed like every call was an annoyance to her. It really upset me when I told my Mom to talk to Dr Tanner about her daily headaches and feeling lightheaded and she said " oh I don't want to ask him very many questions because he always seems frustrated if I ask questions and take up too much of his time, that actually broke my heart that a Doctor would make any patient feel this way especially an elderly patient who is a recent breast cancer survivor and suffers from diabetes. I'm sad and disappointed with today's appointment. In the past year Dr. Tanner has seemed less interested in me as a patient coming to him for help. He seems to be in a hurry to get me out of his office. Today's appointment was for severe neck and upper back pain. It's been weeks of home care. I have tried ice, heat, Exercises for neck and upper back pain. His advice was to try acupuncture or other alternative medicine. I'm not seeking pain medication. I'm seeking a diagnosis and help. I have no quality of life. I sat in my car and cried after my appointment. My appointment didn't last more than 5 minutes and he was opening the door to leave. I'm not faking or dramatic. I'm at a loss of what to do. I don't want to find a new doctor. I want a doctor who helps me Feel better. read more

Not sure why the other bad reviews... I had an appointment today for a follow up for a severe sore throat that required treatment and Dr. Tanner was very thorough with me and took plenty of time. He went through every piece of my paperwork and made notes. The office staff seemed fine too. I also barely had to wait at all. I probably waited for 5 minutes in the waiting room and 5 minutes in the exam room. It was an overall pleasant and stress free experience given that I really hate going to the dr. read more

If you want rude and poor bedside manner, then you found the right place. I was referred to this Dr Tanner since I thought he specailized in geriatric health. I do not think he was interested in helping me at all and but seemed very interested in taking my money and billing my insurance. He was short and always seemed short on time to talk to me about my health issues.
