Forget about the tourist traps in the middle of downtown Gettysburg, this restaurant and bodega is the real deal if you are looking for authentic Mexican food in an unassuming hole-in-the-wall setting. The front of the store has fresh produce, groceries, and baked goods and the back has a sit down restaurant with a full menu of delicious Mexican dishes and delectable cakes and other desserts. We got the Chicken Fajita Quesadillas, fresh guacamole, and the taco and enchilada lunch special and everything tasted great. We got our meal to-go and they even included spicy and mild salsa containers with our food. Highly recommend if you are looking for authentic tex-mex food in a casual setting. read more

2nd visit in 2 months - they knocked it outta' the park both times! Both times I've ordered one of their combination platters in order to sample a little bit of everything - not one thing to complain about. Food was really tasty & not too heavy, the staff is friendly, & the food comes out quickly. Tania's is located in a nondescript little shopping center just off of US 30 a.k.a. the Lincoln Highway - the front of the restaurant is a small food store...but you're in the right place - just walk to the back to the relatively small seating area. Wow. Some of the best restaurants are small, plain and unassuming, and this place is no exception. We were visiting the area and had a hankering for Mexican food and the reviews here were good so we took a shot. So glad we did. You walk into a small storefront with lots of dried peppers, specialty items and drinks. Walk through and you hit the dining room. A true family restaurant, the staff were all sharing a meal but quickly seated us and made us feel right at home. Outstanding little restaurant in back of Mexican grocery. There are only 10 tables, I am first here on Saturday night 5:30. 4 more table fill by 5:45, I'm the only non-Spanish speaker in the room. Oh well, menu is translated. Mushroom quesadilla served in corn tortilla instead of wheat I am used to. The appetizer chips fresh and crispy with wonderful home made salsa. This is an amazing hidden gem! Don't let the location or outside facade fool you, this place has amazing, authentic Mexican food! I had tamales which were moist and flavorful (sometimes tamales can be dry). The shrimp, steak, and chicken fajitas were great with fresh vegetables. The shredded beef burrito was stuffed full with meat. This place is definitely worth visiting! read more

What a wonderful authentic Mexican restaurant. So often "Mexican" means Mexican food that has been Americanized, but not here. The food was delicious, especially the Tamale which was a real "cooked in a corn husk" Mexican style tamale! This was our first time and we will be back! read more

The best thing we ate was the chips and salsa. I had the chile relleno and BF had three soft tacos. The pork on his tacos was tasty, we would be fine having that again. My chile relleno was poor. The breading was soggy and limp, and the sauce was watery and ketchupy. Not a good showing at all. The staff were nice and service was good. read more

I was very disappointed. My husband and I use to enjoy the food here, but the last 4 times that we have come it's been so bland and very small in portions. My side of beans was about two tablespoons that the spread out thinly on a small plate. I wish I had taken pictures. I also got two tacos and the beef had no flavor. This is the best REAL Mexican food I have had since leaving San Diego! Fast service. Fresh, spicy, and everything you look for in Mexican food. I had the Burrito Mexicano delish, and my husband had the Beef Chimichanga. They are even open for breakfast. The restaurant is inside of a Mexican market. Do you want to see what horrors are in this world? Go look at the men's restroom in this restaurant. I've been loyal to Tania's for years, but I find this to be too disgusting not to mention. I should have taken photos, but its too disgusting to even post. The bathroom was dirty, gross, and the toilet seat is so worn and dirty, you will need antibiotics after sitting on it. I hope this is not indicative of the kitchen cleanliness. Go ahead, peek in the bathroom. Try to wash your hands with the broken faucet that is barely bolted to the sink. What a disaster. The restaurant should be ashamed. Over the years, I have loved the spicy pork tacos. The recipe has changed dramatically, the pork is fried, and it's terrible. This place was ok. We have had better Mexican food and better service. If I had to recommend one item from the menu would be the nachos, they were the best part of our meal. The environment is kind of cool, in the back of a Mexican grocery store that the kids found fun and interesting ( we ended up buying some items out curiosity). The girl that waited on us was fine, although it was awkward as her and her family were watching TV ( Spanish show) very loudly and eating their lunch at the table next to us. Best Mexican food we have had in Gettysburg. We have been here twice, once pre- pandemic and once recently for carry-out. Both times were very good. The Burrito Mexicana was excellent, and actually a bit spicy (which we like). The chimichanga was ok but we would not get it again as carry-out because it loses the crispness of frying as it steams itself in the styrofoam box. We will definitely plan to eat at Tanias again when it is safe to eat indoors again. read more

This place. Oh man, this place. I've been twice now and each time I'm absolutely amazed at the taste of the food, quantity, and price. The atmosphere is great and homey, and the staff are all really nice. I've had their salsa verde tamales (amazing), refried beans (yum), and the spicy pulled chicken quesadilla (delicious). We had a very solid, authentic meal here. The service was pleasant, it was a mellow atmosphere. It was the best meal we had in Gettysburg.

Food and service was EXCELLENT!! Our waiter was a college student who was majoring in marketing and he will go far! My only issue that kept me from leaving a 5 star was the bathroom cleanliness and across from the bathroom was a cold storage room. You saw it as soon as you came out of the restroom. There was no door to the room and I saw more than one open container of food in the cooler that is supposed to be covered and dated per health code. That concerned me because it something we could have just eaten. I will go back if I'm in the area but maybe the local health dept. should drop in, unannounced! read more

This place is the real thing in an area where most eateries are nowhere close to the real thing. I've been here about ten times. I've ordered burritos, quesadillas, tacos, sopas and soups like menudos. The staff are always helpful and welcoming. The food comes out QUICK. The portions are fair given the quality and the price. They usually have a couple homemade salsas they bring out to the table for your food. The food is always very fresh and well seasoned. One note - although I appreciate the complimentary chips and salsa, I wish they would give out a plate or the table May because I always wind up making a big mess with all the crumbs and salsa. read more

Great atmosphere and nice little store in the front. Unfortunately our food was terrible. Cold, stale chips - we came at 3pm, I'm guessing we got some lunch leftovers. Salsa was not great either, tomato soup with larger chunks of onion. The real low was the shrimp fajitas. The shrimp was cooked to death - like chewing on jerky! The rice and beans were bland. Delicious food and attentive service!!! It's clean and service is prompt and courteous. We all ordered different entrees and everyone was taken aback by the delicious taste of the food. It is fresh and you can tell they pay attention to detail and your requests. We wished we had a restaurant like this back home. Their guacamole is so tasty! Just good quality food. The atmosphere is also very warm and laid back...like being at home. I would definitely come again when I am in Gettysburg. I have recommended it to my family and friends. This is my go to place for Mexican. I usually go in the early afternoon and don't have to wait. The staff are friendly and attentive. Food is great! I love the tacos! The queso and salsa is soooo good! I like it runny, not chunky. I eat here a couple times a month. I won't go anywhere else for Mexican around here. The little store is also pretty cool! read more

The service was unacceptable. Sat in the restaurant for an hour only to find out our order had never been submitted. The waiter had to retake our order because he lost it. Then sat for 40 minutes before we asked the waiter who kept telling us it was next. Not sure how many workers walked past our table without bothering to check on us. It's ok. I had steak tacos and the meat was unusual, very fatty and grissley...seemed like very low grade meat (like tongue, which I am not a fan of). The restaurant closes at 9:00 pm. We got there at 8:15 and by 8:30 they were putting up all the chairs on the tables and starting mopping the floor with pinesol. It's an okay place. I had some tacos de carne asada but the meat was too burnt for me to enjoy it.

The time to review Tania's is probably NOT after I just waited an hour for three measly tacos. Husband and I stumbled on to this location after doing the long drive to the location in Aspers. The trio tacos are great, the salsa is phenomenal, but the wait if you go anywhere near dinner hours is just ridiculous. read more

Tanias Mexican Restaurant and Store is a unique little restaurant with fantastic food I'm positive you guys won't be disappointed the hot sauces are home made as well as there homemade drinks such as horchata(milk and cinnamon drink), tamarindo(sweet tamarind drink) and jamica (habiscis flower). They make there food fresh not just like some fast food restaurant that is why most times it takes a little bit long but at the end it's worth the wait they have a variety amount of food and I wouldn't go anywhere else they also have another restaurant down in aspers but the one in Gettysburg is the best one highly recommended going to this small restaurant very friendly service and staff. read more

Awesome place!! First of all this is an authentic Mexican grocery store and restaurant. The menu is not the generic Mexican restaurant menu you find at 99% of Mexican places. Chips and salsa were great with the queso. I have fajitas quesadilla with guac and rice - all were fantastic. DH had chorizo sopas and he reported they were excellent. Huge portions and low prices! Tania's is for real. I've lived in San Antonio, Austin, and Calif. and this is as good Mexican food anywhere. I've only had the burrito and the tacos, but it is all good including the beans, rice, and chips and salsa. They have steak and pork chips on the menu as well. Great tasting food. Overall not bad for being this far north. Enchiladas Verde de pollo were great but they cover them in sour cream and it's not mentioned on the menu. Next time I would definitely tell them to hold the sour cream. The steak tacos and chicken tacos were great. The pork not so much. The pork wasn't shredded, it was chunks and some weren't edible. Queso dip was amazing, green sauce great, salsa wasn't bad but had no peppers. Us Texans like it a little more on the spicy side. Shrimp Quesidilla was great. The cheese quesadilla was almost the same price for just cheese and tortilla, not a good value. The drinks were overpriced. Service was ok.
