After coming back nearly 10 years later (post-child rearing and COVID) I'm both delighted and…read morerelieved that ODC continues to be the vibrant community for dance and movement that it's always been. The teachers remain outstanding, and because it's tricky for me to have a regular routine, I love the flexibility of all the different offerings. And there really is nowhere else where you can feel like everyone is welcome - no matter age, size or ability. And at such affordable prices! I'm addicted to Rhythm & Motion (where the music remains fresh, while some old classics allow me to remember some of the moves from years ago), but I've also loved the other classes I've tried, from Pilates to strength-training. I'm also really going to try to make that hip-hop class...;)

After work I would go to ODC on certain days. I've been taking hip hop classes since 2007 at ODC. Almost 100% of the hip hop classes I enrolled are taught my Micaya. What I love about ODC is the studios aren't dark inside. Also the studios are spacious enough where you don't feel cramped. Even though I've taken hip hop classes for almost 20 years at ODC it doesn't feel dated. The one complaint I would make is regards to Studio B, which is where I take hip hop classes. Most of the studios downstairs have wooden floors however upstairs inside Studio B the Marley floor has too much grip or can be sticky. I'm surprised that throughout the years I haven't twisted my ankle or knee. Despite the Marley floor I enjoy taking hip hop classes at ODC.

There's several class types for all genres (kpop, hip hop, popping, jazz funk, house) - for different levels! So many teachers to choose from, recently I've been taking Jepoy's Beg Hip Hop on Friday nights and they've been so fun! I plan to take others! Each class is $25 unless there's a special guest, and you can book the class online or do a drop in when you're there (They accept Venmo on site!) I typically book day of, but best to book in advance when it comes to special guests. I wish there were class packs of some sort because I would love to come more consistently. Parking is pretty easy on Fri nights, but I can't speak for the other days, as it is located in the city. They also have spring performance workshops, which I plan to do in the future! I'm excited to keep coming back!

I used to come a few years ago, and I recently started coming back. I was pleasantly surprised because the current batch of teachers is much better than it was before. I took Eddie Mina's class on 6/24/26, and I absolutely loved it. The vibes were great, the choreography was taught thoroughly, and Eddie is an excellent instructor. I'm only taking off one star because I wish students were more aware of dance class etiquette. I understand that dance classes are supposed to be fun, but constantly joking, talking, and being unfocused with your group of friends while the instructor is teaching is disrespectful (not only to the teacher, but also to everyone else who paid to be there and is trying to learn the choreography) It was distracting enough that it made me hesitate to come back to this instructor's class if his crowd of students continues to be like this. (I didn't experience this in Austin's class, so I think the crowd varies by the teacher) In LA, most dance studios and instructors emphasize class etiquette and remind students to stay quiet and focused while the teacher is demonstrating or explaining choreography. I think that really helps create a respectful learning environment for everyone. I hope City Dance Studio can consider reminding students about class etiquette at the beginning of class or by posting a simple reminder on Instagram. I genuinely enjoyed the instructor and would love to keep coming back but the student environment is the only thing keeping me from coming back.

Ballet is such a beautiful and graceful dance, and I wanted to get back to it, even if only for my own personal goals and wellbeing. The Academy of Ballet offers an amazing adult beginning course that starts with the basics and focuses on proper form to give you a strong foundation to build upon. Even though I had taken ballet in the past, I decided to sign up for New Adult Beginning Class. I'm so glad I did. Although I had taken classes here and there, this was not like riding a bike. I've been taking classes for about a year now and I'm feeling stronger and more confident. The teachers (Zori and Elizabeth) are great. They give wonderful instruction, keep an eye on our form and yet still make class fun. Magnolia is the administrative manager and manages registrations, organization and helps keep us organized with our classes a makeups. I'm sure she does a lot more behind the scenes but those are things that she has helped me with. She's also a lovely ballet dancer.

I appreciated that she adjusted her approach based on our timeline. We started with just a few classes, so she focused more on just creating and teaching the choreography. But when we realized we could devote more time, she shifted to working with us on our fundamentals to make the entire thing look much more polished. Highly recommend!

We took a total of 5 dance lessons and we are so happy with the results. Our successful first dance would not have been possible without Genevieve's guidance, patience, and incredible choreography. She started by teaching us the basic fundamental dance steps (ie. rumba, foxtrot, single time swing) and then pieced the steps into a choreographed dance to the song we chose (Harvest Moon by Neil Young). She taught us how to transition from one step to another and provided us with tips on how to be more aligned with each other. This was the first time we've taken dance lessons since we were kids, but Genevieve made us feel comfortable and put us at ease! After every session, she would email us notes so we could review each lesson and practice at home. I highly recommend taking dance lessons with Genevieve, whether it's for your wedding or just for fun! My partner and I really enjoyed our time with Genevieve and are so thankful for her support and guidance. We look forward to further lessons with her in the future! Tips for new clients: I recommend starting your lessons at least a month and a half before your wedding. It would be helpful if you had your first dance song or a few song options chosen before reaching out to Genevieve.

Ms. Byrne is an artist and a gifted educator -- she is a wonderful choreographer and always makes sure that the instruction is age-appropriate *and* fun. Not to mention she is kind, caring, and has a very peaceful way about her. The kids LOVE her! This school is great for families who want to give their children an artistic and healthy outlet for their creativity, to learn self-discipline, and to help them develop confidence and self-esteem. The founders have cultivated a supportive, positive atmosphere and you never really feel that it is a "business" per se (as can be the case at other studios in town), but rather, a welcoming place that truly cares about children and instilling the love of dance. If you're looking for an intensive studio that is focused on grooming hyper-competitive dancers for professional careers, this may not be the right place....but that said, there are MANY talented students at the school who wow me at every recital. To the 1-star reviewer below, the venomous rage in the post is puzzling to me. Most art/dance/music schools have unusual hours. It should be obvious that a dance studio is not like your typical storefront (i.e., coffeeshop, grocery store) so it's common sense to call ahead before making the trip over. Angry people suck.
