The teachers and office manager know all of us by name; the teachers take time to get to know their students (what makes them click and inspires them) and the office manager takes time to get to know the parents/caregivers, etc. and makes them feel welcome! During the COVID shutdown, the studio amazingly pivoted to virtual instruction very quickly. We were taking classes online before the schools or other activities were able to make the switch. As restrictions loosened, the studio welcomed in person dancers in a super safe manner and offered virtual instruction for those not comfortable with in person classes. Both were very well done. When school continued to be virtual, the studio offered a scholars program which allowed students to do their school work in the studio and take dance classes during their breaks. It was a social godsend to provide a pod like environment for our kids who craved social interaction, and exercise during virtual school (all done in a safe manner)! I was always impressed with the care the studio took to address the concerns of the various families so that everyone felt comfortable! The dance studio offers a variety of classes for beginners to serious, competitive dancers. I'd like to highlight their unique teen dance program which allows teenagers who are beginning dancers to comfortably take classes with other students their age. You're never too old to start dancing! The dance studio is located in downtown McLean and therefore conveniently located for parents/caregivers who can run meaningful errands nearby while their dancers are in class. But, the studio also has a lovely waiting area if you want to watch the classes on TV. Overall, I highly recommend JSDA's dance studio!

The dance room doors do not have windows and there is a locked private office which does not have a window in the door (it was stated that the office belongs to the owner, a man). There is also a teachers lounge which is locked. This is concerning because young children are there and private rooms create a safety issue. Most classes are in the evening and the children enter the building through a back door which faces a dark parking lot. There is a small light on the back of the building which was not working and there are no lights in the parking lot. Studios in the area charge less and offer more.

I was impressed by the size, cleanliness and functional layout of the community center. There was convenient & easy parking and a large lobby area that draws you back towards diverging hallways with a series of large adjacent rooms for holding community activities and events. For the 2023 Chocolate Festival there was a whole hallway of rooms where the vendors were displaying their delicious chocolate candies & treats that they had for sale! It was a very organized event. All purchases being made with tickets that you bought from the cashiers at a long table in the lobby just around the corner of the hallway. Down the other hallway was a special room set up as a children's game room with arts & crafts and Legos for the kids to build with. My grandchildren loved it! There were benches for relaxing on conveniently placed by the bathrooms. We sat there and shared some of the chocolate treats that we bought! That same day a flute quartet was providing music for the visitors. This was a super fun event. I would gladly return to this venue for other family themed activities. I had a really fun time taking a recent Cardio Hip-Hop class. The check-in process was easy. I…read moreasked the person at the counter if they took any classes there and they did. The check-in person was super welcoming and told me about some of the other dance formats offered there. This dance studio caters to both children and adults. So you will see kids running around, which is ok, but I am not really used to. The class started on time. The instructor had great energy and encouraged us to have fun and do things our own style. I haven't been dancing in a while, so I knew it would be a good challenge for me. I really had a lot of fun. My only surprise is that the classes are only 60 mins. I think they ought to be 70 minutes to include a proper 5 min warm-up and 5-minute cool-down. There wasn't a lot of warming up in the beginning of this particular class. I've taken adult dance classes for years and I am used to something that include some warm-up movements to get the rotating joints going, like neck rolls, shoulder rolls, and hip and lower back movements. The class did include a relaxing cool down with stretching for the lower body and upper body. I plan to take more Hip-Hop style classes. They offer Cardio Hip-Hop, Beginner Hip-Hip and more advanced levels, Sensual Dance, Twerk, Ballet, Shuffle, Street Jazz and a lot more. I plan to try about 5 more formats and sign-up for one class for the summer session. I highly recommend this place!

I got the 7:50pm cause the time posted was 8pm class, but apparently it would start at 8:30pm. People did their own "stretching". As soon as the class started the with choreographer begin with his first step. He gave a good class but not the usual type of classes I attend to in the Philippines. They usually start with an intro about the piece and what to focus on when doing the class which eventually came up during my class here. The technique and choreography is good. :)
