I recommend calling ahead to see if they have open table hours, when you can work on projects and get tips from the staff (not available during classes or active sales). Kathy Jo was so friendly and helpful. She help us custom cut our leather belt, punch holes, and burnish it. She even taught us how to use ethe tools ourselves and showed us an easy four braid we could use for the cutoff pieces. read more

I have taken many classes at Tandy's and when I first walked into the store around a year and a half Nick can up to me and asked how he could help. I looked at him and said no clue haha. But he figured out what I was looking to do and helped me on the path. A year and half later I took a refresher class in pattern making just because sometimes it's good as you get to doing the same thing you forget things. It was well organized and executed well. Horrible Service & Employee! Kathy Jo! Kathy Jo was very rude and called me by my incorrect pronouns and didn't even bother to ask. Just disrespectful and would then assume and tell people I was a he/him and I am not. Very awkward experience and do not recommend this place. Kathy Jo even made off putting comments about what I was wearing the whole thing was just odd. Then called the product I was looking for goth. Amazing place! I went a couple times to look around and ask questions before deciding on taking a Tote bag making class to get started. They were extremely helpful, patient, and just plain good company. I not only got a great understanding of leather working process, but felt extremely accomplished and left loving the bag I made in class! I'm signing up for more classes right away: Saturday classes appear to be extensive-you would walk away with a project completed and possibly extra leather for a fee. The Wednesday classes appear to be geared towards learning a skill, such as tooling or carving, and they are free. read more

The vegan in me gives this place one star, nostalgic side in me give this place five stars (I grew up horseback riding) and the artist in me gives this place 4 stars. Looking at this place as an objectively as possible it seems to have everything. My friend whom sews wanted to stop in since it was next to Copper Mine Brewery. It has everything you need for your leather making adventures. I did love looking at the ornate, jeweled, and unique belt buckles. The stamps to mark leather were numerous and fun too. I cannot speak about the prices since it's not my area. The extras like snaps and glues and stamps (so on) seemed like a good price. The staff was friendly too. Overall if this is you niche the store seems like a good bet. For me, not my cup of tea but I appreciated the detour. read more

Love, love, love the store in Tucson! The staff is always helpful, polite and patient even with newbies like me! Believe me if a mistake can be made, I make it. I came into the store as a complete novice and a project on my mind. The staff manager walked around with me for like an hour (while still helping everyone else who came in with questions), and helped me get the tools and material I needed while not trying to push stuff on me I didn't. All the while she was spending the time to show me how the tools worked. It's clear she has a love for her craft, and helping others find there way in it as well. But after having to go to checkout and finding they want 9 bucks for a cheap pot metal buckle, 23 for a 2 inch blank of vegetable tan and almost that for a 1/2 inch piece of latigo I reckon Amazon or anywhere is a lot better. In fact the Mexican at tanque verde is better priced for the same quality. read more

Wow! This place is totally awesome. I just visited for my first time and my initiation into leather work. The goal was to make a couple simple leather keychains for a gift and the team here went all out to help me. They walked me through the whole process and helped me make them right there on the spot. Totally beyond what I expected. These guys are great and they know what they're doing. They're ready and willing to help. I will come back. This place is a Tucson gem. read more

I've been to a number of Tandy Leather stores, and this is my favorite so far. Their shop is very well-stocked and organized. Their selection for veg-tan leather is excellent! They had a beautiful variety of other specialty leathers. I especially appreciated how helpful and friendly their staff was. The drive from Oro Valley to the south side was long, but certainly worth the trip. I hope to come back soon! read more

The store itself is clean and tidy, however the cashier was completely rude. We waited for at least 10 minutes with no one else in the store for him to get off of the phone and not once did he say that he would be right with us or acknowledge us in any way. They have a wide variety of leather supplies and if they don't have it they can tell you where you can get it. They proviced classes to inspire you. I love their "open " days to come in and ask lots of questions and see if things will work for me. They are friendly and know each customer by name and can multi-task pretty well since there is always lots of customers at this location. read more
