I started Rassam, hoping to enjoy a light soup of wich i have fond memories from my trips to India…read more Sadly what they call Rassam is a thick, bland, fatty/ creamy imposter, it is not even worthy being called a good tomato cream soup. It didn't even have Tamarind in it. The only reason i give this Place 2 stars is because the staff was nice and gave me a small drink during my waiting time. The Vishnu Thali was decent, but again quite bland and had too much cream. It might be unfair to compare it to indian food in India but i just can't forget those authentic tastes. Over all I wouldn't recomend it even if their opening hours and staff are quite accomodating. A restaurant with bad food is just not worth going to.

Yesterday I had dinner with a friend and in the food they brought us, I found tiny pieces of porcelain which fell off a tile in the kitchen. There were 2 small pieces and several other tiny ones. They took it away and brought us new. I was expecting an apology or a discount, but I got nothing. When I tried to pay their machine gave a system failure, and all the waiter did was complaining that since he's the one who locked the machine it will come off his wages. too bad for the waiter, but from a restaurant that all of it's waiters know me by name and say hi to me on the street, I expected a little more. I doubt that I'll ever eat there again.

Saravanaa Bhavan is one of the great Indian restaurant chains of the world…read more The West is finally starting to appreciate what Saravanaa Bhavan has been trying to do all along. Most great cities now have rivals to Saravanaa Bhavan that command respect. The fact that there are other centers of excellence out there does nothing to diminish Saravanaa Bhavan's historical accomplishment. * * * Saravanaa Bhavan is a chain of South Indian vegetarian restaurants in Chennai that expanded first across India itself, and then followed the Indian diaspora to set up satellite restaurants all over the world. The number of Saravanaa Bhavan's in a city reflects less the overall stature of a city in the global urban hierarchy and more reflects the size of the South Indian population that has migrated to that city. Berlin has one Saravanaa Bhavann. The Dallas Metro area has three. Berlin outranks Dallas in the Global Cities Hierarchy But Dallas has the large population of Tamil immigrants. That said, the successful implantation of Saravanaa Bhavan's all over the world is impressive. They operate nearly 100 restaurants in twenty eight different countries not counting their substantial operations in India itself. * * * Saravanaa Bhavan's culinary accomplishment was twofold. a) They introduced much of the world to South Indian vegetarian food. In much of the world, they would have been the first restaurant to serve dosas, idli, and the distinctive South Indian rather than north Indian curries. b) They introduced much of the world to Indian Chinese food - the reinterpretation of Chinese food that was developed in India. Gobi Manchurian - one of the most intoxicating dishes on the planet - would have had its first serving in many cities in a Saravanaa Bhavan. Their menu was huge. They included North Indian as well as South Indian specialties. You could eat at a Saravanaa Bhavan for weeks and never repeat a dish. And the execution was absolutely positively excellent. Nearly everything that came out of their kitchen was to die for. * * * Saravanaa Bhavan is just as good today as it ever was. However, as the flow of South Indian immigrant professionals grew and grew, the number of South Indian immigrant restauranteurs grew as well. There was money to be made serving the great dishes from home ... And more and more people went to the exotic cities of the world to re-create those fine South Indian dishes in foreign locations. So now all of those cities have many places you can go where you can get absolutely wonderful South Indian and Indian-Chinese vegetarian dishes. I live in Austin, Texas which does not have a Saravanaa Bhavan - but has a vast number of South Indian software engineers, professors and doctors. They eat at Sangam Chettinad which is an absolutely superlative establishment. * * * That said, I will always grab a chance to eat at a Saravanaa Bhavan if there is one in the city I am in. One tip that may be helpful. Don't put your food on the white rice that accompanies most of their dishes. The flavors of Saravanaa Bhavan's dishes are so wonderful that you do not want to dilute them. Putting their food on plain rice is like serving their food on Wonder Bread. Eating their stuff straight up though is like dying and going to heaven. Except that the next day you get reincarnated and can do the same thing again.

My friend who had a dosa for the first time was completely satisfied with the dosa. The chutneys were fantastic as well and the idlis were oh so fluffy. There probably aren't many cuisines you can't find in Berlin, but I was still surprised to see a…read moreTibetan restaurant. Warm and cozy, decorated with candles and photos of Tibet, Little Tibet serves staples such as momos (dumplings), noodle soups, rice dishes, and a few wok-fried meats. Torn between the shaptak shoko (stir-fried beef, veggies, and potato) and a mixed momo dish, the momos won out. Six steamed and six fried dumplings (three each of minced beef & ginger/spinach & cheese) served with a light salad in a yogurt dressing and a sweet chili based dipping sauce. The momos were surprisingly light but did not skimp on the filling. It made for a satisfying (and, at €8, quite cheap) meal.

Longer version (for the brave) - we arrived to this place after literally trying every option of Asian food there is, besides Tibetan. It was time. So we sat outside as the weather was nice and ordered vegetarian starters (Tsa pakora and veggie fried pockets). Watch out, as it is served HOT! got a burn from the spinach :) But it was delicious, and quite a big dish for a starter, each of them came with two dips too. I loved the Tsa pakora, it was crispy and had great flavors. For the main dish I had a traditional Tibetan dish, sorry but I forgot its name... Seasoned rice with veggies and beef with some cashews on top and an interesting curry sauce, it tastes a bit different than other curries I have tried before and it's not too spicy for those of you who can't handle it, no worries :) My friend had fried momos with cheese and spinach, I'd like to try them next time but with some meat inside, got a feeling it would taste much much better! The dishes are very big, I was kinda full half way through but it was so good I kept digging in it almost until I finished it all! Service was great and we had a great experience, the prices are really good and overall we just had great fun, no doubt I'll come again soon! All the reviews here really justify everything about this place, hopefully mine does too :)
