We ordered curry goat, butter chicken, onion naan, and aloo nann. The butter chicken was everything you want your butter chicken to be, spicy, creamy and flavorful with nice bite sized pieces of chicken. It was good, but it wasn't incredible. The curry goat was deliciously flavorful and the goat was falling off the bones tender, but it was full of small bones and cartilage to chew around which didn't bother my man but is worth mentioning in case that's something you're grossed out by. Not a lot of actual meat in the end. The onion naan came to the table accidentally but we decided to keep it as well as the aloo naan we actually ordered. Both were crispy on the outside soft on the inside, the onion didn't do much for me, I mean it was fine but if I had actually ordered a second basket of naan I would have chosen garlic, this one just tasted plain to me. The Aloo on the other hand was better, a bit of spice with tiny little pieces of potatoes inside.. our waiter was great, minus the language barrier which was why we ended up just keeping the onion naan, but we can't fault him for that, we were the ones who wanted to eat at an Indian restaurant. The restaurant itself is huge and kinda tacky. It looks like it used to be an Italian restaurant by the murals on the walls. It must get really busy on the days they do the buffet or something because the night we went there was only one other dude eating in the dining room the whole time. I read the reviews before we went and there are tons of rave reviews so I thought it would be a little bit better than it was but it was still really good and I would definitely go back for their buffet to try more of their dishes.

I ordered butter chicken, naan bread, and a large beer. I asked for the butter chicken to be spicy and it was so delicious. The chicken was so tender, I didn't even need to use a knife to cut it. When the waiter asked me how everything was, I told him it was so spicy it made my nose run which by the way is a compliment because I asked for it extra spicy.

Our last visit to Masala was about 6 years ago. Different owner and excellent food. Arjun, the…read morecurrent owner, was working the Tuesday night we were here. Apparently almost every restaurant in Ashland is closed on Tuesdays, so he was our server on this slow evening. We are prone to splitting meals since restaurants almost always serve too much food. So we decided to share the Butter Chicken. After ordering, Arjun was excited about the Cauliflower Manchurian appetizer and coaxed us into ordering it. He assured us we would not be disappointed. We were not. We LOVED it! A great mix of cauliflower chunks, moderately-spicy sauce and full flavors. Our Butter Chicken was equally good. Chicken was cooked perfectly, not dry but moist and very flavorful. Typically, for our tastes, Indian food runs a little hotter than others so we usually order medium spice, not hot. Our only regret is that we didn't order hot. It was very flavorful, but could have had a bit more kick for our preferences. All in all, we enjoyed (again) our dinners.

I asked the waiter if the "basmati" rice with the biryani on the menu was real whole grain--not extruded rice, which is a high-heat-processed rice product more like pasta. He said it was real rice, but it was not. It makes me wonder about other ingredients. The advertised "GF nan" I suspect is a frozen gf pizza crust heated up (texture tough and tasted old). Not one dish was exceptional and a few were flavorless. I and my family will not eat here again.

We should have dined in but we ate back at the hotel and the food was incredible. The aloo mutter was very flavorful, with tender potatoes and perfectly cooked peas. Ambience is nearly non-existent, but it's in a truck stop so what would one expect?! Seriously. Folks don't go to truck stops for ambience or anything bougie. Now the food: I had the Goat Curry, which came with a solid portion of their Basmati rice with caraway seeds cooked into it. It is absolutely outstanding. Rich and slightly greasy the way good curry should be. A very rich brown curry sauce with loads and layers of flavor. Note for persnickety Americans: Goat anything is traditionally a bit greasy, and should be eaten with a bit of caution because there WILL be bits of bone, fat and well cooked gristle. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY NORMAL with goat anything. You've been warned fair and square!! There was a generous amount of meat in the 16 ounces of curry, and the flavor was absolutely amazing. There's almost no flour in this curry. Instead they thickened it with well cooked veggies, and the depth/breadth of flavor with layers was glorious.. The heat level, ordered stock standard, was moderate, but if you like seriously hot stuff just ask. Well done for $21.00 out the door. Had I known then what I know now, I would have also ordered some dosa and the chutney. I'll be back every time the company sends me through the area. I'm not the most adventurous when it comes to Indain food, so I mostly just stick to Tandoori Chicken and Tikka Masala over that basmati rice. Oh yeah, I love the naan bread too. The place is a bit off the freeway, so I let the GPS do the directing. You head south on the 99 off the 5 and it's down a ways on the right, set back from the street by the big parking lot. Lots of easy parking. The lunch buffet looks like most Indian buffets. The server took our drink orders and we ordered several orders of the naan bread. The interior was pleasant as well. We all go up to the buffet and there's plenty to choose from for everybody. Me, I get the Tandoori chicken and the tikka masala poured over some of the basmati rice. This is all I need to be happy.
