**You'll be very happy with your experience at Tan!
I am however very disappointed in some of the negative reviewers very distorted visuals, so let me clear things up from a regular members perspective.
As an ex- manager of another Tanning salon in the Bay Area, and I'd say, major consumer- I understand the issues that come into play.
Let's flip the script for a moment, imagine YOU spent many MANY -THOUSANDS of dollars on tanning beds, rented a space in an upscale mini-mall, put up visible signs with regard to lotions allowed/disallowed, asked folks not to wear jewelry that might scrape the very delicate surfaces, and then opened YOUR DOORS to the general public, 'come on in and lay down on my beds.' And almost immediately the rules are out the window. People using Hawaiian Tropic, Coppertone, etc; going in with wet nail polish; when the times up- instead of patiently waiting while the system shuts down, deciding to push up on the bed hinges, or pulling it down in the first place-
Ask yourself- how many times are you going to replace all of these broken abused components?
I've always been impressed with the timely routine maintenance. And up to date bed options.
Invite The 'General Public,' to your home, to sit around on your furniture, lay in your bed, borrow your towels, robes, and have a handful of folks, one at a time in charge of managing all of this, and so SO much more.
Before you complain about an intensely personal business, THINK.
You know, this just might be a families livelihood.
*** I KNOW Tanning. Due to my own business, I've tanned in L.A. Wisconsin San Francisco Denver and New Orleans. I've had privilege of being with Tan, off and on for a number of years now, and in EVERY TANNING SALON, there are beds you 'think, work better than others, (all in your head) sometimes bulbs go out, you know- your only dealing with approx. 1-200 individual light bulbs; yep occasionally you'll show up and one or two might be out- maintenance people aren't just sitting around waiting to open up each bed, and replace a light when one goes out- it MAKES ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE WHATSOEVER. If you tan regularly, use the PROPER PRODUCT, and take care of your skin at home- IE EXFOLIATE... you'll enjoy a beautiful natural even looking tan, at this establishment PERIOD.
*The staff has ALWAYS been friendly, helpful, and accommodating. As with any business where 'human beings,' are your host, you GET WHAT YOU GIVE. Santa Cruz is filled with 'The Living Entitled...' and Jesus Christ that can weigh heavily on anyone. But I've never experienced anything but warm friendly help.
*So clean!! I've seen it all. But never at Tan. As a nurse who has personal 'Cleanliness expectations' I've never raised an eyebrow-
*Why am I so passionate about this? Because I spend about 5 hours a week here. I also enjoy a 'Red Light Bed,' membership- so I'm tanning and again, taking the time to care for my skin, I have neuropathy and Tans Red Light Bed has helped enormously.
*For you 'Spray Tanners-' how about NOT waiting until the last minute before your - Prom, or Wedding, whatever event, go in and try it a month beforehand. KNOWING WHAT YOU'RE DOING is helpful too. Everyone has to have a 'first day on the job alone.' Having some experience yourself, in anything you do, especially something that's so important to you, is always advisable.
*I HIGHLY RECOMMEND 'Tan.' But be nice. Have some respect- You aren't 'special,' 'More Important,' or 'better,' than anyone else, WEDDING OR NOT! Try and comprehend the kind of garbage these folks have to deal with- day in and day out, often times, expensive and time consuming to fix.
