While driving through the neighborhood, I spotted this inviting park with a walking trail and decided to stop and check it out. The park is named after the Tamiami Trail, a historic road completed in 1928 that linked Florida's east and west coasts through the Everglades and Big Cypress Preserve.
Tamiami Trail Park is often confused with the much larger 247 acre Tamiami Park located nearby. Although this park is much smaller, it is still a pleasant destination for an afternoon outing. In addition to the walking trail, which I enjoyed, there is a large open field for recreation and play. The park also features a covered red-and-white playground with climbing equipment, including wheelchair accessible and adaptive swings.
The trees throughout the park are lovely and provide plenty of welcome shade. I especially enjoyed the blooming Royal Poinciana trees, which added vibrant color to the park. A sign in the park indicated that a dog park is scheduled to open in December of this year. This new amenity will be a wonderful addition for residents and dog owners in the community. read more
