I've had several pap smears in my life since I am of a certain age. The experience I had here was…read morepainful, I felt like the doctor used a much larger speculum than necessary as insertion and especially pulling out hurt. The day after, my lower back hurt a LOT. This has never happened before and the pain lasted for 2 days. This also sounds weird but the very second the doctor went to my crotch during the pelvic exam (I could not see her because of the gown covering my legs), I could hear laughter erupt right outside the room. After the appointment when I went to check out, I made eye contact with 2 receptionists who were smirking at me in a way that would suggest that they knew something or were laughing at me specifically. I did a double-take because I was taken aback by these looks. They caught my eye again and avoided my gaze afterwards. This might seem like nothing but the combination of the well-timed laughter, the looks of malicious glee from the 2 receptionists, as well as an uncomfortable smirk from the doctor herself as she looked down at my body when escorting me out of the room (after pelvic exam and breast exam), leads me to believe that my privacy was deeply violated. I'm not sure what exactly happened but I feel extremely uncomfortable by my experience and I won't be coming back.

She doesn't…read morerush through the appointments and just really takes the time to listen and even asks "what else?", giving me the time to really open up with any questions or concerns. The rest of the office staff are lovey, too. And during a really difficult health experience I had recently, the office called and checked in with me outside of any visits just to see how I was doing--just a little touch of human compassion like that can really go a long way. Plus, the gowns they give you to wear during your exams at this office are real cotton gowns that can fully wrap around you instead of those cheap paper "gowns" some clinics give that are scratchy and don't cover anything. Little touches like that just makes coming to this office feel so much more dignified and cared for than some other places I've been.

Surgery can be scary with so much uncertainty. The only minor surgery I ever had before that point was dental or having my tonsils removed as a kid. Twenty something years later, I was scared to death! The staff at Contemporary OB-Gyn Associates were so patient and understanding. They dealt with my hundreds of questions, OCD-like cautious nervousness and scrutiny prior to surgery. My surgeon was Dr. Andrew Block and he was excellent! Dr. Ronald Jacobs referred me to him as an expert for the type of procedure I wanted. They are both so friendly and approachable. Dr. Block is recommended as the top laparoscopic surgeon for a salpingectomy, tubal ligations and similar. He is transparent, kind and very empathetic. He will have conversations with you prior to surgery to make sure this is something you want to do and also make suggestions or alternatives. Contemporary OB-Gyn has different locations. I've been to the Silver Spring, Laurel and Rockville locations. I think it's great that they have different office locations to accommodate your schedule. I give this such a high rating because Contemporary OB-Gyn walked me through a surgery process that always has risks. They took care of me.

You set up an appointment thinking it's for the location you call, but no! You're wrong. Her medical assistants/nurses aides appear to be equally as unprofessional. There are so many things that went wrong that I don't know where to start. In hindsight I should have walked out of the office immediately when the Dr entered the exam room wearing "short" shorts and blue patent leather boots. Yes, you read that right! She essentially had on booty shorts/hot pants/daisy dukes- whatever you choose to call them, it was a mess. My one and only visit to this office should have ended at that moment. First impressions go a long way and I found her attire to be an unpleasant distraction, thank God she wore a lab coat!!! She performed a routine exam, then recommended an ultrasound with a radiology clinic right down the hall. I did as I was instructed and was told that my Dr would follow up with my results. Well, she never did. Fast forward two weeks and two messages later- I call again requesting a response by the end of the business day. The receptionist calls back with this... "the Dr wants to know what you need to talk to her about". How about my results??? Not to mention that in my messages I made it clear what I was following up on. I was put on hold and then the receptionist (never spoke to the Dr) comes back to say that she doesn't have my results. Dr apparently had no recollection or documentation in the chart that she even sent me for the ultrasound. Ugh... After trying to keep my cool for several minutes, I decided that it was time to give the middle man a piece of my mind. I will be retrieving my records Asap!!! Horrible experience.

She insulted me because I am a Plus size woman. She would blame the fact that I was "big" as the answer to questions instead of investigating to determine the direct cause. On one visit when I ask a question she had a very nasty attitude and stormed out of the office. What doctor would do that especially to a pregnant woman???Although everything at the hospital went well and my son was born without any complications , I would NEVER go to her again!

I haven't actually seen the doctor yet but I thought I'd write a review while waiting. I'm…read morecurrently here in the waiting area. My appointment was at 10:30 and I got here at 10:15 to fill out paperwork. It is currently 11:30 as I am typing this review. This practice is only one doctor so maybe that's why the wait time is so long? I need to be seen today as I am traveling across the country in a week, otherwise I would leave. Please know you will wait at least an hour to be seen. I will update once I have my actual appointment. Plus: the receptionist is very friendly and kind and seems to know all the patients that have come in thus far. Update: I was officially seen at 11:45, even though my appointment was at 10:30. There's only one doctor here and it appears only one receptionist. Pros: -the doctor is an elderly woman who has a lot of experience. I felt she was an expert and knew exactly what she was talking about. -consultation: she took my health history before my examination and asked me lots of questions to understand my history -thorough examination. I felt like she was thorough and complete when doing the physical examination Cons: -a little curt - I'm not sure if it's due to her age but I felt like she was rushing me a little when she felt she didn't understand what I was saying. For instance, I put on my intake sheet that I was on CD 42 and I hadn't ovulated which means Cycle Day 42 and she was like, I don't know what that means. Why don't you just say 'no period or amennorhea? -she told me to undress completely and left the room. When she came back, I wasn't done undressing and she just came in and got her tools ready while I was undressing. Every other doctor I have seen waits until I'm done and then knocks & asks if I'm done before coming in after I'm told to undress -a little insensitive - she gave me what she thought the issue, took blood and told me to call back on Monday. I asked her what would next steps be were her diagnosis correct, and her response was, "I don't know it's your choice!" -challenged me on my choice of how to manage a health issue: as I was explaining a diagnosis I had been given at 17, I was explaining how I manage it with herbs and diet. And she went on to tell me that it cannot be managed that way and that I will always have that issue. I told her that in my experience, I was having success with managing it that way, and she more or less told me I was wrong. All in all, this doctor knows her stuff for sure but her demeanor can be a little bristling for women who are a little more on the sensitive/meek side. She's definitely not rude. Her receptionist is extremely sweet. Go at your own risk.
