Tiny portion of karage. There's more sauce than chicken!
    SoCal Foodie M.

Overall: 7/10 Price/Value & Quality: 6/10 Service: 7.5/10 I really wanted to love this spot, it's a charming family-run and owned business, and I'm always eager to support local spots like this. Unfortunately, a few quality control issues held it back from being great. Chicken Karaage: 4/10 This was a big disappointment. The pieces were hard and overly crispy (almost burnt in texture), with very little flavor. For $10, you only get about 5 small pieces--tiny portions that feel stingy compared to what you'd expect. Regardless if they portion by weight no way was it worth $10. It's chicken not lobster. Grinch Roll: 9/10 Absolutely the standout! Fresh, bold flavors with a perfect balance of spice and creaminess. This one was amazing and I'd order it again. Lucia Roll: 7/10 A solid mix of fish with a delicious accompanying sauce that really elevated it. It would've been an easy 8.5/10, but I found a shrimp shell buried in the middle of the roll (not just a visible tail-- an actual hidden shell). That kind of slip-up knocks it down a bit. Salmon Attack: 6/10 The seared salmon was decent, but the roll was overly thick and heavy without much added flavor to justify the size. It felt more filling than flavorful. The family-run vibe is wonderful, and I appreciate the effort to keep things local. However, it seems like the staff is a bit overstretched, which likely led to those quality misses (like the shell in the roll and the overdone karaage). With tax, credit card surcharge, and tip, the total neared $100, pricey for the portion sizes and inconsistencies. Also had to wait over an Hour for takeout. Supporting small businesses is great, but quality needs to match the price.

Continuing my love for tama sushi, the orenji roll (vegan) is still great! I'll be trying a new roll soon :)

I've had Tama on my list for so long, and now I can finally say I've marked it off my list, but now it's moved to my list of regs. Super happy with the entire experience. Service was perfect: attentive but not overwhelming. My server took her time walking me through the entire vegan menu. I ordered three rolls: Cute Wrap... bright veggies and wrapped in crisp cucumber. Sauce was light, but very deep in flavor and there's seaweed in the roll which is the perfect touch. Squid Game was bomb! Konjac is the squid... this role is next level and so fun! The combo of the sauces was exquisite! The baked LB was not my fav, plain water chestnuts on top of a veggie roll. It lacked any character and really needed more sauce. I'm happy to have tried it but won't order it again. Oh and did I say miso soup is on the house!!! Cannot wait to return! Inside is somewhat small but cozy. Equal amount of dining space outside. There's a private parking lot, but can be busy during peak times.

My partner and I came here because it had 4.7 rating! And wow we were so impressed. Service was amazing, and super great! We really enjoyed the salmon roll, and the Seabreeze roll! On top of that, we make the spicy edamame from home and have high expectations, but the spicy edamame here was to die for thank you so much!

Craving sushi and rushed over from Dave n Busters to make it before kitchen closes @8:45. Made it at 8:25 got to order food came quick and delicious as always. Go-to Sexy Roll never fails to fully satisfy my crave for sushi. Tried out their new Sassy Roll as well. Had a nice kick to it with the fresh scallop, also the yellowtail special. they never miss. Great ambiance and service as always, thank y'all -Danny

Quite literally the best vegan sushi I've had and I've been to over 10 spots that serve vegan sushi.

I'm not vegan, but I wanted to try this spot as it was highly recommended by my vegan friend. So I took my vegetarian bestie with me and we both loved it. The girls serving us were very sweet, attentive, filling our waters frequently, and being patient with us deciding on what to order. Being our first time there, the menu was a lot to sort through but found it very organized and easy to read. The menu had an abundance of vegan and non vegan options, and we even got complimentary miso soup. We got the Vegan Shoyu Ramen - a clear savory broth, tofu, bokchoy, enoki, another type mushroom, and ginger. Added a side of tempura shrimp for extra protein. The vegan roll Hummingbird - vegan spicy tuna, vegan baby lobster, wrapped with avo topped with spicy sauce - was the shining star! Truly enjoyed everything, even the cute beckoning cat detail on the bowls and plates.

Highly recommend this place for great quality sushi. Everything just tasted so fresh. They have a vegan and non vegan menu as well. Service was excellent and quick. It wasn't too busy when I went but parking can be an issue depending on time of day. Would definitely come back!

We've been here twice now and it's quickly become a favorite. It's a cute little neighborhood gem run by a Thai couple, and the service is always so kind and welcoming. They have a full vegan menu and a full non-vegan menu, which we really appreciate. Everything we've tried has been super fresh and delicious--especially the Tom Kha udon, which is super spicy and packed with flavor. Also love that the miso soup is free! Tons of options, great prices, and a cozy local vibe. We'll definitely keep coming back.

Attentive customer service Never had problems with parking Love the taiga roll (creamy!), hummingbird roll (creative with the chip!), and the new vegan valley roll (tempura mushroom makes me think of popcorn sushi). There's a patio, always enough parking, and they take reservations.

Ordered takeout so cannot comment on service or ambience. I ordered from the non-vegan menu, the chirashi bowl ($20) and the spicy tuna roll ($8). They do have many options for vegan sushi if that's what you're looking for. For the chirashi bowl, there wasn't much rice and the sashimi tasted fine, but I wasn't a huge fan of the cuts used. Sauce was a little too savory for my liking. The spicy tuna roll was also okay, it was a little lacking in flavor.

The vegan menu is so amazing! Wish I have a bigger stomach for having all items from the vegan menu. The service is friendly with their customers. The space is quite small that the tables are very limited but still it worths to wait.

The hostess/waitress immediately sat us down at one of the booths and gave us a paper order sheet. There are definitely great deals for drinks as we noticed ads on the wall. We ordered ramen, cooked salmon collar, and miso soup. The restaurant wasn't that noisy and the waitress was nearby folding bags. We had asked for assistance because there wasn't any boxes for additional toppings for our ramen. She asked for spice level and went off to input our order. After a short time, our ramen arrived. We were surprised how quickly the ramen came out. My friend was curious about our other orders and we inquired with our waitress. By mistake, our waitress did not place the order for the other items. She apologized and inputted the rest of our orders. The ramen looked great! However, one of the disappointments was that the ramen broth was not spicy at all. The ramen itself and broth was a 3/5. While we did enjoy the food overall. Am I itching to come back? Not that much.

By that point, my boyfriend didn't want to send the entire bowl back, so he just asked for a side of chicken and removed the pork himself. The third bowl (chicken, corn, mild, no bean sprouts) came with bean sprouts and an overwhelming amount of chili. After dealing with the first two orders, I didn't even want to send it back--I just didn't eat. It was frustrating, especially since we know how good this place can be. When I got back to work in Santa Ana and opened my bag around 2:30 p.m., my ramen had NO NOODLES. It was literally just broth and toppings. I called the restaurant expecting a simple apology and a reasonable solution. Instead, the manager would not even speak to me directly and chose to communicate through a waiter the entire time, which made the situation even more frustrating. We went back and forth multiple times with the waiter acting as the middleman. First, they told me I could come back and pick up the missing noodles. That was not realistic. I was already back at work, and it takes me about 25 minutes to get from Fountain Valley to Santa Ana. Driving all the way back for a side of noodles made no sense. So I asked for what seemed like the easiest and most reasonable solution: a complimentary bowl of ramen on my next visit. Instead, I was told no, but they could give me "extra noodles" next time. Extra noodles next time? What exactly was that supposed to do for me when I was sitting there hungry with no actual ramen to eat that day? Then the manager, again through the waiter, said she would personally drive noodles to my job. I even told them that did not make sense because by the time she got there, it would be around 4:30 p.m. At that point, my lunch break would be long over, the ramen would be cold, and all of it would be a waste of my time, her time, restaurant resources, and gas. But I agreed, because at that point it was obvious they really did not want to simply offer me a free bowl of ramen on my next visit. And to be clear, I was not asking for some huge free meal. I was asking to be compensated for the ramen I already paid good money for and did not even receive correctly. For how expensive ramen is, that should not have been a difficult ask. About 10 minutes later, the waiter called back and said the manager would give me a free bowl of ramen next time I came in, which was the exact solution I had suggested from the start. I can only assume she realized how far the drive was and how unnecessary and impractical that solution would have been. Mistakes happen. Forgetting the noodles was one thing. But the way this was handled was unnecessarily difficult, inconvenient, and honestly kind of absurd. I did not ask for a refund. I was looking for an apology and some common-sense customer service. Instead, I got a lot of back-and-forth and a manager who would not even speak to me directly. Kudos to the waiter for doing their best to mediate the situation. Even they thought the situation could of been handled differently by the manager. Very disappointing experience. I will not be returning, and I would not recommend this place to others based on how this situation was handled.

A Legendary Slurp - Gone But Never Forgotten It is a true…read moretragedy for the Orange County food scene that Hakata Ikkousha in Costa Mesa has closed its doors. This wasn't just a "ramen joint"--it was a masterclass in authentic Fukuoka-style soul food. The Broth: Liquid Gold The standout was always their Signature Tonkotsu broth. You could literally taste the 30+ hours of labor that went into it. It had that distinct "frothy" texture (the bubble of the bone marrow) that you only find in high-end Hakata shops. It was rich, creamy, and carried a deep umami funk without ever being overly greasy. The Hits * Black Tonkotsu: The roasted garlic oil (mayu) added a smoky, dark complexity that ruined all other garlic ramens for me. * God Fire: For those who like to sweat, this offered the perfect balance of heat without sacrificing the integrity of the pork flavor. * The Karaage: Genuinely some of the best fried chicken in the area. Massive, juicy thigh meat with a shattering, thin crust and that addictive spicy mayo on the side. * Customization: I loved that they let you pick your noodle firmness. "Hard" was the only way to go to ensure that perfect snap with every bite. The Atmosphere The Costa Mesa location always had a great energy--functional, clean, and unpretentious. The staff were always efficient, greeting everyone with a loud "Irasshaimase!" that made the experience feel truly authentic. It's heartbreaking to see such a high-caliber spot leave the neighborhood. If you were lucky enough to eat here, you know we lost a heavy hitter. To the team at Ikkousha: thank you for the memories and the best bowls in the city. You'll be sorely missed! Note: For those still craving that specific broth, their Torrance locations are still holding it down--definitely worth the drive to keep the dream alive. Come back to OC! !

Both had such a rich, deep flavor. I haven't had a broth as good. The chicken karaage was also slept on. It came with just salt and mayo, and it was simple, juicy, and crispy. One day, I'll go to the Torrance location and try Hakata again. Until then...
