Some great views from the train through Alaska.
    Rod C.

In the middle of a 10 day train tour of Alaska. This tour is called Alaska by daylight. They have many different ones ranging I think from seven days to two weeks. They'll set up your whole itinerary with different excursions each day. I've done things like jet boat ride on the river, hiking, dinner theater and more. A lot of the train rides are about 3 to 4 hours they also have a dining car with pretty good food breakfast lunch and dinner. They have this thing called gold star service where you have an upstairs car that you ride in with glass roof and walls that you can really see out well and take in the scenery in nature. One of the nights they forgot to set me up for a hotel which turned into a bit of a nightmare but it was OK. I would suggest reading through the itinerary making sure you have a hotel each night, transportation and a way to have food. All in all a great way to have a vacation.

There we tons of songbirds seranading us in the trees. The last two zips near the lake were my favorite. Simply beautiful. Also really enjoyed the rappel. We are already planning our next ziplining adventure with their sister company in Seward which apparently includes 3 rappels.

Done here once and I don't think I would repeat again type level. Yes it was beautiful and all but excitement level was just an average for me. It's still fun way to spend a few hours outdoors safely. You may want to use a mosquito repellent prior to your arrival. While mosquitoes may not come up high, we eventually have to come down, and they are a lot of them here.

My hubby and I were split up between the front and back of the boat, but the ladies I sat next to were also teachers and we had fun talking. The rubber overboots were hard to walk in, but since a few folks jumped the gun and got out of the float early, it protected their shoes. The safety overview was fun ... and they took my snarky comments well. Getting in/out of the float was actually not bad! Our guide was fun and informative. He talked to us about the how/why of steering the raft. We talked about plants. We battled the other float (NOTE: This was really one smack of the oars with silly trash talk, but that was great to watch.) We got to see Denali. I'm pretty sure that I got 5-drops of water wet in front and my hubby got one splash in the back. I hatched multiple eggs using AT&T and letting the app run while floating down the river. Afterwards, the tour guides talked to me about Pokemon Go! We left a bunch of regionals in the Pokemon Go gyms for folks that might not have them in their Pokedexes. We chose to walk back, which was great! We stopped by many cute shops, including Silverbear Sundries for some Devil's Club balm for my many mosquito bites, Village Arts & Crafts for some art, and Shirley's Homemade Ice Cream for some Northern Lights ice cream! Honestly, after the jet boat experience yesterday, I almost cancelled our float tour today and that would have been bad. I can't think of anything that would top our Kenai float tour, but that's because a moose heading straight for the raft behind you will probably never happen again. (The Kenai huge stuffed bear sitting in a chair as we left was a cute touch.)

Alaska Off-Road Adventures…read more What a ride! This was hands-down one of the best experiences we had while visiting Alaska; it's an incredibly unique way to get out and see the amazing mountain views and Alaskan terrain. Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced ATV rider, Alaska Off-Road Adventures has something for everyone. Ken took the time to get us acquainted with the vehicles and then led us on a fun ride over many varying terrain elements. He had a wonderful personality and really made this trip feel special. We had 4 drivers and 1 rider with varying degrees of ATV-familiarity and by the end of the tour every single one of us had grins from ear-to-ear (and just the right amount of mud splattered on us!). Ken's ATV tour is something that my family still talks about months after our trip. If you're choosing between activities while visiting, or passing through, Talkeetna, I can't recommend this tour enough! It blows your run-of-the-mill tour out of the water!

Ken (tour operator) after giving us helmets, boots, and rain gear, took us out to test our ability on flat gravel roads. Within minutes we hit rocky, hilly, sometimes water covered terrain. What a ride! Ken stopped at photo spots and even rode ahead of us to get really great action shots. We will always remember this as a highlight of our Alaska vacation. Thanks Ken! The two hour tour left us with smiles on our faces and well worked shoulder muscles. Well worth the money! Just do it!

I called early in the morning and let it be known that I wanted a flight on one of two days, time didn't matter. I was contacted a couple of hours later to let me know I could join three others on a flight at 4 pm. Yay! The ground crew (sorry didn't get names) were very helpful and supplied dark sunglasses and overshoes (the glacier landing was a bit mushy for my tennis shoes). Chris gave a great safety briefing and we were off. They don't fly if the weather is hiding all of the mountains and glaciers. We had some clouds, which I think added some mystery to the sights. The small Beaver plane had room for 5 plus the pilot (you got to let him com) but ther were only 4. I got the back seat so I could see out both sides. The plane was clean and the flight was generally smooth. The pictures just can't do justice to the amazing views and the scale of the mountains and glaciers.
