(Musical Theater 1, Musical Theater 2, tap 1, tap/ballet , jazz and HipHop)He went from a boy with anxiety to this confident performer. He was in his second musical Mary Poppins this past weekend. To see him perform with the biggest smile made me cry. He was confident and was so excited about the show. The show was AMAZING!!!!!!!!It's been great watching not just my son but many of the cast members just grow in theater. Thank You Mr.Frank and Mrs.Yesenia for bringing out the best in my son. He himself thanked them after the show for teaching him the songs and the choreography. All his teachers are all wonderful , Mrs.Megan , Miss. Larissa, Miss. Jenna, Miss. Jack , thank you ALL for not giving up on my son. A special shout out to Miss. Jack. Andrew wanted to try tap. Since the class has been practicing for a few months Andrew felt discouraged since they were already learning the song that they will be performing on the summer showcase. After trying the class he didn't want to continue since he was just starting and felt lost. Miss Jack told him she sees his talent and he can do it. She told him to come back the next week and try again. He tried again and he felt that he couldn't do it. Miss.Jack told him to think about it , she believes in him, if he still don't feel comfortable he can enroll after the summer showcase and start from the beginning. She was very sweet to him. On our way home he decided he wanted to continue!!! His words " mom , Miss.Jack believes in me. I want to take her class , I can do it " He's doing amazing. She knew how much he did want to take her class and encouraged him. I can't wait to see him on stage in June for the summer showcase. I also want to give a shout out to the parent volunteers. They're very helpful, it was so nice to hear from them how Andrew has grown so much in theater. Another shout out to Kyle , the front receptionist for being helpful and answering my million questions haha. Us parents don't just cheer for our kids we cheer for all the kids. I am thankful I found Valverde. They have help mold my son in this confident , happy , positive young performer. Can't wait to see him continue growing in theater !! If you are considering this studio , give them a call. Your child can try a class for free. Everyone there is wonderful!

A few seconds into my audition, one of the judges interrupted me to say I couldn't participate in the play unless I was also enrolled in two of their paid classes. I explained that I was just hoping for the chance to audition, and my parents couldn't afford the additional classes. One of the judges reacted kindly and started to explain the process to me, but another judge cut her off with a cold, curt "Thank you, that will be all," and kicked me out of the room. Kids hear no all the time, but there was something so callous about her tone that it stayed with me after all these years. I'm in my 30s now, and this memory came rushing back when I found Theatre 360 flyers in my parents' mailbox. Looking back, I realize they had created a pay-to-play setup presented as open auditions for children. It takes a lot of courage for a kid to memorize a monologue, figure out public transportation, and perform in front of strangers. To cut a child off mid-audition and dismiss them so coldly showed a lack of empathy from the adults in charge. If this is how they handled kids who were simply not aware of their prerequisites, I'd question management's motives and how much they actually care about the kids here.

The classes were expensive $690 (including workshop materials) - for art of acting and $790 (including workshop materials) - for musical theatre. We chose the musical theatre, since my son loves musicals and we wanted to give it a try. From my son perspective, he enjoy the classes and had a great time; although he felt there was too much free time doing nothing. Classes were offered on sat from 8:30am-12:30pm. I asked my son to be open minded and give it a try. By the 5th class, I asked my son if they were using any props or workshop materials and he said no. Then I thought, ok maybe at the end they will provide the workshop materials or scenography or costumes. But the day of the presentation came, nothing was provided to the kids. The worst part is that my son was out of the camera vision (even though he said he was in the point he was instructed) and we ended up seeing nothing on the video link they sent us. It is the worst money spent. We try to spoke with the teacher twice and requested at least the 50% refund, since she did not provided what was promised to us. We had never been in this situation before. We love our community and our area. We like the teacher and understand the pandemic situation. However, that doesn't give her the right to keep the money for a job not well done. Specially if she noticed and email us replying that she wouldn't like to redo the whole thing only for one kid, but didn't offer any other solution and when we requested the money back, she just ignored us. Not professional, not nice to act like that. We of course wont be back and next time we will carefully check reviews of other places before we signed my son for this classes.

The best part was that this entire event was free, which was a pleasant surprise considering how much I've spent to see anything Phantom of the Opera related in the past. The screening featured appearances by the great grand daughter of Lon Chaney, the actor who played the Phantom, as well as the composer of the evening's score, Scott Lasky. This was such a nice surprise by the theater, and I'm amazed at the effort put into a free event. (Still waiting to see a theater [safely] recreate the famous chandelier scene). The theater is also owned by the city of La Mirada, so it's nice to see the city investing in making arts more accessible for the public. The theater was clean and tidy inside, and the seats felt spacious compared to other theaters. The venue staff were friendly and efficient, and actively managed the bathroom ques to keep it flowing quickly, which I had never seen before but wish more venues implemented. Parking was spacious and plentiful, as the theater sits in a plaza and has a shared lot with other restaurants and a gym. I will definitely be looking to come back to the La Mirada theater for future screenings or productions.

So a few weeks ago, my partner was looking into local Broadway shows and remembered me mentioning…read morehow much I loved Phantom of the Opera. That's when he stumbled upon a free community event hosted by the La Mirada Symphony and La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts. Not only was this such a thoughtful gesture on his part, but it also turned out to be a really lovely evening with lots of interesting twists! This was actually my first time watching a silent film, and it made me realize there were a lot more film versions of Phantom of the Opera than I originally thought. The film we saw was the 1925 version directed by Rupert Julian, accompanied by the La Mirada Symphony performing a newly compiled score that followed the film scene by scene. As a Phantom fan, I thought this was such an incredibly unique way to experience a classic. Outside of the people lucky enough to be in that auditorium that evening, who else can honestly say they've been able to bask in such an eclectic silent film experience, backed by a live orchestra bringing all the drama to life? Not many people, I'll tell you that much. And the best part of the silent film was the subtitles, hahahaha. +1 for accessibility, forever and always! And don't even get me STARTED on the unexpected celebrity guest appearances because I'm still shooketh. Tell me how I blinked and all of a sudden, the great-granddaughter of Lon Chaney was there in person, pulling raffle tickets during intermission and announcing the winners of the giveaway baskets. THEN composer Scott Lasky himself showed up on stage at the end to take a bow. Both were such unexpected surprises, and I definitely did NOT anticipate becoming part of movie history lore that night because that was highkey pretty wild. I should also mention that this entire community event was 100% free. Admission was free, and we didn't have to reserve tickets or seats ahead of time. Parking was also free because the theatre shares a lot with UFC Gym, Wendy's, and a bunch of other businesses, so there was no need to stress about finding parking or paying for it. The show was pretty packed, but we arrived early and managed to snag decent middle seats just a few rows from the front of the stage. Big ups to the venue staff, too. They kept everything running smoothly and in an incredibly orderly fashion, from getting everyone into the auditorium to efficiently managing the restroom queues. For such a packed-out event, everything felt like a well-oiled machine. The entire experience was very buttoned-up, and I was genuinely impressed. Between the live orchestral score, the unexpected special guests, and the fact that this entire experience was at no cost to attend, this was such a memorable evening. Huge thanks to the La Mirada Symphony and La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts for putting together such a wonderful community event celebrating the arts and keeping theatre alive. I'm already looking forward to coming back for future musical and play productions!
