The classes were expensive $690 (including workshop materials) - for art of acting and $790 (including workshop materials) - for musical theatre. We chose the musical theatre, since my son loves musicals and we wanted to give it a try. From my son perspective, he enjoy the classes and had a great time; although he felt there was too much free time doing nothing. Classes were offered on sat from 8:30am-12:30pm. I asked my son to be open minded and give it a try. By the 5th class, I asked my son if they were using any props or workshop materials and he said no. Then I thought, ok maybe at the end they will provide the workshop materials or scenography or costumes. But the day of the presentation came, nothing was provided to the kids. The worst part is that my son was out of the camera vision (even though he said he was in the point he was instructed) and we ended up seeing nothing on the video link they sent us. It is the worst money spent. We try to spoke with the teacher twice and requested at least the 50% refund, since she did not provided what was promised to us. We had never been in this situation before. We love our community and our area. We like the teacher and understand the pandemic situation. However, that doesn't give her the right to keep the money for a job not well done. Specially if she noticed and email us replying that she wouldn't like to redo the whole thing only for one kid, but didn't offer any other solution and when we requested the money back, she just ignored us. Not professional, not nice to act like that. We of course wont be back and next time we will carefully check reviews of other places before we signed my son for this classes.

Preston Li's Academy of Dance - 2025 Ballet showcase! 12/6/2025

Preston Li's Academy of Dance

That perfect ballet class/teacher has eluded for 5+ years ago ever since I moved to Los Angeles…read more I've done my rounds through various ballet classes in the area, but none of them fit me just right, and I would eventually trail off from taking class. I don't blame the classes though, because I have very specific and somewhat idiosyncratic requirements for the "right" class for me and they include: 1. Good technique. You'd think this would be a given in ballet classes, but I could not believe how many classes I went to that didn't put a strong emphasis on technique. First and foremost in Preston's classes is developing a strong technical foundation. This is evident in the combinations he puts together for barre and in the center. Everything has a purpose and is a progression for later steps/combinations in the class. 2. Well paced class. Some ballet classes I've taken are way too short to get fully warmed up and have the opportunity to dance, or too much time is spent on one thing. Preston's classes are 2 hours long, and you don't feel rushed at the barre, yet you get plenty of time to dance in center. 3. Personalized instruction. I've been to too many ballet classes at other studios where I'm not sure the instructor even knows/cares that you're in the room with them. I go to class to improve and develop my dancing, and the only way to do that is to get guided feedback from the teacher. Preston provides very specific, clear instruction and feedback to the group and individual dancers. Yet at the same time, it doesn't feel like he's nagging anyone or being overly strict or demanding. 4. Movement and Artistry. Until taking Preston's class, I hadn't come across a beginner/intermediate adult ballet class that focused very much on developing artistry. Preston is a beautiful, artistic dancer, and he encourages and instructs his students on how to develop their own artistry. This is such a unique component of his class. 5. Environment. Ballet studios can have the reputation of being a bit snooty or intimidating. That's definitely not the case with Preston's classes. Everyone is friendly, and the only attitude the students have (that I've seen so far) is an eagerness to learn. Preston is a wonderful teacher. He really cares about his students and improving their quality of dancing. He's patient, funny, encouraging, and motivating. He doesn't let you go get away with dancing "lazy", but at the same time he won't force you to over turnout or kick higher than your body is comfortable with. And the cherry on top is that it's inspiring to watch him dance, even a basic port de bras.

Preston is AMAZING! He cultivates such a beautiful community in his class. Peston is such a…read moretalented teacher with grace and a sense of humor. If you're an adult looking for classes, I highly recommend his classes. I'm just returning to ballet after almost 10 years & after a month or two, I've made progress with his help. I LOVE IT! I'm always learning and he always knows just the right things to say and pint point areas to work on. Come & try it. You won't be disappointed!

My daughter has trained in a wide range of styles--jazz, lyrical, tap, and ballet--and the quality of instruction across the board has been outstanding. The teachers and staff are not only highly knowledgeable, but also genuinely warm and supportive. They create an environment where dancers feel encouraged, challenged, and valued. Being part of the competitive dance team has been especially meaningful. It's helped my daughter grow tremendously--not just as a dancer, but as a person. She's gained confidence, discipline, and lasting friendships. One of her absolute favorite experiences each year is performing in The Nutcracker. It's such a special opportunity, and SMDC makes it feel magical while still maintaining a nurturing, positive atmosphere. We're so grateful to be part of such a loving and dedicated dance community. I highly recommend SMDC to anyone looking for a studio that combines excellent training with heart.
