Need to rewrite I think my review because it got deleted?…read more I used to come here for tutoring for AP bio like 6-7 (unironically) years ago so take my review with a grain of salt. I loved this one male tutor, I think his name was David, so much because he never showed that he judged me and broke down concepts super simply and always encouraged me. This is how all tutors should be. But there was this one woman who went to Harvard or something who brought my mom and I into the office and basically told me it was too late for me and went on and on for a good 30 minutes-an hour about how I'd "never get into a good school" even though I had a 4.0 and I was on a good path, had clinical hours as a 13 year old, and was doing really well. She kept flexing that she went to Harvard and she could tell who would succeed or not, basically saying I'm going to fail at life because she could tell I wasn't going to make it. Ok good for you???? And surprise, she was wrong. I got into the top schools in California and am about to graduate with honors. I wasn't sure if writing a review after this long was fair, since I'm not sure if she still works there, but I still carry that negative memory with me to this day and even included this experience in my college essays. Hope she's not working there anymore and putting students down like that... Hopefully this was just a one-off experience but I'm not confident that it was, since she was way too comfortable rambling on like that. I would give one star because of her but that one tutor saved the rating a little bit.

David and his team works incredibly hard to ensure they understand what their students need in order to achieve success in their academic careers. This was all gathered from my first impression with Ms. Chan when the child of my close friend had their first visit. It wasn't until the follow-up visits that I saw the consistency in her care that I decided to write this review, cos when it comes to wellness you do not want to recommend the wrong people to others. A great plus is that the grandparent was able to come along for the next visit and understood what was going on with their grandchild cos Ms. Chan aside from English also speaks Cantonese, Mandarin and surprisingly Chiu Chow too! Aside from mental health, during my waits I noticed Ms. Chan also provides services for education as well, from advocacy to assessments. The visits so far have been great, my friend's child is in a comfort zone with Ms. Chan and is helping my friend better understand her child's case on hand. However it's not just toddlers or teens only, I've seen families and couples visit too!

At first, I was hesitant of the idea as it's often uncomfortable to tell a stranger your personal thoughts and feelings about your life, but all the uncertainty disappeared after my initial telehealth session with Dr. Chan. Dr. Chan was not only caring and knowledgeable, but she gave very thoughtful feedback and suggestions on how to implement little practices into my daily routines and tasks that were triggering my anxiety. With a very relaxed demeanor, our sessions felt more like a friend just being there for me through these hard times. The conversations just flowed naturally, and Dr. Chan remembered every little detail I mentioned as if she had known me a long time. With just a few sessions, I feel a lot more calm with her advice. I'm viewing the obstacles that life throws at us as opportunities to grow instead of fearing them. The idea of therapy sessions initially seemed scary, but I highly recommend anyone that had similar hesitations to meet with Dr. Chan, as I had a very uplifting and positive experience.

She helped us get in to several of the best and top rated private schools in the state of Hawaii. She then prepared us to be academically ready for the private school curriculum, and even now, we are doing remote tutoring 3X a week and my son is really excelling. He received high honors (3.74 GPA) on his first report card in middle school n before that was just a B level student. This school pushes challenging academics and they really make their students earn their grades. We would never have been prepared for this type of curriculum had we not been constantly receiving enrichment from Elevate. I've told Serena that I was willing to pay full price even though we are totally remote and still it is so worth it. She's accommodating and extremely organized with scheduling while working so hard to advocate for both of my kids. Don't get me wrong, we have found a handful of really excellent tutors to work with us in person while we are in Hawaii. However none of them offer the services that Serena does, STEM classes, coding classes, book clubs, contests, pre-k tutoring, and she even worked to throw a private party for my son.... as that is what he wanted. We are never leaving as long as my kids are enrolled in school.
