Five Pound Apparel is my favorite locally owned retail store in Springfield. This location, in…read moredowntown Springfield is well stocked with apparel, shoes, and gift items. It's a fun place to shop - you'll find items you can't get anywhere else in the SGF area - and the staff is super helpful. The Missouri is Awesome apparel line is very fun - they make great husband and boyfriend gifts, and my "Eat MO Veggies" t-shirt is so soft and comfy. Maybe you have to be FROM Missouri to really appreciate some of them, but they make fun souvenirs for you out of towners who have a sense of humor. This line is how the store originated. The sale of each item creates a donation of 5 pounds of food to a food bank. Many of the other items Five Pound Apparel sells also have a social good component, like TOMS shoes and sunglasses, Crochet Kids, and FEED Bags. There are many more - the store's tag line is that everything they sell helps someone, somewhere. I really love that. Some of my favorite purchases from Five Pound are eco-friendly clothes that are comfortable, fashionable, and decently priced. If you like to shop local, want to show off your Missouri pride, or like it when your purchases create good in the world, then you'll want to get yourself to this fun little shop on the main drag downtown (or, you can check out their other location at Farmer's Park on the south side of town).

I hijacked a few coworkers en route to a work event while we were in town and dragged them here, promising a fun store with funny t-shirts. As I was scouting the scene, there was a rack of sale items out front with an open door. I glanced at the sale items and thought "hmm", and kept right on going. Inside the floors were smooth, items were well lit enough but not especially bright. Music was playing and conversations could be had without yelling, quite a plus. The staff greeted us and went back to their tasks. Now here is where shopping got enjoyable! Clothing was arranged in color mated sections. Think a tad like geranimals for you of a certain age! I was looking for a flowy, embroidered shirt. I found an absolutely gorgeous dress, exactly in this style, that could have been worn with leggings and boots. I search a bit more and found yet another shirt that was what I wanted. The more I looked, the more I found. I bought a round of purchases and have been fighting my entire trip not to go back in and buy more. They do not stock large numbers of the same item. Pretty much, one of each size, and then you are out of luck! **Accessibility Thoughts** The floors are smooth, dressing rooms have curtains and the door is fairly easy to open. Some clothes are hung up higher to reach, clerks may be needed to help with those.
